  • It's all over, Berdych triumphs![game-set-match]
    11/12/2014 3:28:59 PM
  • T BERDYCH 6-3 6-1 M CILIC
A backhand goes into the net and that signals the end of Cilic's resistance. Amazing - seven matches so far here in singles and all of them have been won in straight sets. Most of them quite convincingly as well. Praise be to doubles, I say!

Berdych was far more solid this afternoon and has a chance of reaching the semis, having won one, lost one now. Cilic looks ready for a week off after his fine season. He has played two, lost two, with six games won and 24 lost. Barring miracles, just one more match to go Marin!

  • STAT'S THE WAY TO DO IT!
As is often the case, the stats tell the story of that one-sided affair. Mr Berdych had 16 winners and 17 unforced errors, which is not brilliant but basically just about acceptable, unless your name happens to be Novak Djokovic. Cilic had 11 winners and 30 unforced errors, which is not going to get it done against many pros, let alone a top-10 guy! Berdych was 5-3 up in aces as well.

  • BERD COMES UP BIG

    11/12/2014 3:55:09 PM
  • BERDYCH ON BOUNCING BACK FROM OPENING LOSS:
I felt much better on the court but still it was not one of my best. That is the beauty of this event, you can get swept out and then come back two days later. There were no miracles in between the matches, I had a good practice and stayed confident.

    11/12/2014 4:18:06 PM
  • BERDYCH ON POSSIBLY SWITCHING THE VENUE:
It is an incredible event here, with a great atmosphere. That's why we play, it is the best feeling to have a crowd like that. But then, why not give the opportunity to a different part of the world? It's hard to choose (between the options) and it is definitely not my job!

    11/12/2014 4:20:19 PM
  • BERDYCH ON FACING DJOKOVIC NEXT:
There is a chance there (to qualify) but my final match is against pretty much the toughest opponent I could get. It's always a huge challenge to play the World number one and, the way he is playing, it is pretty much all set up for him. But it might be my last match of the year, or maybe not, and I will try to give all that is left in me.

  • [betting]TONIGHT'S ODDS
Djokovic is the big odds-on favourite ahead tonight's main event.

  • TODAY'S WINNERS SO FAR ...
Bob and Mike Bryan came back from a set down to win a lively doubles match against Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau, before Tomas Bercych lost just four games in a straight sets win over Marin Cilic.

  • The hard working hacks in the media centre are cranking out their Berdych-Cilic reports!

    11/12/2014 4:55:34 PM
  • CILIC ON A SECOND DISAPPOINTING LOSS:
It is disappointing to play this way and I did not expect it. My body feels a little bit tired on the court. I was looking forward to playing here and it is tough to handle. I haven't played to a good level and my body is not in the best possible shape.

    11/12/2014 5:05:17 PM
  • CILIC ON HIS FINAL MATCH AGAINST WAWRINKA:
Hopefully, I can play at a better level. Stan might need to win and there might be more pressure on him. I deserve to be here and I will try to enjoy it. Conditions are a little heavy and hard, and I feel I am not getting the best out of my game, but winning the US Open makes this a great year.

    11/12/2014 5:08:08 PM
  • TONIGHT'S LINE-UP:
Just off for a break gang but keep it here because tonight should be a corker. Monday's successful doubles teams square off first, as third seeds Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares face Lukasz Kubot and Robert Lindstedt, who are seeded eighth.

We then have a clash between defending champ and top seed Novak Djokovic and the Australian Open winner Stan Wawrinka. Those two have had some great matches in the past, so that is one not to be missed!

  • RESTAURANT REVIEW
Last night's spicy beanburger and stringy fries feast was always going to be tough to top ... but I think I have managed it. Willing to go to almost any lengths for a gourmet feast, I almost made it to the end of the concourse this time before deciding to chance my arm with Base Pizzeria. What a shrewd decision!

I ordered up a vegetarian supreme and took up the 'meal deal' offer. Problem - the meal deal is for two half-pints but I fancied a cold pint of lager, I mean, er Sprite. The staff got round that by pouring two half-pints into one whole and all was well. Top marks for resourcefulness! Excellent service and a tasty meal earns a mark of 9.5/10. We have a new leader in the race to be restaurant of the week![recommend]

  • DOUBLES UPDATE
Tonight's action here at the O2 is very much underway and, before messrs Djokovic and Wawrinka clash later on, we have a tasty aperitif in the form of a doubles clash between this year's Queen's Club title winners Alexander Peya (Austria) and Bruno Soares (Brazil) and the Aussie Open champs Lukasz Kubot (Poland) and Robert Lindstedt (Sweden).

Both pairs are going for their second win of the week and Kubot/Lindstedt lead 3-2 with a break in the early going.

  • DJOKOVIC V WAWRINKA HEAD2HEAD
Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka have played 18 times on the ATP Tour since they first met in the final in Umag in 2006 (Wawrinka won when Djokovic retired during a first set tie-break). Djokovic leads the series 15-3 but the duo have had some truly epic encounters on the biggest stages of all in recent times.

In last year's Aussie Open, Djokovic won an epic last-16 match 1-6 7-5 6-4 6-7 12-10 and then he won a classic US Open semi later that year, prevailing 2-6 7-6 3-6 6-3 6-4.

However, Wawrinka got his revenge in this year's Australian Open quarter-finals, winning 2-6 6-4 6-2 3-6 9-7 and going to claim a maiden Grand Slam title. They clearly get on as they played doubles together this year in Toronto. Let's hope for another classic tonight!

