  • [cricket]FLOWER POWER
Andy Flower has been defending his England players ahead of the third Ashes Test at the WACA in Perth (the action gets underway at 2.30am UK time on Friday, live on Sky Sports 2). The tourists have come in for heavy criticism after losing the first two Tests in Brisbane and Adelaide but Flower says the 2-0 scoreline is not due to a lack of heart...

Usually in sporting contests, when there are losses - especially heavy losses - one of the first areas people look at is lack of fight, or the other side wanted it more. That's quite a simplistic view.

The Daily Mirror's Darren Lewis joined Sky Sports News' Mike Wedderburn in the Sky Cafe earlier for the Paper Review. Roy Keane's feud with Sir Alex Ferguson dominates the back pages as he claims the former Manchester United boss is still trying to exert "control and power" at the club. Elsewhere, there is the latest on the spot-fixing scandal, with further arrests...

Assistant manager Johan Mjallby says the club had no option but to take action against the fans whose behaviour marred last Friday night's win over Motherwell. Celtic suspended 128 fans from their games and relocated 250 season-ticket holders after smoke bombs and flares were thrown and seats were damaged at Fir Park.

You don't want to have mayhem, you can't have this disruption inside sports grounds so we have to get together to support the club in the best  way. It is a distraction I don't like. The club has reacted in the best way.

  • [manchesterunited]'THE FURY HAS GONE'
Gary Neville fears Manchester United's title dreams are already over and he feels they failed to take enough risks in the early part of the Premier League season. Is it down to the change of manager?

It's the same team that Sir Alex Ferguson picked - Fellaini wasn't out there on Saturday - and it's just not good enough at the moment. They really are struggling in a lot of areas. The big thing for me is the goals. The goals have shut down - and if you go into more detail they are not passing the ball forward, the crossing is poor and there isn't that fury at the end of games.

  • 12/10/2013 11:05:46 AM
Senior sports officials are meeting Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Maria Miller in Whitehall today to discuss the latest developments in the spot-fixing investigation. The meeting follows the arrests of several footballers in the last 48 hours; they have since been bailed. Amy Lewis is reporting from DCMS Headquarters for Sky Sports News...

The meeting so far has lasted for more than an hour, and is due to run for at least another hour. Miller has invited the heads of various sporting bodies - from football, cricket, rugby union, rugby league and tennis. At the moment, many sports operate a 24-hour hotline in which people can report their concerns but there have been calls to go even further, such as setting up an integrity unit within football.

Olympic 400 metre hurdles semi-finalist Jack Green will spend 2014 out of athletics after a battle with depression. Hopefully we'll see him back at full strength in 2015.

  • [skysportsnews]SPOT-FIXING MEETING
FA general secretary Alex Horne has been speaking to Sky Sports News' Amy Lewis outside DCMS Headquarters in Whitehall after a 90-minute meeting with Maria Miller about developments in the spot-fixing investigation was brought to a close.

It was a very positive meeting.. it was a 'where are we all at?' and 'what do we think?' We're never complacent, and there's a lot we can learn from other sports. The general consensus around the room says this isn't a wide-scale issue, but we really welcome the recent impetus from the National Crime Agency. Criminal activities must not be underestimated.

We've known him as Sir Bradley Wiggins for a while now - now it's official as he meets The Queen at Buckingham Palace to be knighted for his services to cycling. Afterwards he talked about the ceremony and his future.

It was quite nerve-wracking actually. I'm just incredibly uncomfortable in those circumstances.I'm still shaking now, to be honest. I'm glad it's over. The Queen asked what I'm doing now, and it was an incredible summer last year.

I mean it's quite humbling, really, being here. I was just talking to some of the other people getting stuff, and asking them what they've been honoured for, and they're historic things, ground-breaking sciences or whatever.
