  • [jonathandavies] The weight of expectation is once again on Clermont but I think they wear that favourites tag very well. They have so many different types of game plans to match all situations - that big forward pack who can set a platform and trundle on forward with the driving maul. Then they have the backs who can shift it wide and play some wonderful running rugby. They have developed many strings to their bow and can adapt to all conditions and all occasions. I expect Clermont to do very well - and next year as well, of course!

  • Owen Farrell is a huge injury concern for Sarries - he will be starting but won't be kicking for goal - Alex Goode will be stepping up to do that!
    4/26/2014 2:19:00 PM
  • Owen has been training  fully for the last ten days but Thursday was the first time he placed-kicked and it was just too sore and uncomfortable so therefore Alex will take the kicks.
Sarries director of rugby Mark McCall
    4/26/2014 2:20:36 PM
  • The major issue is that Owen is their go to guy  when they are under pressure. Those three pointers are just so important in a semi-final. For a man who has never stepped away from a  challenge in his life, for him not to kick a goal well there has to be a real concern about whether he can last the full eighty minutes.
Will Greenwood has concerns over Owen Farrell
    4/26/2014 2:23:08 PM
  • [jonathandavies] If Clermont can get their back three into the game - Lee Byrne, Sitiveni Sivivatu and Naipolioni Nalaga then I think they will have a bit too much firepower for Saracens. They are just such a dangerous threat and Saracens will have to be on song to stop them.

  • [kick-off] And here we go! Brock James gets this semi-final started!
    4/26/2014 2:41:25 PM
  • Clermont run the ball back after De Kock kicks for territory, Fritz slips though and the'Wolf Pack' are all over him.
    4/26/2014 2:42:25 PM
  • First scrum on the game - solid enough from Sarries but confusion in the midfield sees Brad Barritt knock-on - Billy Vunipola picks the ball up from an offside position and Clermont get a penalty.
    4/26/2014 2:45:18 PM
  • A nervy start from both sides as Fritz Lee knocks on. Solid scrum from Saracens and Farrell find a great  touch.
    4/26/2014 2:46:30 PM
  • A bit of aerial ping-pong until James finally finds touch close to Saracens' 22.
    4/26/2014 2:48:13 PM
  • [try] TRY! What a score! Great hands from Schalk Brits and Brad Barritt down the short side opens up some space and Barritt holds James before releasing Ashton who is over!

  • Saracens 7-0 Clermont Auvergne
Goode steps up and adds the extras - great start for Saracens!
    4/26/2014 2:51:39 PM
  • [penalty-rugby] Saracens 7-3 Clermont Auvergne
Saracens are penalised after De Kock plays the ball on the ground! Morgan Parra steps up and narrows the gap.

    4/26/2014 2:53:28 PM
  • Saracens 14-3 Clermont Auvergne[try] PENALTY TRY! All sorts of confusion as Clermont's clearance kick is charged down behind the posts. It looks like Brock James deliberately knocked that ball into touch! Nigel Owens goes to the TMO! He sends James off for ten minutes and gives a penalty try! Alex Goode adds the extras.

    4/26/2014 2:58:08 PM
  • Saracens 14-3 Clermont Auvergne
Clermont look a bit shocked by what has happened - a great kick from Parra close to the Sarries line may just settle them. Bonnaire steals the lineout but Parra cannot hold onto it and Sarries are able to clear their lines.
    4/26/2014 3:01:34 PM
  • SKY BET ODDS
[betting]After Chris Ashton's early try the Sarries winger is 7/4 to score a brace or 16/1 to complete a hat-trick against Clermont. Bet on the Heineken Cup.
    4/26/2014 3:03:41 PM
  • Lovely run from Alex Goode who seems to have far too much space to run. Mouritz Botha gets in the way of  Schalk Britz  though and a great attacking move comes to naught!
    4/26/2014 3:03:54 PM
  • Saracens 14-3 Clermont Auvergne

    4/26/2014 3:05:09 PM
  • Saracens 14-3 Clermont Auvergne
Sitiveni Sivivatu is off on a  great run - Lee Byrne takes it further and then Jamie Cudmore gets off on a rampaging run down the touchline - they are parked right on Saracens line as Fofana and Parra try to wriggle over. A great tackle from Mo Botha but Clermont get a penalty!
    4/26/2014 3:07:36 PM
  • Saracens 14-3 Clermont Auvergne
Parra goes for the corner after it looked like prop Davit Zirakashvili was going to tap and go.
    4/26/2014 3:08:18 PM
  • Saracens 14-3 Clermont Auvergne
Great take from Chouly but Sarries drive them back, Clermont still have the ball though and regather. Sivivatu spins out of a tackle or two before they find some space and Benson Stanley goes over! Nigel Owens wants to see if there is an obstruction though!
    4/26/2014 3:10:15 PM
  • Saracens 14-3 Clermont Auvergne
Stuart Barnes says that Owen Farrell has milked that but Nigel Owens says it was crossing and has ruled out the try!
    4/26/2014 3:11:02 PM
  • Saracens 14-3 Clermont Auvergne
Saracens are pinged for going in from the side. Parra does not even think about three points and finds a great touch!
    4/26/2014 3:14:23 PM
  • [penalty-rugby]Saracens 14-6 Clermont Auvergne
Clermont get the catch and drive going and try and get some more yards through Chouly who is well tackled, Burger is off his feet at the breakdown and is penalised. Owens warns Sarries skipper Borthwick about too many penalties. This is right in front of the posts and Parra decides to take the points on offer.
    4/26/2014 3:16:49 PM
  • Ashton over for his try

    4/26/2014 3:20:49 PM
  • Another TMO decision - Owen Farrell think he is over after Alex Goode found a lovely line and sent Ashton on his way. He passes inside to De Kock who is tackled without the ball. Farrell pounces on the ball and scores but did the ball come off his knee or his hand? It's either a try or a penalty for Sarries.
    4/26/2014 3:22:57 PM
  • [try]TRY! Saracens 21-6 Clermont Auvergne
The ball is off the knee and the try is awarded! Goode makes it 21-6 to the home side!
    4/26/2014 3:24:20 PM
  • Saracens 21-6 Clermont Auvergne
Jacques Burger is all over the place - his tackling is phenomenal and is not giving Clermont any space at all.
    4/26/2014 3:26:51 PM
  • [penalty-rugby]Saracens 24-6 Clermont Auvergne
Sarries on the attack again as Ashton finds some pace past Clermont's props - Sarries look for their 4th try but a foot in touch ends that for the time being - however they have a penalty and Good steps up to extend their lead!
    4/26/2014 3:29:21 PM
  • Saracens 24-6 Clermont Auvergne
Two minutes to go until half-time and Sarries already look out of sight!
    4/26/2014 3:31:18 PM
  • This has been one of the most daunting defensive displays I have ever seen from a English club - at Twickenham or anywhere.  On top of that their finishing down the short side has been magnificent and that is why Saracens are in a wonderful position to make a move towards Cardiff.
