ATP World Tour Finals live!

  • N DJOKOVIC* 6-2 3-0 T BERDYCH
Even by his standards, Djokovic produces an extraordinary backhand winner, and Berdych then makes a couple of forehand errors to find himself in deep trouble on serve yet again. He skews a backhand wide to be broken to 15 and there may not be much left in this one.[break]
    11/14/2014 3:02:16 PM
  • N DJOKOVIC 6-2 4-0 T BERDYCH*
Great length from Djokovic, who has probably not hit a short ball since dinosaurs roamed the earth, and he eventually draws the error, before wrapping up the game when Berdych fails to control a forehand return.
    11/14/2014 3:06:27 PM
  • N DJOKOVIC* 6-2 4-1 T BERDYCH
Berdych hands his head in misery as a backhand flies just long but he gets it back to deuce when Djokovic nets a forehand. The crowd are stunned by the error! Berdych is in no mood for a bagel and gets on the board for the set when Djokovic nets a return.
    11/14/2014 3:12:40 PM
  • N DJOKOVIC 6-2 5-1 T BERDYCH*
Berdych goes wide with a backhand as Djokovic attempts to close on victory and the Serb can afford to look on as a Berdych forehand flies long to make it 40-15, before wrapping up the game in no time. We have been going for over an hour at least!
    11/14/2014 3:16:48 PM
  • N DJOKOVIC* 6-2 5-2 T BERDYCH
Brilliant backhand winner down the line from Djokovic but he then goes long, and Berdych does well to close out the game, tracking down a drop shot and putting it away for a winner. Djokovic will now serve for the match, however.
    11/14/2014 3:20:33 PM
  • N DJOKOVIC* 6-2 5-2 T BERDYCH
A couple of good old-fashioned forehands into the corner put Djokovic 30-0 up, and he then finds an amazing angle. Berdych can only net and it is three match points ..
    11/14/2014 3:22:40 PM
  • He's done it, Djokovic will be the year-end World No 1![game-set-match]
    11/14/2014 3:23:22 PM
  • N DJOKOVIC 6-2 6-2 T BERDYCH
The match ended in emblematic fashion, Djokovic pounding a forehand into the corner, which Berdych could only shovel into the tramlines, and this week of incredibly one-sided matches continues with a 69-minute affair.

Djokovic will finish the year as World No 1 and who could dispute his status after another amazing performance? Even when not hitting winners, his length was immaculate, and it is hard to know how you could even approach playing him. However, like many of this week's heavy losers, Berdych contributed to the emphatic nature of his loss with a string of unforced errors, possibly striving too hard for winners.

  • TROPHY TIME!
Annabel Croft is on court with a large trophy and Novak is hanging about! Was that the final? No, the great man is going to be presented with the cup which comes with securing the year-end No 1 ranking.

  • WITH A LITTLE BIT OF THIS AND A LITTLE BIT OF STAT ...
Djokovic had 18 winners and just 8 unforced errors in another outstanding performance, and he has lost nine games in three matches so far. That is ridiculous! Berdych finished with 8 winners and 19 unforced errors. Djokovic led 4-2 on the ace count and had one double-fault, while Berdych had a pair.

  • [betting]WORLD TOUR FINALS OUTRIGHT
Djokovic unsurprisingly remains the clear favourite for the ATP World Tour Finals title, while Wawrinka, who just needs to win a set tonight to qualify, is hefty price along with Nishikori.
    11/14/2014 3:36:57 PM
  • BERDYCH ON TODAY'S MATCH:
He deserved to win, there is no question about it. He has been fighting to be number one this week and it is extremely tough to play him. The season was solid for me, another year in the top eight, but the last week of the season was terrible! I take every year as a new challenge and I will try to push myself as close as possible to my limits next year.

    11/14/2014 3:51:17 PM
  • BERDYCH ON THE COURT HERE AT THE O2:
I found the court very hard, very challenging. It does not allow you any mistakes. I think it is very slow. For us who try to hit the serve and play aggressive, it is difficult.

    11/14/2014 3:53:04 PM
  • QUALIFICATION SCENARIOS:
So, Mr Djokovic has topped the group and will play Kei Nishikori in the semi-finals tomorrow. Who will play Roger Federer? If Stan Wawrinka beats Marin Cilic tonight or at least wins a set, it will be him.

If he loses in two, he might still qualify, but it will come down to % of games won, I am going out on a limb (!) and saying Stan will be pretty unhappy if he fails to qualify from this position!

  • DJOKOVIC ON BEING THE YEAR-END NO 1:
There is a great deal of happiness, to finish the season as number one. It is one of the ultimate challenges in the sport and I owe gratitude to my team. Tennis has got very competitive over the last 5-10 years. To have a shot to be number one, you have to be healthy and successful throughout the year. I know how difficult it is, that is why I am so proud of it.

    11/14/2014 6:03:49 PM
  • DJOKOVIC ON HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH COACH BORIS BECKER:
There have been up and down moments, as in every coach-player relationship. It took us three to four months to understand each other and how we work. It started working from Rome, that was where we really clicked. His ability to cope with pressure and overcome challenges in big matches is something he developed, so he understands exactly what I go through mentally. I feel this is his biggest contribution.

    11/14/2014 6:06:32 PM
  • DJOKOVIC ON SEMI-FINAL AGAINST NISHIKORI:
It has been the best season of his life, he has been playing some great tennis and is one of the quickest players around. I expect a tougher match than in Paris (where Djokovic won 6-2 6-3). Conditions indoor and outdoor are different, he beat me outdoor at the US Open. I am feeling confident, so is he, and it should be high class tennis.

