  • IT'S ALL OVER!
Benneteau and Roger-Vasselin hit form in a big way in that match tie-break and they win it 10-4! The French pair have now won one, lost one here this year. Experienced duo Nestor and Zimonjic have won this end-of-season event twice before but are facing elimination this year after losing their first two matches.[game-set-match]

  • HEAD2HEAD:
It is time to turn our attention to this afternoon's main event, the Group B match between Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori, who both began their campaigns with victories on Sunday. The pair have met four times before on the ATP Tour and are locked together at two wins each.

This year, they clashed in the quarter-finals in Miami and Nishikori triumphed 3-6 7-5 6-4, before Federer got his revenge in the Halle semi-finals, winning 6-3 7-6.

  • TALE OF THE TAPE:
The one and only Roger Federer is taking part in the ATP World Tour Finals for the 13th year in a row. Amazing! He has won this event six times (in three different venues) and comes here looking for a sixth title of a highly successful 2014 season. The second seed beat Milos Raonic 6-1 7-6 (7-0!) on Sunday night to get off to a good start.

Kei Nishikori is at this event for the first time but quickly became accustomed to the environment, defeating Andy Murray 6-4 6-4 on Sunday. The fourth seed from Japan has enjoyed a breakthrough 2014 season, reaching the US Open final and winning four titles.

Both of these players are great to watch so we could be in for a treat today!

  • FEDERER v NISHIKORI
What a reception! Both players are warmly greeted by a packed house here but Mr Federer gets a particularly loud roar! The place is buzzing, I have got my lap-top working, let's do this thing!
    11/11/2014 2:07:18 PM
  • R FEDERER 1-0 K NISHIKORI*
Federer serves first and is awry with a pair of early backhands. Two big first serves make it 40-30 and Nishikori then puts a forehand return long off the second serve to cede the first game.
    11/11/2014 2:15:42 PM
  • R FEDERER* 1-1 K NISHIKORI
Nishikori hits a nice winner but then double-faults and it is 30-15. But Federer then nets and Nishikori slams a classic serve down the middle to open his account.
    11/11/2014 2:18:40 PM
  • R FEDERER 2-1 K NISHIKORI*
Federer glides into the net to start this game and pulls out a great stop-volley. He then puts a volley wide though and it is break point! Federer serves an ace to save it and follows up with another down the middle but then goes long with a backhand. Nishikori earns another break point but goes long with a forehand, and Federer wins a good rally when Nishikori misses with a backhand, to survive the threat to his serve.
    11/11/2014 2:26:27 PM
  • R FEDERER V K NISHIKORI
Ah, Mr Federer. We have been expecting you!

    11/11/2014 2:28:35 PM
  • R FEDERER* 3-1 K NISHIKORI
Nishikori comes into the net at 30-30 but Federer conjures up a stunning forehand pass into the corner and then sends another awesome forehand past his flailing opponent to break serve. This lad can play a bit![break]
    11/11/2014 2:31:12 PM
  • R FEDERER 4-1 K NISHIKORI*
A pair of great lobs from Nishikori in that game but he fails to capitalise on one, slamming a smash into the net. A return goes wide a couple of points later and Federer is sitting pretty in this set at 4-1.
    11/11/2014 2:34:01 PM
  • R FEDERER v K NISHIKORI
    Nishikori enters the arena.

    11/11/2014 2:35:30 PM
  • R FEDERER* 4-2 K NISHIKORI
Nishikori does not help his cause with a third double-fault of the match but then plays a nice drop shot and ends up getting the better of an entertaining exchange. He follows up by saving a break point with a sweet backhand volley into the corner and takes the game when Federer slices a tricky low shot into the net. Well held Sir!
    11/11/2014 2:40:40 PM
  • R FEDERER 5-2 K NISHIKORI*
A third ace of the day from Federer and he then puts a forehand volley into the open court, winning the game to love in the process. The Federer serve looked very solid there!
    11/11/2014 2:42:49 PM
  • R FEDERER* 5-3 K NISHIKORI
Good hold to 15 from Nishikori, who is no slouch at the net himself and scored with another volley there. Federer serving for the set now though.
    11/11/2014 2:46:23 PM
  • R FEDERER 6-3 K NISHIKORI*
Federer tosses an uncharacteristic double-fault into the mix but then slams a trademark forehand into the corner and it is 30-30 when Nishikori cannot retrieve it. Nishikori nets off a good second serve and Federer then hits a forehand winner to clinch the set. Businesslike, I would call that opening salvo from the Swiss superstar![set]
    11/11/2014 2:49:34 PM
  • R FEDERER 6-3 K NISHIKORI
All good so far for Federer here this afternoon and Nishikori is receiving a bit of treatment on his right wrist. Looks like it is getting taped up.

