    6/15/2014 12:39:47 PM
  • Over 10 - England 27/0 (Robson 10, Cook 15)
Three overs, three maidens for Eranga now after six dot balls to Cook straight after lunch. A hint of uneven bounce during that over. England will be hoping to see more of that as the game goes on
    6/15/2014 12:45:09 PM
  • Over 11 - England 36/0 (Robson 11, Cook 23)
With 60+ overs still left in the day England will be looking to bat at close to four an over = lead of around 400 before declaring. An ideal scenario would see them having half an hour to bowl at Sri Lanka tonight. Edge! Cook edges Kulasekara but it is wide of the diving Prasanna Jayawardene and short of Sangakkara at first slip. Prasanna reacted late and the ball trickles for four. Shot! Nothing unconvincing about Cook's next boundary, he rocks back and pulls powerfully through midwicket to the rope. Sign of aggression from the England captain after his close shave
    6/15/2014 12:50:49 PM
  • [andrewstrauss] The ‘keeper should have got that chance, I think, it almost looked like he pulled out of it at the last moment.”

    6/15/2014 12:51:15 PM
  • Over 12 - England 44/0 (Robson 13, Cook 28)
Another productive over for England. Eight runs taken off Eranga when Cook clips him through square-leg for four with a beautifully timed stroke. A wide follows before both England batsmen exchange singles
    6/15/2014 12:54:44 PM
  • Cautious start from Robson, who certainly has a favourite area he likes to score in. England 44-0 #SkyCricket #EngvSL

  • Over 13 - England 46/0 (Robson 15, Cook 28)
Kulasekara continues to probe outside Robson's off stump but the debutant is not interested and leaves well alone. An inswinger gives Robson a chance to work the ball through the on-side - an area he looks strong - and two runs are added at the end of the over
    6/15/2014 12:59:31 PM
  • Captain Cook departs: Slight edge sees him caught behind & depart for 28. England 44-1 #SkyCricket #EngvSL

  • Robson bld Eranga 19 [wicket]

Eranga picks up his second wicket when Robson plays on with a tentative forward prod
    6/15/2014 1:00:58 PM
  • Snicko shows the slight contact with Cook's bat. Umpire didn't look too sure! #EngvSL #SkyCricket

  • Over 14 - England 46/1 (Robson 15, Ballance 0)
Disappointment for Cook, who once again falls on the drive. Ballance joins Robson in the middle and plays out a wicket-maiden
    6/15/2014 1:04:16 PM
  • England have extended their lead to 168. What do you think will happen during this afternoon session? #SkyCricket

  • Over 15 - England 50/1 (Robson 19, Ballance 0)
Robson brings up the England 50 in unconvincing fashion with a controlled edge through gully which trickles to the third man boundary. Sri Lanka are continuing to attack, which is good to see. The lead is 172
    6/15/2014 1:08:37 PM
  • Both openers back in the pavilion as Robson's out for 19. England now 51-2 at an overcast Lord's. #SkyCricket #EngvSL

  • Over 16 - England 53/2 (Ballance 1, Bell 2)
Robson looked suspect on and around off stump and it came as no surprise when that line brought about his downfall. Eranga got one to just nip back and it beat the right-hander for pace. Bell comes to the middle and immediately makes his mark with a drive down the ground for two
    6/15/2014 1:15:26 PM
  • Plenty of room in the Mound Stand!

    6/15/2014 1:21:02 PM
  • Over 17 - England 62/2 (Ballance 5, Bell 7)
Bell's arrival has coincided with an increase in intent from England. The Warwickshire man drives Kulasekara for three through the covers and Ballance then ends the over with a well-time clip through square-leg for four. Nine off the over and England's lead is 184
    6/15/2014 1:21:04 PM
  • Over 18 - England 63/2 (Ballance 6, Bell 7)
Just a Ballance single taken off Eranga, who has been very impressive so far today
    6/15/2014 1:26:36 PM
  • Not everyone is making the most of the cricket at Lord's this afternoon! #SkyCricket #EngvSL

  • Over 19 - England 69/2 (Ballance 9, Bell 9)
Bell has the Lord's crowd purring after another dreamy extra cover drive pierces the fielders and finds the boundary. With little swing or seam on offer Kulasekara has rather lost his potency. Could be time for Herath very soon...
    6/15/2014 1:29:57 PM
  • Prior ct Thirimanne bld Kulasekara 26 [wicket]

    6/15/2014 1:31:54 PM
  • Another for Eranga! Bell the latest to depart as England now 69-3. #SkyCricket #EngvSL

  • [shanewarne] Excellent delivery – Eranga is bowling beautifully here - he's got 3-11. It looked like it would swing away and it actually nipped back!”

