England v India, Second Test

Live from Lord's

  • Over 30 - India 84-1 (Vijay 21, Pujara 25)
Vijay takes a straight ball from Anderson behind square on the leg side for a single. Would have been lbw if he'd missed it. There was also a single into the leg side for Pujara earlier in the over.
    7/19/2014 2:40:44 PM
  • Half chance for England & Ali as he gets one to pitch straight to Vijay but the umpire gets the LBW shout correct.

  • Over 31 - India 84-1 (Vijay 21, Pujara 25)
Umpire Oxenford turns down an lbw appeal after Vijay is hit on the thigh pad playing forward to a delivery from Moeen that didn't turn. Straight enough but too high. Maiden. Time for tea.
    7/19/2014 2:42:58 PM
  • TEA: Steady session that one. India defending dourly. England lacking that bit of bowling brilliance.

  • [tea]India have made a steady start to their second innings, losing Dhawan on the way to tea at 84-1, a lead of 60. Stokes made the breakthrough to get rid of Dhawan via a fine catch at backward point from Root but Vijay (21no) and Pujara (25no) haven't looked in much trouble during a 44-run stand through to tea.

  • Ben Stokes' recent batting record for England makes interesting reading.

  • Over 32 - India 86-1 (Vijay 22, Pujara 26)
Stokes starts proceedings after tea and gets a delivery to rise off a length and catch Pujara on the glove. Ouch! Stokes just too straight in his first over back and concedes singles to both batsmen on the on-side
    7/19/2014 3:10:29 PM
  • Over 33 - India 86-1 (Vijay 22, Pujara 26)
Anderson continues to toil away and his 10th over of the innings is a maiden to Vijay. England need their strike bowler to pull something out of the fire here on a pitch getting flatter by the second
    7/19/2014 3:14:00 PM
  • Over 34 - India 88-1 (Vijay 23, Pujara 27)
See Over 32. Stokes a touch too straight, leg-side singles for both batsmen
    7/19/2014 3:16:40 PM
  • Plenty of people content to prolong tea out on the Nursery Ground as England strive to make a breakthrough.

    7/19/2014 3:20:49 PM
  • Over 35 - India 88-1 (Vijay 23, Pujara 27)
See Over 33. An Anderson maiden to Vijay, who looks like he's in for the long haul
    7/19/2014 3:22:41 PM
  • India's run-rate has slowed but has not yet dipped beneath that of England's first innings.

    7/19/2014 3:26:32 PM
  • Over 36 - India 91-1 (Vijay 24, Pujara 29)
The 50 partnership comes up off 131 balls when Pujara diverts Stokes to fine-leg for a single. There is a hint of uneven bounce at the start of the over and Pujara does well to keep out a delivery that skids low, Maybe the pitch isn't getting flatter...
    7/19/2014 3:26:34 PM
[betting]India have come in to 6/4 favourites, with England out to 5/2, while a draw is still possible at 13/8. Keep up to date with all Sky Bet-s in-play odds here.
    7/19/2014 3:28:01 PM
  • Over 37 - India 92-1 (Vijay 24, Pujara 30)
Anderson has given up on attacking the stumps and opts for a defensive line well outside off stump. Pujara replies with a single, steered through backward point. He looks in pain, though, clearly struggling from the whack on the hand he received from Stokes a couple of overs ago
    7/19/2014 3:30:14 PM
  • Over 38 - India 98-1 (Vijay 25, Pujara 35)
After some magic spray Pujara is fit to renew his battle with Stokes. Vijay almost drags the young all-rounder back onto his stumps and Pujara then flashes and edges just wide of gully. Close, but four more to the total
    7/19/2014 3:36:52 PM
  • Over 39 - India 99-1 (Vijay 26, Pujara 35)
England are working hard on the ball and hoping for some reverse swing. Anderson continues to hide the ball and almost outfoxes Pujara with an inswinger that whistles past off stump. England pressing, India holding firm
    7/19/2014 3:39:24 PM
  • Over 40 - India 107-1 (Vijay 34, Pujara 35)
A couple of Vijay boundaries off Stokes, who is ticking at the end of the over. The first is driven uppishly through cover, the next dabbed past gully. Too much width from Stokes but classy batting from Vijay. The lead is 83
    7/19/2014 3:44:07 PM
  • Over 41 - India 111-1 (Vijay 34, Pujara 39)
Pujara takes the partnership up to 40 with a poke past gully for four. It was just short of Ballance, who put in an athletic dive to no avail. Cook may want to think about a Third Man, it's becoming a productive area for these two wristy Indians
    7/19/2014 3:48:03 PM
  • Vijay and Pujara continue to accumulate steadily. India 111-1.

  • Over 42 - India 113-1 (Vijay 36, Pujara 39)
Plunkett replaces Stokes and Vijay works his first ball back through midwicket for two, the only runs from a decent over from the Yorkshire seamer. If you missed his knock earlier, he made a very useful 55 not out, a Test best, before Anderson prevented him from kicking on further by getting himself out reverse-sweeping...
    7/19/2014 3:51:58 PM
  • Big inside edge - and height - means Broad's frustrated lbw shout against Pujara (43no) rightfully goes unrewarded.

