Fight Night Live

Fight Night Live - boxing from Echo Arena, Liverpool

    FIRST UP
Right here we go, Anthony Ogogo is first up on a bumper bill in Liverpool. He'll take on Sheffield southpaw Wayne Reed in a six rounder.
    7/12/2014 6:07:11 PM
    [on-the-floor] REED'S DOWN!
Caught napping in the first round, Reed is floored early by Ogogo - and he's got a cut on the top of his head as well, poor start for him!
    7/12/2014 6:10:09 PM
[round-1] All Ogogo in the opener, making a real statement with not only the knockdown but also constant pressure and a few hurtful shots as well, Reed looks outclassed.

[round-2] Reed rocked again late in the round, he's having to show a lot of toughness just to get through the second three minutes.
    7/12/2014 6:15:52 PM
[glen-mccrory] Glen McCrory is on commentary duty alongside Adam Smith, and he agrees it's looking hard for Reed.
Every time Reed is trying to throw a punch Ogogo is there to counter quickly, it's hard for him and he's showing a lot of guts just to hang on in there right now.

    7/12/2014 6:17:33 PM
    [round-3]
One way traffic I'm afraid for poor Reed - Ogogo is looking a different level, he's fast, strong, and he's opened up another cut, below Reed's right eye and I cant see this going for too much longer.
    7/12/2014 6:21:04 PM
    [round-4]
Reed's hanging on in there, not too bad in that round, but he's yet to have a sniff in any round, but could last the distance.
    7/12/2014 6:24:45 PM
    [tko] OGOGO WINS!
It's all over! Fair play to Reed, he started swinging for the hills as he got desperate, but Ogogo stood toe-to-toe with him and they battled it out in the corner, with Ogogo far too strong and the referee had no option but to stop it.
    7/12/2014 6:26:48 PM
Anthony Ogogo happy with his night's work, he really looked the part tonight, and he wants to face one of the British big boys after his next outing, which will be on the Kell Brook undercard in California. That win makes it seven out of seven for Ogogo.
I was happy with that, first and foremost great to be back in Liverpool. I took my time, I wanted to get a few rounds in, I'm glad a got the stoppage in the end. I want to be moved along now, I think I'm ready to step up a little bit.

    7/12/2014 6:30:54 PM
    [james-degale]
James DeGale is ringside, and he also wants to see more from Ogogo having been impressed with what he has just seen.
I've not seen much of his first six fights, but that was impressive. I really just want to see Anthony Ogogo step up a level now, because he's a world class athlete and he can go all the way. It's all about levels and tonight he was a level above.

    7/12/2014 6:33:39 PM
It wouldn't be Fight Night in Liverpool without the Smith brothers, and we've got two tonight, starting with Stephen Smith as he takes on Pedro Navarrete...
    7/12/2014 6:34:54 PM
    [round-1]
Cagey start in this one, Smith and Navarrete just feeling each other out in the early stages.
    7/12/2014 6:37:50 PM
    [round-2]
Smith tagged with a good right hand by Navarrete, just to wake him up, we know he needs the rounds but he can't afford to look beyond the Mexican, who looks like he's got some power in that right.
    7/12/2014 6:41:40 PM
    [round-3] Smith v Navarrete
Much better from Smith, he got a real telling off from Joe Gallagher in his corner after round two, and he looked upset with himself. But he took his time in that round and started to find some good counters.
    7/12/2014 6:45:55 PM
    [round-4] Smith v Navarrete
Only two wins in his last ten for Navarrete, but he's well in this and looks comfortable against a lacklustre Smith so far.
    7/12/2014 6:49:27 PM
    [glen-mcrory]
Glen's worried about how Smith's going about his task here...
Smith's come in a bit heavy for this fight, and he looks a bit lethargic to say the least. I hope he's not looked at Navarrete's record and thought this will be easy because no fights are. He's stressing a bit now and looks like he's worrying about his level of performance, which is not a good sign.

