  • Over 26 - India 63/5 (Dhoni 25, Jadeja 0)
    Jordan starts after lunch.
He starts well, too. It's a maiden to India's skipper, with the ball shaping away towards the well-packed slip region. Anderson is going to bowl at the other end - Cook not keen to have his two less-experienced seamers working away at the same time.
    8/7/2014 1:16:09 PM
  • Some brilliant return drawings from the England players. Jos Buttler's of Nass coming up. All being auctioned off for Cricket United
  • WICKET! Jadeja lbw Anderson 0 [wicket]

Anderson v Jadeja and it's a knockout for the bowler.
It's full, straight and swinging in, meaning the left-hander can't afford to miss it. He does, and therefore HAS to go lbw without troubling the scorers.
    8/7/2014 1:18:48 PM
  • Over 27 - India 66/6 (Dhoni 25, Ashwin 3)
Ravi Ashwin has been picked mainly for his bowling.
He has a Test average with the bat of nearly 40, yes, but he now needs to help try and drag India up towards three figures and beyond. Probably not quite what he expected this morning when his skipper won the toss. Anyways, he's off the mark with a firm push through point for two, then keeps the strike with a single nudged down to the man at backward square leg.
    8/7/2014 1:22:20 PM
  • Over 28 - India 75/6 (Dhoni 33, Ashwin 4)
After Ashwin gets a single to deep square leg, Dhoni decides to be aggressive at Jordan, by advancing down the wicket.
He commits early but nearly over-shoots a full delivery, eventually squeezing his bat down on it to deflect the ball wide of gully for four. The final delivery also goes in the same region, except that time it was cut high over the heads off the fielders off the back foot. Dhoni positive - he's got little other option with his team in such a mess.
    8/7/2014 1:27:23 PM
  • Over 29 - India 80/6 (Dhoni 33, Ashwin 9)
Runs for Ashwin, four of them in fact.
He is walking across his stumps and while that tactic has risks, it also allows him to flick anything remotely around leg stump away. Anderson strays in line and is duly punished.

  • sense of 'Ja-dejavu'- Funniest comment I've ever heard from Nass :D @SkyCricket @NasserHussain13 @BeefyBotham @MrAndrewStrauss
  • Over 30 - India 81/6 (Dhoni 33, Ashwin 10)
Just a single from the over, Ashwin getting it from the first ball when he drives Jordan towards point.
Looked to be going for more than just one until Moeen Ali dived across to halt the ball's progress.
    8/7/2014 1:36:35 PM
  • Anderson sees off Jadeja after lunch

    8/7/2014 1:37:51 PM
  • FINAL WORD [michaelholding]
"Brilliant bowling from James Anderson to Jadeja. He's let his bowling do the talking today."
    8/7/2014 1:39:11 PM
  • Over 31 - India 88/6 (Dhoni 33, Ashwin 16)
SIX! Anderson tests Ashwin with a pinpoint bouncer aimed right at the noggin, and the batsman duly obliges in having a pop at it.
The result is a top edge that goes all the way over the rope. Time for a change in the attack now - Broad returning to replace Jordan.
    8/7/2014 1:41:17 PM
  • Over 32 - India 89/6 (Dhoni 33, Ashwin 17)
Overs following a similar pattern since Ashwin's arrival - he seems to get the runs on offer, then watches from the other end as Dhoni happily leaves as much alone as possible.
Broad ends his first over back with a really, really poor short ball that only bothers Buttler behind the stumps. England have been a little too quick to drop the bouncer in during the afternoon session so far.
    8/7/2014 1:45:31 PM
  • Over 33 - India 93/6 (Dhoni 33, Ashwin 21)
Ashwin gets extremely fortunate when an outside edge off Anderson's bowling loops over the head of the fielder at third slip and away for four runs.
This partnership now worth 38 from a mere 39 deliveries, though Ashwin tries his best to see the end of it when he has a horrible waft at the final delivery of the over.
    8/7/2014 1:49:22 PM
  • Over 34 - India 101/6 (Dhoni 38, Ashwin 24)
Dhoni awakes from his post-lunch slumber, going after a bumper from Broad and managing to dissect the two men out in the deep waiting for an error.
Ashwin takes India's total into the three figures with a flick through mid-wicket for a leisurely three. India's skipper has to leave the pitch at the end of the over, rushing up the stairs and into the changing room. Won't do much to help England's over-rate, perhaps he's just trying to get Cook banned now.
    8/7/2014 1:54:26 PM
[nasserhussain] "Don't be fooled, the boy Ashwin can bat."
    8/7/2014 1:56:05 PM
  • Over 35 - India 108/6 (Dhoni 43, Ashwin 26) [dropped-catch]
Stroke of fortune for Dhoni, that stroke being a lazy back-foot prod that sends the ball disappearing in the only gap in the slip region.
A rather average over ends with a DROP! Ashwin tries to work a straight ball through mid-wicket and provides an edge behind, but Buttler is late to move and can't cling on with one hand. It's been a tough old day for the wicket-keeper so far. Change at the other end - Chris Woakes back on after a six-over spell this morning.
    8/7/2014 2:00:54 PM
  • Over 36 - India 117/6 (Dhoni 49, Ashwin 29)
The half-century stand for the seventh wicket comes up when Dhoni uses his tremendous hand-eye coordination to smack Woakes down the ground for four.
Ashwin had picked up three runs at the start of the over, his drive going squarer as Broad did a tin man impression at extra cover, diving down in instalments to leave Jordan with a long jog out towards the boundary.
    8/7/2014 2:05:12 PM
  • JOS STARTING OUT [michaelholding]
"If anything Jos Buttler started his career too well. I prefer starting badly and just getting better!"
    8/7/2014 2:06:16 PM
  • Over 37 - India 118/6 (Dhoni 49, Ashwin 30)
Broad switches ends, taking over from Anderson.
Ashwin gets a single off the first ball when working towards square leg, then Dhoni leaves the majority of the rest well alone. That run also makes this stand the highest of the innings so far, beating the 54 between Dhoni and Rahane before lunch.
    8/7/2014 2:09:54 PM
  • Over 38 - India 121/6 (Dhoni 49, Ashwin 32)
Aswhin pushes Woakes down the park (not literally, we've had enough issues with pushing during this series thank you very much) for a comfortable couple of runs.
Poor Buttler is worked hard behind the stumps again by a delivery that starts down leg and keeps on going further away. He gets a glove on it, but India take a bye to fine leg. Time for DRINKS after an hour of the afternoon session in Manchester
    8/7/2014 2:14:49 PM
  • Over 39 - India 121/6 (Dhoni 49, Ashwin 33)
Ashwin gets a single off a thick inside edge, before Dhoni goes hunting for a quick single to bring up his half-century. Can't find it, playing and missing as the last ball of Broad's over arcs past the outside edge.
    8/7/2014 2:21:30 PM
  • Over 40 - India 129/6 (Dhoni 49, Ashwin 40)
Significant recovery this from India now, Ashwin moving into the 40s with a four and a three through the offside as Woakes offers width. Batting looking ever easier with two set batsmen against the older ball.
    8/7/2014 2:26:20 PM
  • Ashwin c Robson b Broad 40

