  • AP McCoy

A first winner for AP McCoy this week but the 17-time
champion jockey could only think of friend and colleague JT McNamara who is in hospital
    after his bad fall yesterday.

Its always nice to have a winner at Cheltenham – the day is marred with sadness with JT and what he’s going through and his family going through.Even now we feel guilty to be here it just feels like we should be doing something for him and we wish we could. He’s Such a good horse, great attitude all year round, it’s a pleasure to ride, but very hard to be happy today with what happened yesterday to JT McNamara. I’m glad this won for the boss as he’s pretty upset about JT and it just shows you have to enjoy these moments when you can.

    3/15/2013 2:54:11 PM

At Fishers Cross owner JP McManus was emotional after the win – again due to his jockey JT McNamara being in hospital having neck surgery after his bad fall.

He’s Such a good horse, great attitude all year round, it’s a pleasure to ride, but very hard to be happy today with what happened yesterday to JT McNamara. I’m glad this won for the boss as he’s pretty upset about JT and it just shows you have to enjoy these moments when you can.

Jockey Sam Waley Cohen on Long Run.
He’s got a great chance, should run well, he's well in himself and no reason to think that he won't go well again today. You never know up this hill until you get past the winning post in terms of tactics there are younger horses who have more turn of foot, we have to go out and try and win that and to do that we have to be big and bold.

    3/15/2013 3:11:57 PM

Reacts to winning the Gold Cup.
This is a brilliant, he is a gorgeous horse and he has a great attitude. He never travelled, he struggled on that ground, but he kept fighting. I knew three out I had five or six lengths to find, but I thought I had a good chance. He's as game as a lion and he loves the job.

Henderson, celebrating his 50th Festival winner, said: "It's all a bit of a blur. You have to gather your thoughts. We've been at it a good few years."Both horses were fantastic and everybody has done a hell of a job. Bobs Worth hasn't run since the Hennessy and Long Run hasn't run since the King George, so it was all down to what we did at home and we did it as a team. I have to thank them all.