    7/12/2014 6:51:35 PM
    [round-5] Smith v Navarrete
Another so-so round, Smith's still struggling to get a foothold.
    7/12/2014 6:54:05 PM
    [round-6] Smith v Navarrete
Former amateur team-mate James DeGale agrees that Smith is fighting way below his best, and his body language is not looking great to say the least.
    7/12/2014 6:58:08 PM
    [round-7] Smith v Navarrete
Much better stuff from Smith in this round, looking more lively as we near the end of the bout.
    7/12/2014 7:02:17 PM
    [round-8] Smith v Navarrete
Smith gets more joy in the final round, and it should be enough to get him the decision but he'll be far from happy with his victory.
    7/12/2014 7:06:58 PM
Stephen Smith wins it what looked a nervy display, and at least he's through and could get a world title shot next..
We all have those nights, I'm not going to sit here and make excuses, I just had one of those nights. I'm not too disappointed with the result just the performance, but ask anyone they'll tell you you can't be 100 percent every time.
    Joe Gallagher agrees..
I thought it was a nervy performance, we're so close to that world title shot now it's like a semi-final and you don't want to slip-up on a potential banana skin. But he got the rounds in, this Mexican is tough and a knockout was never on the cards.

    7/12/2014 7:09:49 PM
A big one coming up next - Rocky Fielding faces Noe Gonzalez in what looks a 50-50 contest.
    7/12/2014 7:17:51 PM
    [round-1] Fielding v Gonzalez
Rocky failed to make the last fight and lost his Commonwealth strap, but he's inside the super-middleweight limit this time and looks lean and mean. Gonzalez is looking lively though as well, firing some early body shots in.
    7/12/2014 7:22:41 PM
    [round-2] Fielding v Gonzalez
Fielding keeping Gonzalez at bay, largely, but a feint and nice uppercut draws a big response from the Uruguayan's corner and sends out a warning to the home favourite.

    7/12/2014 7:30:00 PM
    [round-3] Fielding v Gonzalez
Turning into a good contest this one, Gonzalez is loading up when he can and is putting everything behind his shots. He's caught Fielding a couple of times and rocked the bigger man slightly back during that round - Rocky's also landed though in the best round so far.
    7/12/2014 7:30:08 PM
    [round-4] Fielding v Gonzalez
Similar pattern, Gonzalez backed up against the ropes, but he then bursts forward and is happy to trade, so is Fielding, who has already taken a couple of shots but has taken them well.
    7/12/2014 7:33:09 PM
    [tko] ROCKY WINS!
Fielding comes out early and catches Gonzalez while he's throwing punches and he floors the Uruguayan. He's tough though is Gonzalez and gets up but nothing is coming back and the referee stops it in the corner.
    7/12/2014 7:38:39 PM
Rocky Fielding was delighted with that win - a fifth-round stoppage of Gonzalez is exactly the same result George Groves managed against him...
Tough fighter isn't he! It was a serious fight, but it's the step up that a needed to bring out the best in me. And it was a good statement so people will be talking about me a bit - I got a lot of stick after my last fight, which wasn't the best, but hopefully I'll get a bit of credit now.

    JUMPING FOR JOY
Anthony Ogogo delighted with latest victory

    7/12/2014 7:44:50 PM
    7/12/2014 7:45:43 PM
    Next up Luke Campbell MBE...
    7/12/2014 7:52:39 PM
    [round-1] Campbell v Woodruff
First round back after a five month break for Campbell, not a bad start, looking busy and lively.
    7/12/2014 7:56:30 PM
    7/12/2014 7:59:05 PM
    [round-2] Campbell v Woodruff
Busy, is the best word to describe both men in that second round, Woodruff is no slouch himself and Campbell is being made to miss a fair bit.
    7/12/2014 8:00:26 PM
    [round-3] Campbell v Woodruff
The Welshman is providing more than just the odd problem for Campbell, mainly through his speed and slickness.
    7/12/2014 8:04:13 PM
    [round-4] Campbell v Woodruff
Muted applause after that round, very tactical, very quick hands from both but both are also proving hard to hit.
    7/12/2014 8:08:47 PM
    OGOGO REACTION
    7/12/2014 8:10:57 PM
    [round-5] Campbell v Woodruff
Woodruff growing in confidence, he does look comfortable in there and Campbell has barely landed a clean shot on him all fight.

    7/12/2014 8:30:00 PM
    [round-5] Smith v Biosse
Biosse just keeps on coming, and he also finds some attack and catches Smith with a left hand that clearly shakes Smith for a bit and Biosse turns up the pressure sensing it. We'll find out a great deal more about Callum Smith in the next few rounds...
    7/12/2014 8:47:29 PM
    [round-6] Smith v Biosse
Fast start to the round again by Biosse, and it's a quieter round from Smith, who may just have been stung in the last round - he still looks on top but was wise to keep Biosse at arm's length for three minutes.

    7/12/2014 8:53:02 PM
    [round-7] Smith v Biosse
Smith winning this by a mile, looks like he's not going all-in on the stoppage right now, and see his way through without any undue upsets against a dangerous opponent.
