Live from Lord's

  • #England gifted a wicket. Dilshan plays all round Anderson for 71. Game on! http://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bo9lc5GCAAEX7TS.png

  • Highest 2nd wicket partnerships by SL in ODIs - 200 Dilshan & Sanga v Aus 2011/12, 184 same pair v SA Pallekele 2013/14, 172 today
  • Over 36 - Sri Lanka 199/2 (Sangakkara 96, Jayawardene 1)
Almost 200 runs on the board, and Mahela Jayawardene strides to the middle. Tough game.
    5/31/2014 11:58:30 AM
  • Over 37 - Sri Lanka 201/2 (Sangakkara 97, Jayawardene 2)
Powerplay going England's way at the moment. Just two singles from Jordan's over as Sri Lanka go past 200.
    5/31/2014 12:04:21 PM
  • But D thing is they never keep their promises..like it though..RT @hemantbuch : Next time I'm voting for the party promises a 3-day weekend”
  • Over 38 - Sri Lanka 202/2 (Sangakkara 98, Jayawardene 2)
Great over for England again. Sri Lanka not launching as they would have liked here. Jayawardene struggling to get Gurney away, and almost losing his wicket too as a thick outside edge is scooped up on the half-volley by Morgan, who immediately indicates that it's not carries. Gurney thought he had his man there.
    5/31/2014 12:08:25 PM
  • Stunning innings from Sangakkara. A well deserved 100 off 95 balls. Never looked in a moments trouble. http://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bo9oeLJCUAAWPWx.png

  • Awesome @KumarSanga2 Brilliant hundred..specially how he changed gears ...!!! Job not finished ...
  • Over 39 - Sri Lanka 212/2 (Sangakkara 102, Jayawardene 7)
[100]Sangakkara pulls Jordan through midwicket for two to bring up a quite brilliant hundred. It's come at better than a run a ball and the last 80 runs have looked utterly effortless. It's his first hundred at Lord's. Jayawardene has a swing and a miss at a length ball from Jordan. That's just the rehearsal. Same ball arrives later in the over and it's smacked over midwicket for four. A chip out to deep square-leg brings a single as Sri Lanka finally enjoy a decent over in the powerplay.
    5/31/2014 12:13:30 PM
  • WICKET! Jayawardene c Anderson b Gurney 7

[wicket]Messy little innings from Jayawardene ends tamely with a miscued drive that loops gently to Anderson at mid-off.

  • Strauss on Sangakkara's hundred...

    5/31/2014 12:18:26 PM
  • Over 40 - Sri Lanka 217/3 (Sangakkara 107, Mathews 0)
Almost a second wicket in the over for Gurney as Mathews hits the ball straight into the ground and watches as it bounces just over the stumps. Gurney's bowled superbly here. Great-looking figures in the context of the innings.
    5/31/2014 12:21:12 PM
  • 24/2 in BPP...lower than the innings RR... A time where SL could have batted Eng out of game.. 300 at least from here!!
  • Russel clearly feels Sri Lanka have lost their way and Strauss is growing in confidence that his WASP prediction that 260 is a par score might not be as far off as he feared an hour or so ago...
    5/31/2014 12:23:41 PM
  • Over 41 - Sri Lanka 221/3 (Sangakkara 109, Mathews 2)
England are holding on pretty well here. Last fill-in over from Root gives up just four singles.
    5/31/2014 12:23:54 PM
  • Strauss explains to a sceptical Beefy why he thought 260 would be a par score...

    5/31/2014 12:25:34 PM
  • Over 42 - Sri Lanka 233/3 (Sangakkara 112, Mathews 11)
Damage to Gurney's figures as he strangely decides to go round the wicket to Mathews and is immediately pumped through the offside for a pair of boundaries. A single to midwicket brings Sangakkara back on strike, and he picks up two more with a lofted check-drive over extra-cover. A wide yorker is steered towards point by Sangakkara, where a fine diving stop from Morgan saves three runs. No cover behind him there.
    5/31/2014 12:28:54 PM
  • WICKET! Sangakkara st Buttler b Tredwell 112

[wicket]Superb innings from Sangakkara comes to an undignified end as he runs past one from Tredwell and is stumped by miles. Fabulous innings from a batsman who had looked out of nick in the first three matches.
    5/31/2014 12:31:17 PM
  • Over 43 - Sri Lanka 234/4 (Mathews 11, Thirimanne 1)
Excellent final over from Tredwell, who's done a fine job for England here. Ends with figures of 10-0-39-1.
    5/31/2014 12:34:23 PM
  • It needed a little bit of magic to remove Sangakkara and Treadwell provided it. Stumped. Fantastic 112 knock. http://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bo9uhsyCAAAGFaM.png

  • Over 44 - Sri Lanka 240/4 (Mathews 13, Thirimanne 2)
Just three runs off the bat from Jordan's over. Alas, there are three big legside wides in there as well. Still okay for England, though. The Sri Lankan charge has yet to take off.