  • DOUBLES UPDATE
They have already beaten the Bryan brothers and now Kubot/Lindstedt are on course for another success. They have taken the first set 6-4.[set]

  • MATCH TIE-BREAK TIME!
Soares and Peya were great on serve in that set and they win it 6-3. We are all set for our second match tie-break of the day, as the teams vie to reach 10 points first.[tie-break]

  • BERDYCH-CILIC HIGHLIGHTS

    11/12/2014 7:28:51 PM
  • Kubot/Lindstedt are quickly out of the blocks in the match tie-break and they lead 5-1 already.
    11/12/2014 7:31:48 PM
  • Peya and Soares fighting hard but a double-fault hands Kubot/Lindstedt match point at 9-6.
    11/12/2014 7:37:35 PM
  • Kubot/Lindstedt prevail![game-set-match]
    11/12/2014 7:38:40 PM
  • WHAT A CELEBRATION!
Nice high-kicking celebration from Kubot as he celebrates a second win from as many matches this week. A pair of net cords on the final point and it is Kubot and Lindstedt who get the better of it, to seal a 6-4 3-6 10-6 win.

They are definitely through to the semis while Peya and Soares will face the Bryan brothers on Friday in an all-or-nothing clash with a semi-final place at stake.

  • DJOKOVIC-WAWRINKA TALE OF THE TAPE:
As well as the being the World No 1 and winner of seven Grand Slam titles, Novak Djokovic is also compiling an incredible indoor record. He easily beat Marin Cilic in his opener here to make it 28 indoor victories in a row and he is looking for his third straight title at the Tour Finals. He is appearing at this tournament for the eighth year in a row and was last defeated here in his final match of the 2011 Group stage (Janko Tipsarevic beat him, trivia buffs!).

Stan Wawrinka is competing at this event for the second time and reached the semis last year, only to lose to (who else?) Djokovic. He has enjoyed a superb 2014, winning the Australian Open, his first Major, and adding a first ATP 1000 Masters title on the famous clay of Monte Carlo. He looks up for it this week and brushed aside Tomas Berdych 6-1 6-1 in his O2 opener.

  • [betting]EASY RIDE FOR DJOKOVIC?
Novak Djokovic is just minutes away from taking to the court at the ATP tonight, can he beat Wawrinka in straight sets? We make him odds on to do so!

  • N DJOKOVIC v S WAWRINKA
Here they come! Stan out first, looking pretty relaxed. Novak follows, and looks very focused, although he does give the packed house a wave.

Apropos nothing, I just walked past some South African rugby players soaking up another big occasion before they face England at Twickenham on Saturday. As an ardent England rugby fan I thought about giving them some stick but ... there were three of them and also ... they were rather big.
    11/12/2014 8:06:23 PM
  • N DJOKOVIC v S WAWRINKA
Djokovic to get us underway. We are under starter's orders ... and they are off!
    11/12/2014 8:14:25 PM

  • 11/12/2014 8:14:34 PM
  • N DJOKOVIC* 0-0 S WAWRINKA
Djokovioc starts with a forehand winner but then he is a little casual with another forehand and Wawrinka makes a good pass. Backhand long from Djokovic and Wawrinka has an early break point! He wastes it with a wayward backhand and Djokovic then has to save another after stopping to make a mistaken challenge. He gets to game point but Wawrinka pulls off an amazing cross court pass. Deuce now.
    11/12/2014 8:20:49 PM
  • N DJOKOVIC 0-1 S WAWRINKA*
Wawrinka breaks! He gets a third break point when Djokovic makes another unforced error and the top seed then pulls a backhand wide. Unusually shaky start from the Serb![break]
    11/12/2014 8:22:05 PM
  • N DJOKOVIC* 0-2 S WAWRINKA
30-30 and Djokovic up to seven unforced errors already but he then gets a break point when Wawrinka errs with a backhand. Good first serve from the Swiss player though and the return drifts wide. Wawrinka then wraps up the game by ripping a forehand pass under the racket of a despairing Djokovic. The underdog will be very happy with this start!
    11/12/2014 8:28:09 PM
  • N DJOKOVIC 1-2 S WAWRINKA*
Djokovic is keen to restore order and he holds to love in convincing fashion to open his account for the evening. Battle has been joined!
    11/12/2014 8:30:09 PM
  • N DJOKOVIC* 2-2 S WAWRINKA
Wawrinka challenges when a forehand is called out ... but out it is and it is 0-30. He follows that with a double-fault and then completely mishits a backhand to be broken to love. Handing Djokovic breaks on a silver platter is not really the optimum strategy!
    11/12/2014 8:34:43 PM
  • N DJOKOVIC 3-2 S WAWRINKA*
Djokovic suddenly in complete charge and he makes it 11 points in a row before planting a forehand into the net. It is still 40-15 though and he takes the game when Stan floats a forehand return long.
    11/12/2014 8:36:35 PM
  • Novak Djokovic has recovered after a slow start against Stan Wawrinka.

    11/12/2014 8:38:34 PM
  • N DJOKOVIC* 4-2 S WAWRINKA
A Wawrinka backhand crashes against the top of the net and he is in trouble at 0-30, which he compounds with another huge double-fault. Djokovic then conjures up a genius drop shot out of nowhere and he has a second break to love in as many games![break]
