  • Sri Lanka arrivals for #engvsl - and one exit!

  • Happily the tourists are back up to full strength - a case of a forgotten bag it seems. Mahela Jayawardene just about snuck into the Vine video - or at least his headphones did! Looked very chilled!

  • Our favourite Warwickshire double-act - Nick Knight and Ian Bell are deep in conversation... Happily, Nick has returned Belly's bat after a touch of shadow batting.

  • Unhappily the first spots of rain have arrived... But it is not setting in yet... #engvsl
  • The remnants of last night's heavy showers. Players still netting as rain has stopped. #engvsl
  • The covers are on right now but simply as a precaution. Chris Jordan, having slipped precariously down the steps on his way to the nets, returns looking chipper.

  • [toss] TOSS
Sri Lanka have won the toss and will bowl first
    5/22/2014 11:33:50 AM
  • We think it's a good wicket but it's overcast and may do a bit for the seamers. We have got to do the basics right. It's good to have Sanga and Mahela back.
    Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews

We would have had a bowl as well. It's a good wicket but with heavy showers forecast it gives you an advantage knowing what you've got to do.
    England captain Alastair Cook
    5/22/2014 11:36:53 AM
Bopara suffered a dislocated finger in the warm up but is fit enough to take his place in England's starting XI. Ballance is preferred to Carberry and is expected to bat at No.3 and Gurney is selected ahead of Woakes. No place for Bresnan, who is available for Yorkshire in the T20 Blast tomorrow night
    5/22/2014 11:39:44 AM
  • Happily the Sky Sports umbrellas are safely stashed for now and we will start on time.

    5/22/2014 11:41:36 AM
Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene have retired from T20 cricket but are back for the 50-over showdowns. Kushal Perera misses out but his namesake Thisara takes his place in the lower order. England, don't drop him again!
    5/22/2014 11:42:49 AM
  • Graham Thorpe and Eoin Morgan have a pre-match chat...

  • Busy morning for Nasser, who earlier caught up with Mahela - who has had three weeks off since the World T20 and is raring to go.

[andrewstrauss] There are still places up for grabs and I think that’s what makes this summer so exciting. For a long time the England side almost picked itself but the next generation of England cricketers are kind of forcing their way through. So it’s going to be fascinating to see it all unfold over the summer.

    5/22/2014 11:52:18 AM
You may recall that these two met at this venue last year in the ICC Champions Trophy. Sri Lanka won that one by seven wickets thanks to a magnificent century from Kumar Sangakkara, and some late power hitting from Nuwan Kulasekara. Re-jig your memory here

  • [cloudy] WEATHER
The forecast is a little dodgy for this evening and heavy showers are expected to cause the odd interruption. With a bit of luck the dark clouds will swing by. As for now, it's cloudy but dry and we will start on time at 1pm

  • Michael Holding on comms. Now it's summer @SkyCricket
  • Over 1: England 6/0 (Cook 1, Bell 4)
Malinga, fresh from his T20 heroics the other night, opens the bowling for Sri Lanka. Cook and Bell are England's long-term first-choice opening pair, it seems. Bell finds the boundary first, pouncing on some width and cutting to the rope. Cook is also away, with a single. A wide adding a sixth run to the over. No swing
    5/22/2014 12:08:12 PM
  • Over 2: England 6/0 (Cook 1, Bell 4)
[drop] Drop! Cook is given an early life! Kulasekara lures the England captain into an uppish drive and Dilshan, diving to his right one-handed, puts down a very difficult chance. A brilliant effort, which ultimately saved four. An impressive maiden from Kulasekara, who is getting a bit of nip off the pitch
    5/22/2014 12:11:19 PM
  • Over 3: England 11/0 (Cook 5, Bell 5)
Cook makes the most of his early reprieve by glancing a full, leg-side delivery from Malinga to the fine-leg boundary. He waited so late for that and played it perfectly. Malinga posing few problems with the new ball on a true pitch
    5/22/2014 12:15:32 PM
  • Over 4: England 17/0 (Cook 6, Bell 10)
Shot of the morning so far comes from Bell, and it won't surprise you to hear that it was a dreamy extra cover drive. Cook had found the fielder with the same shot the ball before, but Bell pierced the ring perfectly next up to find the fence. An encouraging start from England and the sun has just made an appearance!
    5/22/2014 12:19:39 PM
  • Over 5: England 22/0 (Cook 11, Bell 10)
Malinga drags himself out of the attack after just two overs and Lakmal replaces him. Cook picks up two runs through midwicket and two more through point before surviving a loud lbw appeal. Going well over the top. England still ticking along nicely
