  • Plunkett’s extravagant innings comes to an end. Still no declaration from #Eng . Correct call? RT for Yes. Fav for No.

  • Over 126 - England 547-9 (Root 181, Anderson 0)
All of Sri Lanka's wickets today have come via the short ball but it's a tactic that has also cost them plenty of runs. Last man Anderson comes out to join Root. Can he see him through to a double ton?

  • [4]Over 127 - England 554-9 (Root 183, Anderson 5)
Anderson gets off the mark by reverse sweeping Herath in front of square for four. Not often you see that from a No 11.Time for drinks.

  • @pravspandey : @BumbleCricket which brand of cricket did you play in your days? 6 runs of 90 balls aye?!?!?”Careful
  • @Touchdown_Store : @BumbleCricket Bumble, ask warney why he always stuck his tongue out when bowling?”You ask him!

  • Over 128 - England 555-9 (Root 184, Anderson 5)
Big lbw shout against Anderson, and Sri Lanka decide to use the review. Given that you could see all three stumps when it hit the pad, you think it must have pitched outside leg. And it has. England bat on, Root 16 short of a double hundred.

  • Prior and England's slip cordon, as seen from the reverse angle stump cam. #EngvSL

  • Over 2 - Sri Lanka 10-0 (Karunaratne 5, Silva 5)
Nice shot from Silva, leaning on a full delivery from Broad and using the lovely hardness of the new ball to ping it away past cover for four.
    6/13/2014 2:23:58 PM
  • Over 3 - Sri Lanka 15-0 (Karunaratne 6, Silva 9)
Another four to third-man, for Silva this time off a controlled outside edge as Anderson swings one away from the right-hander.

Fancy England to go on and beat Sri Lanka at Lord’s? Sky Bet’s Tim Clement does.

  • The wavelength at slip between Ballance & Jordan not quite there yet. Straight down the middle.

  • Over 4 - Sri Lanka 23-0 (Karunaratne 14, Silva 9)
[missed-chance]Chance! This Karunaratne innings currently one to file under "charmed". Genuine outside edge at catchable height but right in the gap between Jordan at second slip and Ballance at third slip. Both go for it, neither gets a hand on it. The ball runs away for four, and Karunaratne adds four more in more convincing style with a clip off his toes through midwicket. It's not been dull today.
    6/13/2014 2:30:53 PM
  • Over 5 - Sri Lanka 29-0 (Karunaratne 17, Silva 12)
Good batting from this pair against Anderson, who is hooping the ball both ways in the air. Not just surviving, but looking to get the ball into gaps for ones and twos.
    6/13/2014 2:37:24 PM
  • Over 6 - Sri Lanka 31-0 (Karunaratne 19, Silva 12)
Good, probing over from Broad. Just two runs off it, worked behind square-leg by Karunaratne.
    6/13/2014 2:40:26 PM
  • Over 7 - Sri Lanka 35-0 (Karunaratne 19, Silva 16)
Big hooping inswinger from Anderson to Silva, but the Sri Lanka opener gets his bat on it and, as a bonus, gets it down to the fine-leg fence for four. That will be tea and part one of the job done for Sri Lanka's batsmen.
    6/13/2014 2:44:25 PM
  • Few hairy moments but Sri Lanka get to tea with all their wickets in tact. England bowled nicely, mind.

  • Tea
[tea]Outstanding innings from Root to propel England to 575-9, but the bowlers weren't able to make any inroads in the half-hour before tea. Came about as close as it's possible to come, though.

  • A lion doesn't concern himself with the opinions of a sheep.
  • This is shaping up to be a crucial session for both England & Sri Lanka. Stuart Broad leading the #Eng attack.

  • Over 8 - Sri Lanka 36-0 (Karunaratne 20, Silva 16)
Broad continues after tea. He's concentrating on hitting the pitch hard, back of a length. Karunaratne collects a single off his hip before Silva plays and misses outside off-stump.
    6/13/2014 3:08:02 PM
  • Over 23 - Sri Lanka 90-1 (Silva 34, Sangakkara 15)
Silva plays and misses outside off-stump again. Maiden from Jordan.

  • Cook mixing it up at Lord's in search of that valuable wicket. Moeen Ali into the attack.

  • Over 24 - Sri Lanka 91-1 (Silva 34, Sangakkara 16)
Moeen Ali into the attack for his first bowl in Test cricket. Perfectly decent first over, which costs him just a single driven to cover by Sangakkara. Don't think he bowled his doosra, but then I can barely pick my own nose.

  • Here's Joe Root's wagon wheel for his brilliant 200. He peppered that leg side with some classy shots!

  • Over 25 - Sri Lanka 92-1 (Silva 34, Sangakkara 17)
Good over from Jordan, with a short ball angling back in at Silva forcing him to take some sharp evasive action. Ends up losing his balance and putting his hand on the floor, but manages to get out of the way.

  • Over 34 - Sri Lanka 124-1 (Silva 52, Sangakkara 26)
[50]Anderson bangs one in short but Silva is up to the challenge, pulling the ball away between midwicket and mid-on for four. Wasn't perfectly timed, but was in good control and got enough of it to pick up the boundary. And another four, edged safely with soft hands through the slip cordon, brings up a fine, battling half-century. Good effort after a day and a half in the field (and two overs of wicketkeeping).

  • [shanewarne] Sri Lanka are doing well here – England haven’t bowled badly - but it just shows you that with the sun out, batting conditions are good. I think that no matter what the conditions, you need a frontline spinner for the variety. But the selectors probably think Moeen Ali is as good as anyone else in county cricket.

    6/13/2014 5:11:18 PM
  • Over 35 - Sri Lanka 126-1 (Silva 53, Sangakkara 27)
Plunkett back into the attack for England, but there's nothing much happening for him at the moment. England not bowling badly by any means here, but getting little joy out of Silva and Sangakkara.
    6/13/2014 5:12:12 PM
  • Silva's wagon wheel...

    6/13/2014 5:12:55 PM
  • Over 36 - Sri Lanka 126-1 (Silva 53, Sangakkara 27)
Good maiden over from Anderson. Silva watchful.
    6/13/2014 5:16:26 PM
  • Over 37 - Sri Lanka 128-1 (Silva 54, Sangakkara 28)
Two singles off Plunkett's over. Three overs, perhaps, for Sri Lanka to survive to complete a very acceptable session of batting here as they bid to get to the second Test at Leeds all-square. Or maybe better if something really extraordinary happens.
    6/13/2014 5:20:20 PM
  • Close: Sri Lanka 140-1, trail by 435 runs
[close]Superb effort from Joe Root and the aggressive England tail to lift the total to 575-9 before the declaration came, but Sri Lanka have responded well to reach 140-1 at stumps. England have bowled perfectly well but, after offering a bit of assistance yesterday, this pitch now looks very flat and good for batting. England have a lot of hard work to do to try and force a victory here.
    6/13/2014 5:35:55 PM
  • That's your lot. Sri Lanka see out Day Two pretty easily in the end. Joe Root the star man though with an epic 200.