  • Could just be a few runs in this come the end of match. Fielding like this by Anderson may end up being crucial. http://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bo9v9u7CAAAOU7e.png

  • Over 45 - Sri Lanka 249/4 (Mathews 15, Thirimanne 8)
Anderson has absolutely tormented Thirimanne in this series, but this is a different situation and the left-hander lnands a blow of his own with a biff down the ground for four. Delay now as Anderson knocks the non-striker's bails off with his hand in the delivery stride. That's a no-ball, of course, due to one of the silliest law changes ever and doubly painful for Anderson because he's cut his finger in doing it. Singles are the order of the day for the rest of the over.
    5/31/2014 12:47:54 PM
  • Over 46 - Sri Lanka 260/4 (Mathews 18, Thirimanne 16)
Big over for Sri Lanka as Thirimanne clubs Jordan down the ground for four and then gets three more with a lofted drive over mid-on. Ten from it in total.
    5/31/2014 12:54:34 PM
  • WICKET! Thirimanne c Ballance b Anderson 16

[wicket]Thirimanne falls to Anderson once again. Bit different this time, though, as he helps him into the legside and is well caught down low by Ballance at short fine-leg. Third umpire takes a long look at the replays but decides the catch is clean.
    5/31/2014 12:58:10 PM
  • OUT! After much deliberation upstairs, the third umpire gives out this catch by Ballance. Sri Lanka 265-5. http://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bo90H75CQAIHbLt.png

  • Over 47 - Sri Lanka 266/5 (Mathews 19, Priyanjan 5)
Good scampering from new batsman Priyanjan brings him a couple of twos before a hook out to deep square-leg earns a single. Good yorker to end the over, but Mathews digs it out for a single.
    5/31/2014 1:00:48 PM
  • Over 48 - Sri Lanka 279/5 (Mathews 30, Priyanjan 6)
Late damage for Gurney's figures here as a short ball is pulled for four by Mathews before a low full-toss is flicked over short fine-leg for another boundary. Thirty runs off the last three overs as Sri Lanka belatedly get the run-rate climbing.
    5/31/2014 1:06:51 PM
  • WICKET! Mathews c Anderson b Jordan 30

[wicket]Mathews' cameo is over as he aims a legside swipe at Jordan but only manages to top edge the ball to Anderson at mid-on. Simple catch, even with that sore finger.
    5/31/2014 1:08:29 PM
  • WICKET! Kulasekara b Jordan 0

[wicket]Superb from Jordan, spearing a yorker under Kulasekara's bat and into the base of leg stump.
    5/31/2014 1:11:53 PM
  • Bails are a flying. Jordan delivers the perfect Yorker to dismiss Kulasekara for a duck. 281/7. http://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bo93RO2CMAAHf4T.png

  • Over 49 - Sri Lanka 288/7 (Priyanjan 7, Senanayake 7)
Senanayake has a look at a bouncer that sails over his head for a wide and then bops the next ball down the ground for a huge six into the members' benches in front of the pavilion.
    5/31/2014 1:15:33 PM
  • WICKET! Priyanjan c Morgan b Gurney 9

[wicket]Another wicket falls as Priyanjan slices a low full toss to point, where Morgan settles underneath it and takes a comfortable catch.
    5/31/2014 1:19:30 PM
  • WICKET! Senanayake c Cook b Gurney 12

[wicket]Short and sweet from Senanayake, who adds a pulled four to that earlier six but the skews another low full toss to Cook at mid-off.
    5/31/2014 1:21:14 PM
  • Over 50 - Sri Lanka 300/9 (Mendis 4, Malinga 0)
Mendis squirts the last ball of the innings down to the third-man boundary as Sri Lanka end on a round 300. Gurney's last three overs cost 36 after the first seven went for just 19.