  • 11/11/2014 2:53:32 PM
  • R FEDERER* 6-3 0-1 K NISHIKORI
Nishikori did not seem too troubled by his wrist in that game, winning it to love and capping things off with a dazzling backhand winner.
    11/11/2014 2:55:04 PM
  • R FEDERER 6-3 1-1 K NISHIKORI*
An ace and a big forehand come to the party in that game for Federer and he holds easily when a Nishikori backhand can't quite topple over the net.

    11/11/2014 2:57:15 PM
  • R FEDERER* 6-3 2-1 K NISHIKORI
Federer earns a pair of break points with a masterful sequence of shots but squanders the first with a wayward backhand. Nishikori then puts a forehand long though and he is in big trouble, a set and a break down.[break]
    11/11/2014 3:00:04 PM
  • R FEDERER 6-3 3-1 K NISHIKORI*
Nishikori wastes a pair of opportunities there, putting one half-court shot into the net and another long. Federer does not look a gift horse in the mouth and hits a forehand winner to wrap the game up.
    11/11/2014 3:03:42 PM
  • R FEDERER* 6-3 3-2 K NISHIKORI
Federer tries the old chip-and-charge routine but may not bother again, as Nishikori passes with a backhand. Two more solid rallies follow from the young fourth seed and he secures an important hold of serve. Can he make inroads into Federer's delivery now?
    11/11/2014 3:07:08 PM
  • R FEDERER 6-3 4-2 K NISHIKORI*
Federer opens his latest service game with an ace and then proceeds to use his forehand to dictate affairs. Nishikori's favourite lob enters the equation to make it 40-30 but he then puts a forehand long and Federer holds once again.

    11/11/2014 3:11:30 PM
  • R FEDERER* 6-3 5-2 K NISHIKORI
Federer brilliantly turns defence into attack and wins one of the points of the match when Nishikori nets. Nishikori responds with a corking backhand winner but then nets a pair of backhands to set up break point. Federer goes long and Nishikori then serves his first ace of the day to save another break point. However, he errs with the backhand again and then serves a double-fault. Federer to serve for the match and I am afraid it has been a case of too many unforced errors from Nishikori today ... so far![break]
    11/11/2014 3:18:05 PM
  • R FEDERER* 6-3 5-2 K NISHIKORI
Federer long with a backhand and Nishikori has a point to get one of the breaks back ... but Federer saves the day with a big serve which is returned into the net. A backhand winner then sets up match point ...

    11/11/2014 3:21:50 PM
  • R FEDERER 6-3 6-2 K NISHIKORI
A big second serve from Federer and he has wrapped up a comfortable victory![game-set-match]

    11/11/2014 3:22:54 PM
  • R FEDERER 6-3 6-2 K NISHIKORI
Just 69 minutes after starting, Roger Federer has made it two wins from two this week! Both players produced some great shots but Nishikori was far more inconsistent and could not re-produce the form he showed when he beat Andy Murray the other day. Federer is looking very good ahead of his clash with Murray in a couple of days.

  • STAT'S ENTERTAINMENT!
Nishikori with 30 unforced errors out there today, which I am sure he will say is too many for just two sets of tennis. Federer had 18 in comparison and hit 17 winners to 15 from Nishikori. Federer won the aces battle 7-1 and served a single double fault to five from Nishikori. Lies, damned lies and statistics they say but I think those figures do a good job of telling the story in this case!

  • PRESSURE ON ANDY
Andy Murray is taking on Milos Raonic later today and Federer's win just now makes things simple tonight as far as the maths goes for Murray fans. If he loses, he can't make the semis.

'How have you worked that out?', I hear non maths experts cry. Well, Federer has two wins already. If Murray is beaten by Raonic, the Brit cannot get to two wins himself. Raonic and Nishikori would have a victory each and would still have to play each other, so one of them would be sure to reach two wins. Simple! Now, if you want the theory of relativity explained, you will have to come and see me at the O2!
