England v India, Second Test

Live from Lord's

  • Over 80 - India 225-6 (Vijay 91, Jadeja 13) - Lead of 201
India's lead moves past 200 with eight more runs taken off Plunkett. A Vijay leading edge almost results in a return catch but in the end brings him three down to long-on and Jadeja then drives on the up through extra cover for four. Anderson, who gave chase in vain, now has his hands on the new ball...

  • [benedictbermange] Only three sides have successfully chased more than 200 to win a Test Match at Lord’s. They are: WI 344-1 v Eng, 1984; Eng 282-3 v NZ, 2004; Eng 218-3 v NZ, 1965

    7/20/2014 11:20:29 AM
  • Over 81 - India 228-6 (Vijay 92, Jadeja 15) - Lead of 204
Anderson to Jadeja... Plenty of spice in this battle. Jadeja, remarkably, charges his first ball against the new ball and whips two through square-leg. Extraordinary shot. He's shown plenty of attacking intent since coming to the crease and we could be in for an entertaining passage of play here
    7/20/2014 11:25:26 AM
  • Over 82 - India 235-6 (Vijay 95, Jadeja 19) - Lead of 211
I wonder if Cook was tempted to hand Plunkett the new ball alongside Anderson. Broad has been off the boil in this match and starts poorly again here. A floaty half-volley is driven for three by Vijay and Jadeja then flicks a leg-side delivery fine to the fence
    7/20/2014 11:31:05 AM
  • WICKET! The face says it all. Vijay departs for 95, Anderson with the wicket. The Lord's crowd acknowledge his effort

  • Vijay ct Prior bld Anderson 95 [wicket]

Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy! Anderson produces a pearler to dismiss Vijay for 95. A vital breakthrough. Shaping away, taking the edge, Prior doing the rest
    7/20/2014 11:33:14 AM
  • Gower and Strauss commentate on Vijay's dismissal.

    7/20/2014 11:36:08 AM
  • [andrewstrauss] Poor old Vijay. Maybe he wanted to feel bat on ball so close to a hundred. You could see what the wicket meant to Anderson and you can see what it meant to Vijay.

    7/20/2014 11:37:31 AM
  • Over 83 - India 235-7 (Jadeja 19, Kumar 0) - Lead of 211
It was going to take something special to remove Vijay and Anderson was once again the man to produce the goods. Kumar now in and almost out, Anderson beating him with another dangerous away swinger
    7/20/2014 11:37:47 AM
  • Over 84 - India 240-7 (Jadeja 23, Kumar 1) - Lead of 216
Jadeja is receiving plenty of chirp and has to pull away midway through Broad's over to compose himself. Broad attacking the stumps but Jadeja and Kumar rotate the strike with singles. Five off the over
    7/20/2014 11:43:37 AM
  • Over 85 - India 246-7 (Jadeja 28, Kumar 2) - Lead of 222
Jadeja on the charge! He skips down, gives himself room and drives Anderson through the covers for four. Purposeful batting from the left-hander. Appeal! An inside edge saves Jadeja. Anderson thinks he has his man with an inswinger but umpire Oxenford spots an inside edge that saves Jadeja, who was plumb that aside
    7/20/2014 11:48:14 AM
  • Anderson roars in celebration after removing Vijay

    7/20/2014 11:48:51 AM
  • Over 86 - India 256-7 (Jadeja 36, Kumar 3) - Lead of 232 [dropped-catch]
Drop! Root puts Kumar down at fourth slip. It came to him quickly and burst his hands. Broad can't believe it. Salt is poured into the wound when Jadeja returns on strike and lofts Broad for a classy one-bounce four. He's not done there, rocking back and pulling for another boundary later in the over. Terrific counter-attack from Jadeja
    7/20/2014 11:53:41 AM
  • Over 87 - India 266-7 (Jadeja 36, Kumar 13) - Lead of 242
Another expensive over as India continue their counter-attack against the new ball. Kumar drives Anderson off the backfoot for four and then works an inswinger through midwicket for the same amount. 10 precious runs for Kumar and India. Tense at Lord's with one over to go before lunch...
    7/20/2014 11:59:59 AM
  • Over 88 - India 267-7 (Jadeja 37, Kumar 13) - Lead of 243
No final over drama as Jadeja pulls for a single, the final run of an enthralling session
    7/20/2014 12:03:31 PM
  • LUNCH [lunch]
Well, we are still none the wiser as to who is going to win this tense Test match. Three morning wickets for England but India's lead is up to 243 thanks to Vijay's 95 and a counter-attacking effort from Jadeja (37*). Time to catch our breaths and get refreshed for the afternoon session. Don't go anywhere!

