Welcome to sunny Lord’s where England can land a knockout blow on Sri Lanka by winning this fourth one-day international and taking an unassailable 3-1 lead in what is proving a topsy-turvy five-match series.

  • Alastair Cook’s side looked dazed in Durham as they were bowled out for 99 but rallied powerfully in Old Trafford and pummelled the tourists into submission, blitzing them with the ball for just 67. The umpires have yet to step in, though, so here we are ready for the next round.

  • Oblique references to tonight’s Sky Box Office showdown between Carl Froch and George Groves done, let’s start by assessing a rising England star currently packing a powerful punch; here’s what Sir Ian Botham and Nick Knight made of Chris Jordan’s 5-29 in the 3rd ODI – a display that earned him the man-of-the-match award.

  • [nasserhussain] If Sri Lanka’s batsmen can get a score on the board, then we are in for a good game. No surprises that England are bowling. They need to show the aggression and the catching that they showed up at Old Trafford.

    5/31/2014 9:33:22 AM
  • Over 1 - Sri Lanka 9/0 (Dilshan 1, Perera 8)
Anderson finds the outside edge straight away, but it's a thick one from Dilshan and runs safely down to third-man for a single. Perera survives a big lbw shout as the ball pitches comfortably outside leg and then whips the next delivery off his pads through square-leg for four. Successive boundaries for Perera as he drives the next one on the up through cover. Looks a cracking pitch.
    5/31/2014 9:33:40 AM
  • Over 2 - Sri Lanka 14/0 (Dilshan 2, Perera 10)
Dilshan steers Gurney down to third-man for a single before Perera gets a cut shot past point. Not perfectly timed, so Bell is able to reel it in and keep them down to two. Half an appeal for leg-before next ball, but it's sliding down leg and the batsmen trot through for a leg-bye. Dilshan adds a single on the legside as Sri Lanka make a bright start here.
    5/31/2014 9:38:07 AM
  • Over 3 - Sri Lanka 18/0 (Dilshan 5, Perera 12)
Dilshan sets off for a single that was never there but, having been sent back, is able to steal one after Bopara's throw from mid-wicket hits the stumps and ricochets out to point. Only three further singles ensue from a decent over from Anderson who keeps the batsmen honest.
    5/31/2014 9:44:41 AM
  • Over 4 - Sri Lanka 26/0 (Dilshan 6, Perera 19)
Stunning shot from Perera, pouncing on a Gurney delivery that's a fraction short and absolutely Jayasuriyaing it over the ropes at midwicket and into the Mound Stand.
    5/31/2014 9:46:21 AM
  • [ianbotham] That was a terrific shot from Perera – it wasn’t that short but it was short enough – and it was certainly hit well enough.”

    5/31/2014 9:46:31 AM
  • Over 5 - Sri Lanka 26/0 (Dilshan 6, Perera 19)
Maiden over for Anderson as Dilshan alternates between leathering the ball straight to fielders and trying unsuccessfully to play tip and run.
    5/31/2014 9:49:07 AM
  • WICKET! Perera c Jordan b Gurney 19

[wicket]Odd dismissal as Perera aims another big swipe at Gurney and somehow diverts the ball slowly to slip off the toe of the bat. Jordan dives to his left to take the catch.
    5/31/2014 9:50:59 AM
  • Over 6 - Sri Lanka 26/1 (Dilshan 6, Sangakkara 0)
After that flying start, Sri Lanka are 0/1 in the last two overs. Wicket-maiden for Gurney.
    5/31/2014 9:55:23 AM

  • [betting] SKY BET ODDS!

Solid start from Sri Lanka, but it is England who are favourites to make it 3-1 in the series. Don’t forget you can bet on England’s highest scoring
    batsman too.

    5/31/2014 9:55:26 AM
  • Over 7 - Sri Lanka 33/1 (Dilshan 13, Sangakkara 0)
Dilshan snaps a run of 14 balls without a run for Sri Lanka by pulling Anderson over square-leg for four. Clip off the pads brings two more. Dilshan's been looking for a tip-and-run single for a while now, and finally manages to get one by plonking the ball just far enough to Root's right.
    5/31/2014 9:58:32 AM
  • Chris Jordan can do no wrong at the minute for #England . Perera out for 19 off the bowling of Gurney. 33-1.

  • Over 8 - Sri Lanka 34/1 (Dilshan 13, Sangakkara 0)
Another excellent over from Gurney, who's outbowled Anderson with the new balls this morning. Just a leg-bye from it as Dilshan continues to struggle to get the ball away.
    5/31/2014 10:03:05 AM
  • Over 9 - Sri Lanka 44/1 (Dilshan 23, Sangakkara 0)
England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler has a curious habit of randomly sticking his arms out every time he doesn't have to actually catch the ball. Once you notice it, you can't see anything else. Even when Dilshan is Dilscooping successive boundaries and trying to do it a third time. Anderson responds with a short ball that loops off Dilshan's glove and over Buttler, who this time sticks his hands out for entirely sound reasons as he tries to reach the ball. Can't get near it, though. Fun over, that. Ten runs off it, but could easily have been a wicket or two as well.
    5/31/2014 10:07:06 AM
  • Dilshan at his extravagant best as he flicks Anderson twice with some Dilscooping action.

  • End of the powerplay and SL are on 45-1, with Dilshan 23no. Sangakkara yet to score. Live blog:… #engvsl
  • Over 10 - Sri Lanka 45/1 (Dilshan 23, Sangakkara 0)
Gurney misses out on a third straight maiden after bowling a bouncer that sails way, way over Sangakkara's head for a clear wide. Sangakkara's now faced 12 balls and is still yet to get off the mark.
    5/31/2014 10:10:56 AM
The treats just keep coming this summer... you simply won't want to miss our series on a true legend.
    5/31/2014 10:13:09 AM
  • Over 11 - Sri Lanka 50/1 (Dilshan 26, Sangakkara 2)
A cheeky, one might even say funky, over from Joe Root straight after the powerplay. Five singles from it, which you sense is a result both sides will be reasonably content with.
    5/31/2014 10:15:05 AM
  • Over 12 - Sri Lanka 54/1 (Dilshan 27, Sangakkara 3)
Slightly wild and woolly first over from Jordan, with a wide down the legside and a rank long-hop that Sangakkara misses out on as he cue-ends the ball to Bell at cover. Just four runs from the over in the end, which is a bit of a result for Jordan. Not his best.
    5/31/2014 10:20:29 AM
  • Over 13 - Sri Lanka 57/1 (Dilshan 29, Sangakkara 4)
England sneak in another cheap over of Root here, but there's a risk that they're just starting to sit back as they did to their cost in Durham.