  • Over 43 - India 117-1 (Vijay 36, Pujara 43)
Broad is back. The pitch is starting to misbehave and a short ball jags in sharply to Pujara, who gets some glove on it down the leg-side but it's wide of Prior and races for four. Broad then runs off celebrating rather than appealing, but apart from the fact Pujara hit it and it was going over the top, it was a good shout... India lead by 93
    7/19/2014 3:57:38 PM
  • Pujara (43) pushes at one and snicks Plunkett behind. 118-2

  • WICKET! Plunkett is on a hat-trick! Pujara & Kohli gone in two balls!

  • Kohli bld Plunkett 0 [wicket]

Golden duck! Terrible misjudgment from Kohli, who leaves his first ball, which nips back and clatters into off stump. Two in two from Plunkett!
    7/19/2014 4:02:39 PM
  • One brings two! Kohli bowled first ball by Plunkett. Hat-trick ball to Rahane well wide. India 118-3. #EngvInd

  • Over 44 - India 118-3 (Vijay 37, Rahane 0)
A potentially game-changing over from Plunkett there and all of a sudden Rahane has to scamper for his box and gloves and join Vijay in the middle. He leaves hat-trick ball well alone. India 94 ahead but now three down
    7/19/2014 4:05:31 PM
  • Over 45 - India 118-3 (Vijay 37, Rahane 0)
Broad requires some boot repairs five (dot) balls into his latest over so drinks are taken with one delivery left. Cricket, continually making the rules up as it goes along... After a lengthy delay, Broad completes a maiden
    7/19/2014 4:11:02 PM
  • Over 46 - India 123-3 (Vijay 37, Rahane 5)
Rahane, fresh from 103 in the first innings, gets off the mark with a boundary when Plunkett is punished for a short, wide delivery, which is steered to the third man boundary. Nice shot, poor ball. India lead by 99
    7/19/2014 4:18:53 PM
  • Plunkett celebrates the wicket of Kohli

    7/19/2014 4:20:00 PM
  • Rahane ct Prior bld Broad 5 [wicket]

India are four down! Broad bangs it in, Rahane attempts to fend it off but the ball loops up and Prior runs round and takes a fine tumbling catch. Replays show it's another poor decision from umpire Oxenford, it clearly came off Rahane's arm guard, well away from the glove

    7/19/2014 4:22:23 PM
  • WICKET: Rahane fails to deal with a short Broad delivery and Prior takes a flying catch. Batsman not happy though.

  • [davidgower] It went a long way in the air and Prior did well to get there but it was the arm-guard. This has been a very good passage of play for England in the field. It was a really good bouncer from Plunkett, coming down the hill slightly at an awkward height.

    7/19/2014 4:23:33 PM

    7/19/2014 4:25:03 PM
  • Off the glove? Not a chance. Umpires have had another shocker. Rahane gone for 5. India 127/4.

  • Over 47 - India 127-4 (Vijay 37, Dhoni 0)
Really good over from Broad, plenty of fire and fury and a wicket, albeit a fortunate one. Dhoni is the new man in the middle and his side are wobbling a little here. Three wickets in four overs and his side now lead by 103 with six wickets remaining. Match in the balance...
    7/19/2014 4:27:19 PM
  • Over 48 - India 127-4 (Vijay 37, Dhoni 0)
Plunkett keeps the pressure on with a maiden at Vijay, who remains solid in defence
    7/19/2014 4:29:00 PM
  • Over 49 - India 132-4 (Vijay 37, Dhoni 4)
Dhoni, anticipating a short ball from Broad, is in position and deftly uppercuts it over the slips for four to get off the mark. Superb shot. Ouch! Broad comes back with another short ball which nips back in and hits Dhoni on the bicep. He doesn't flinch! A hostile spell from Broad here
    7/19/2014 4:34:25 PM
  • Over 50 - India 132-4 (Vijay 37, Dhoni 4)
This is looking like a key partnership with India 110 ahead. Plunkett is bowling with nice rhythm here and just two byes are added from his latest over. Still plenty of uneven bounce on show and England won't want to chase much more than 200
    7/19/2014 4:38:35 PM
  • Over 51 - India 140-4 (Vijay 42, Dhoni 5)
Broad has his dander up here and is charging in at in this crucial passage of play. This is usually the kind of game-situation he thrives upon. Edge! A heart-in-the-mouth moment for Vijay, who edges high and wide of the slips with a loose drive. A roar of anguish from Broad and Vijay walks away to have a word with himself...
    7/19/2014 4:43:16 PM
  • India on the back-foot now. Plunkett troubling MS Dhoni. This LBW shout was just going over. India 140/4.

  • Over 52 - India 140-4 (Vijay 42, Dhoni 5)
Dhoni survives two huge lbw appeals from England when padding up to Plunkett. The first is too high, the second just hasn't come back enough. The India captain is playing a dangerous game. Plunkett posing plenty of problems. Maiden