    6/15/2014 1:32:09 PM
  • Over 20 - England 69/3 (Ballance 9, Root 0)
Double centurion Root strides to the crease with England still in charge but wobbling a little in their second knock. He joins Yorkshire team-mate Ballance in the middle with England 191 ahead and Eranga in the midst of a purple patch. Game on here with all three results still possible
    6/15/2014 1:36:49 PM
  • Change of 'wheels' for @joeroot05 after he donated his 1st innings pair to the Lord's Museum #LoveLords

  • Over 21 - England 74/3 (Ballance 14, Root 0)
Short, wide, four! Ballance rocks back and crunches Kulasekara to the fence with a ferocious cut shot and then ends the over with a quick single
    6/15/2014 1:39:17 PM
  • [benedictbermange] Joe Root has the chance to become the eighth man to score a double century and a century in the same Test after Doug Walters (Sydney, 1969); Sunil Gavaskar (Port-of-Spain, 1971); Laurence Rowe (Kingston, 1972); Greg Chappell (Wellington, 1974); Graham Gooch (Lord’s, 1990); Brian Lara (Colombo-SSC, 2001); Kumar Sangakkara (Chittagong-D, 2014)."

    6/15/2014 1:41:17 PM
  • Over 22 - England 75/3 (Ballance 15, Root 0)
Root came in with England in similar position in their first innings and we know what happened next... He won't have time to make 200 here but a quick 50 would do nicely. Eranga is posing plenty of problems though and finds Root's edge, only for the ball to fall short of wicket-keeper Prasanna. Just a Ballance single off the over. Drinks called.
    6/15/2014 1:43:25 PM
  • It's been a fantastic spell by Eranga. Ripping through the #England top order. He's taken 3-12 off nine overs.

  • Over 23 - England 75/3 (Ballance 15, Root 0)
Sri Lanka turn to spin immediately after a light refreshment and Herath is bang on the money to Ballance, beating him on the outside edge at the end of a very probing maiden
    6/15/2014 1:49:57 PM
  • [nasserhussain] In terms of setting up a potential victory, getting bowled out for 200 might not be the worst thing in the world for England here .”

    6/15/2014 1:54:40 PM
  • Over 24 - England 87/3 (Ballance 16, Root 11)
Root doesn't just get off the mark, he gets in to double figures as well after a productive over off Eranga, who may well be tiring. Root finds the rope twice in six balls, once with an under-edge through gully and then through extra cover with a sweet drive. England's lead is now 209 and any semblance panic is over
    6/15/2014 1:55:53 PM
  • Over 25 - England 91/3 (Ballance 20, Root 11)
Ballance gets the better of Herath this over, rocking back and cutting to the boundary at backward point. Just four off the left-arm spinner
    6/15/2014 1:57:11 PM
  • Over 26 - England 94/3 (Ballance 20, Root 14)
The excellent Eranga has taken a blow and Pradeep returns. Root is playing well here and adds three more runs to his and England's total. The lead is 216
    6/15/2014 2:01:53 PM
  • WICKET! Root lbw Herath 15 [wicket]
Herath traps Root lbw! A flighted delivery catches out Root, who gets caught a bit half forward and misses it with both bat and front pad.
It thuds into the back one, and umpire Bowden quickly agrees with Sri Lanka's appeals. Root considered reviewing, a consideration Ballance should've shot down in a flash.
    6/15/2014 2:05:20 PM
  • #England are now FOUR down at Lord's & are in a bit of trouble. Root trapped LBW by Herath, who deserved a wicket.

  • Over 27 - England 98/4 (Ballance 23, Ali 0)
Both Yorkshire batsmen had picked runs with front-foot drives, Root pushing his attempt for a quick single before Ballance bags three with a lovely shot, one where he uses his hands to open the face and place the ball.
However, Herath had the last word, trapping Root in front. Can't believe he even had to ask his colleague about a review, t'was hitting middle halfway up. Ballance, in his second Test, and Moeen Ali, on debut, now have some work to do...
    6/15/2014 2:07:08 PM
  • Over 28 - England 98/4 (Ballance 23, Ali 0)
Good over from Pradeep - England now having to wonder whether to stick or twist.
What Sri Lanka have done in taking four wickets is speed up the game a little, with the lead now standing at 220.
    6/15/2014 2:10:58 PM
  • WICKET! Moeen Ali b Herath 4 [WICKET]
Having come down the wicket to pump his first ball over the top for four, Moeen is bowled by a beauty from Herath to follow.
A little more flight and a little wider, it grips out of the foot marks and turns through between bat and pad (which weren't too close together as the left-hander looked to drive through extra cover). THIS IS GETTING INTERESTING NOW!
    6/15/2014 2:13:15 PM
  • Harath on FIRE! #England in trouble. Ali gets done as the spinner beautifully turns one out of the rough. 102-5.

  • [davidlloyd] This game has opened up unbelievably in the vulnerable third innings!”