  • DOUBLES UPDATE:
Tonight's doubles match is up and running, and the winners will claim a semi-final spot. Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan have hit back after being broken early by Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares and it is now 2-2.

Stan Wawrinka v Marin Cilic to come, Wawrinka needs to win just three games to follow Djokovic into the semi-finals from Group A! Stay with us for full coverage!

  • RESTAURANT REVIEW
Before cracking on with the 'more important' stuff, I know you are all desperate to hear the final results of this week's restaurant challenge, as your faithful correspondent traverses the O2 putting fast food outlets to the test. Base Pizzeria led the way going into Friday but the cleverly named 'Salt + Vinegar' Fish and Chip joint has just been given the opportunity to storm up the rails and grab the glory!

And ........ it has fallen just short! Despite perfectly excellent food, the £10 'meal deal' comprised just a half-pint with the tucker, whereas some of the other gaffes are a little more liberal. 8.5/10 for 'Salt + Vinegar' which is good for joint-third place in the standings. Base Pizzeria is the Novak Djokovic of the fast-food eateries here!

As for the rumours flying around claiming I ditched my usual Sprite and forked out an extra £2,50, just so I could have a refreshing pint of lager, all I can say is, do not believe a word of it, unless you see photographic evidence.
    11/14/2014 6:28:58 PM
  • An honourable joint-third plaice finish for the fish and chips!

  • Friday night doubles at the O2!

  • BRYAN BROTHERS ON TOP
There were a couple of costly double-faults in that tie-break from the Peya/Soares tandem and the Bryans take it 7-3. Win the next set and they are though to the semis!
    11/14/2014 6:51:18 PM
  • WAWRINKA-CILIC HEAD2HEAD:
Stan Wawrinka and Marin Cilic have met nine times on the ATP Tour and Wawrinka has a 7-2 advantage, although Cilic had a significant win in the third round of the Australian Open in 2010, coming through 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-3. He also beat Wawrinka in the Chennai final that year (pictured).

The duo did not meet in 2012 or 2013, but they have played twice in 2014. Wawrinka was dominant on the clay of Monte Carlo, in a tournament he went  on to win, triumphing 6-0 6-2 and he came from a set down in Cincinnati to win the last two sets in similarly dominant fashion (3-6 6-0 6-1).

    11/14/2014 7:01:05 PM
  • DOUBLES UPDATE:
The second set is going with serve at the moment and the top-seeded Bryan brothers have just held to lead 5-4. Messrs Peya and Soares will have to serve to stay in the match!
    11/14/2014 7:18:14 PM
  • Both duos hold serve again and it is 6-5 to Bryan and Bryan. Another tie-break could be on the cards!
    11/14/2014 7:24:43 PM
  • [tie-break]Peya and Soares hold, so we will indeed have another tie-break.
    11/14/2014 7:28:22 PM
  • Very good play from the Bryans in this tie-break so far and they have four match points at 6-2 ...

  • BRYAN BROTHERS WIN!
It was a competitive match but the top seeds really turned it on in the tie-breaks! So, Bob and Mike Bryan have beaten Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-2) and they are safely through to the semi-finals, where they will face Benneteau and Roger-Vasselin.[game-set-match]

  • WAWRINKA v CILIC
It is time to turn our full attention to the final singles group match, which pits together two guys who will remember 2014 very fondly, having both won maiden Grand Slam singles crowns.

Stan Wawrinka memorably triumphed in the Australian Open at the start of the year, beating Rafael Nadal in the final, and Marin Cilic went on an incredible run at the US Open, beating Roger Federer in the semis and Kei Nishikori in the final.

Wawrinka thrashed Tomas Berdych 6-1 6-1 in his opener this week and, despite then losing 3-6 0-6 to Novak Djokovic, he needs just three games tonight to reach the semis here for the second year in a row. Cilic has suffered heavy defeats to Berdych and Djokovic, but he would love to end his first Tour Finals appearance with at least a win to his name. Let's get it on!

  • S WAWRINKA 1-0 M CILIC*
And ... we are off! Cilic goes wide early on and then can only watch as Wawrinka hits a beautiful crosscourt winner. Wawrinka nets a backhand but Cilic then goes long after Wawrinka executes a tricky overhead backhand adroitly. He is up and running ... and has one of the three games he needs to reach the semis!
    11/14/2014 8:17:35 PM
  • S WAWRINKA* 1-1 M CILIC
Cilic starts well on serve, moving 30-0 up when a Wawrinka backhand flies wide. The big Croatian then hits a booming forehand for a winner two points later. Wawrinka challenges but the ball had just clipped the line! A Cilic smash then levels proceedings.

    11/14/2014 8:21:05 PM
  • S WAWRINKA 2-1 M CILIC*
Cilic tries to pass but the angle is tough and his shot goes wide. Serve-volley from Wawrinka on the next point and it pays off, as a lob of sorts from Cilic also drifts out. The Swiss third seed then clinches the game with a corking forehand winner which landed right on the line. Pick that one out!
    11/14/2014 8:23:52 PM
  • Here comes Stan ...

    11/14/2014 8:25:15 PM
  • S WAWRINKA* 3-1 M CILIC
Cilic approaches the net rather tentatively and you can see why, as Wawrinka crashes a backhand pass away for a winner. Good defence from Wawrinka on the next point and he then produces another big forehand to set up three break points. Cilic saves the first but he is just wide with a stretching backhand volley on the next point. Wawrinka has broken ... and he will be in the semi-finals tomorrow against his compatriot Roger Federer![break]