[wicket]Ashwin departs for a quickfire 40, taking on the short ball from Broad and skying a catch to Robson at deep square-leg.
    8/7/2014 2:27:57 PM
  • Over 41 - India 129/7 (Dhoni 49, Kumar 0)
Kumar's been a stubborn obstacle for England to remove in this series, so the work's not done for England yet. Solidly in behind the last three balls of Broad's successful over.
    8/7/2014 2:31:11 PM
  • SUPER STU [davidgower]
"Broad's figures today are outstanding - 11 overs three for 19 with five maidens. He and Anderson are doing the bulk of the damage yet again."
    8/7/2014 2:31:52 PM
  • 50 for Dhoni! The India captain has held firm in difficult circumstances. 133-7 #EngvInd
  • Over 42 - India 137/7 (Dhoni 57, Kumar 0)
Fifty for Dhoni, brought up in fine style with a crunching drive between mid-off and extra cover. Adds four more in rather less convincing style as a thick outside edge races past a diving Root at gully.
    8/7/2014 2:35:33 PM
  • Kumar b Broad 0

[wicket]Broad now has 4/19 after Kumar leaves one that comes back and flicks the off bail. Superb delivery.
    8/7/2014 2:37:11 PM
  • England dominating in the Manchester sunshine

    8/7/2014 2:39:16 PM
  • Over 43 - India 137/8 (Dhoni 57, Aaron 0)
Varun Aaron, the Dr Seuss fast bowler, is the new batsman. Survives a classic lbw appeal from Broad, with the bowler once again genuinely mystified to see the umpire correctly apply the lbw law and not send the batsman on his way.
    8/7/2014 2:41:52 PM
  • Over 44 - India 137/8 (Dhoni 57, Aaron 0)
Dhoni decides, reasonably enough, that he'll have to play some shots here. Goes after two short balls from Jordan, but makes no contact with either.
    8/7/2014 2:46:25 PM
  • DHONI PRAISE [shanewarne]
"MS Dhoni has shown a lot of courage today and found his own way of playing."
    8/7/2014 2:51:05 PM
  • Over 45 - India 143/8 (Dhoni 62, Aaron 1)
Aaron gets a thick inside edge into the legside for a single and has thus outperformed five of the nine men above him in the batting order. Dhoni has two balls to make use of, and he makes very good use of them indeed. The first is flayed over point for four, the second helped to long-leg for a single to keep the strike.
    8/7/2014 2:51:17 PM
  • Over 46 - India 152/8 (Dhoni 71, Aaron 1)
Dhoni going for it now. Carves one just over the slips before whipping one wristily through midwicket with real class. Both go for four. Short ball thuds painfully into Dhoni's forearm as he goes for the hook, but he repeats the shot to the last ball of the over and collects a single to again retain the strike.
    8/7/2014 2:57:43 PM
  • Dhoni c Jordan b Broad 71

[five-wicket-innings]Five for Broad as Dhoni swipes across the line and picks out the one man in the deep on the legside. Jordan takes the catch safely, and we've now got some proper fun with a couple of real-life tailenders. Rare beasts these days.

    8/7/2014 3:01:38 PM
  • Pankaj Singh b Broad 0

[wicket]Six ducks in the innings. Extraordinary. Pankaj has two swipes, making some contact with the first but not the second. Broad ends with six to his name.
    8/7/2014 3:02:01 PM
  • STAT ATTACK [stats]
    - That is Broad's 12th five-wicket haul in Test cricket
    - India have equalled the record (6) amount of ducks in a Test innings
    8/7/2014 3:02:12 PM
  • .@StuartBroad8 leads England from the field with figures of 6-25. Over to the batters... #EngvInd

  • No need for Cook to call on Moeen Ali - the seamers did the job and did it quickly. #EngvInd