    7/20/2014 12:42:24 PM
  • Over 89 - India 270-7 (Jadeja 38, Kumar 15) - Lead of 246
A fired-up Anderson continues to steam in but Jadeja fights fire with fire, charging down the pitch and pulling high for a single. Kumar then inside edges for two, brushing past Anderson in the process and the pair exchange words. Jimmy comes back with a bouncer, Kumar saw it coming and weaves under it. Fiery stuff out in the middle...
    7/20/2014 12:47:50 PM
  • Over 90 - India 279-7 (Jadeja 47, Kumar 15) - Lead of 255
Jadeja moves to a career-best score after helping himself to nine runs off Plunkett. Two well-ran twos put the fielders under pressure and Jadeja then lofts Plunkett over extra cover for four. England being ran ragged at the moment as India's lead climbs over 250
    7/20/2014 12:51:55 PM
  • Over 91 - India 283-7 (Jadeja 49, Kumar 17) - Lead of 259
India are playing dab and run at the moment! Four successive quick singles cause Anderson frustration but this is clever cricket from India. Jimmy ends the over with a sharp bouncer to Jadeja, which creeps through his defences and clatters the helmet!

  • Over 92 - India 289-7 (Jadeja 50, Kumar 21) - Lead of 265 [50]
50 for Jadeja! And quite a celebration too! Swirling his bat like a lassoo. He's enjoying himself out there. Kumar is, too, and he plays a dreamy backfoot drive off Plunkett through the covers for four more. He's some No 9!
    7/20/2014 1:03:49 PM
  • Whirly good!

    7/20/2014 1:04:52 PM
  • Jadeja in one-day mode right now. He has raced onto 59 off 46 balls. India 302-7 lead by 278. #EngvInd

  • Over 93 - India 302-7 (Jadeja 59, Kumar 25) - Lead of 278
India are on the charge! Jadeja plants his front foot forward and slams Anderson back down the ground for four and then cuts a short, wide delivery to the fence. England losing the plot here... Kumar then gets in on the act last ball, diverting another wide delivery over the slip cordon. The India fans are loving this! Cook and co not so...
    7/20/2014 1:08:56 PM
  • Over 94 - India 307-7 (Jadeja 60, Kumar 29) - Lead of 283
It's been all India since lunch. Kumar, after back-to-back 50s in Nottingham, is in the form of his life and drives Plunkett for another eye-catching four to take the lead up to 283. England need to break this partnership with the prospect of a world record run-chase looming large
    7/20/2014 1:16:15 PM
  • India lead by 284 - this is how tough England's task is already and they need three more wickets first! #EngvInd

  • Over 95 - India 316-7 (Jadeja 63, Kumar 35) - Lead of 292
India have now scored 49 runs in seven overs since lunch and this is quickly turning into a match-winning partnership. Broad is back but he can't stem the flow of runs, nine more added here, including another Kumar boundary, whipped through wide mid-on. England look to be a man down, too, with Stokes only bowling two overs today due to injury
    7/20/2014 1:23:58 PM
  • Over 96 - India 320-7 (Jadeja 66, Kumar 36) - Lead of 296
Jadeja keeps the scoreboard whizzing over with a drive off Plunkett back over the bowler's head. He doesn't time it at all well but still picks up three. Kumar then collects a single as India close in on a 300-run lead
    7/20/2014 1:27:41 PM
  • [andrewstrauss] Once again England are struggling to bowl out the tail – it happened against Sri Lanka and in the first Test at Trent Bridge. It does highlight the importance of a spin bowler, I think. It might be time for a change of pace.

    7/20/2014 1:27:54 PM
  • Over 97 - India 332-7 (Jadeja 66, Kumar 44) - Lead of 308
Kumar is not a No 9. Sorry, I'm just not buying it. He's raced to 44 with some fantastic shots to all parts of the ground. He adds two more boundaries off Broad, one a streaky edge, the second steered expertly past the slips. Add four byes into the mix and you will see that he and Jadeja have put India in a fantastic position here
    7/20/2014 1:32:57 PM
  • The Rockstar "Jadeja" is taking the game away from England. Mind you England's tactics of bowling short again are ridiculous & mind boggling
  • Mr Harry high pants is not happy with England either !!!!!

  • Over 98 - India 333-7 (Jadeja 67, Kumar 44) - Lead of 309 [dropped-catch]
Drop! It's not raining, it's pouring for England now at Lord's. Jadeja clips Stokes, back into the attack, to Bell close in at square-leg but he can't hang on to a low chance. Difficult, but the kind of moments which can change the course of a match
    7/20/2014 1:36:06 PM
  • [andrewstrauss] It was hit ferociously hard. It just sums up England at the moment – they need something to happen but it just isn’t happening for them.

    7/20/2014 1:36:32 PM
  • Over 99 - India 333-7 (Jadeja 68, Kumar 44) - Lead of 310
Cook calls Moeen back into the attack and he concedes a single to Jadeja
    7/20/2014 1:38:34 PM
  • Jadeja ct Cook bld Stokes 68 [wicket]

Jadeja tries one shot too many, advancing down the pitch to Stokes, who bangs it in short. Jadeja top-edges his pull and Cook runs back from slip to take another high catch over his shoulder
    7/20/2014 1:39:50 PM
  • .@HomeOfCricket stands to applaud Jadeja (68) off, after top-edging short Stokes ball high to Cook. India now 334-8.
