Sky Sports Today - 11th December

  • [sunny] GOOD MORNING
A very warm welcome to Sky Sports Today. On the agenda today is a look back to Manchester City's superb 3-2 away to Bayern Munich and also all the build-up to tonight's Champions League games involving Arsenal and Chelsea. And, of course, there'll also be plenty of Ashes chat too as we look ahead to the third Test between England and Australia.

  • CITY CONFUSION [manchestercity]
First up, the bizarre story that Manuel Pellegrini appeared to be unaware that Manchester City needed only one more goal against Bayern Munich to top their UEFA Champions League group. James Milner confirmed that impression later:
We didn't know if 4-2 would be enough or if we would need 5-2. We thought it needed to be 5-2 to be honest.

  • HARD TO BELIEVE [manchestercity]
Our Champions League panel - Graeme Souness, Glenn Hoddle and Jamie Carragher - find it incredible that Manuel Pellegrini didn't realise just one more goal against Bayern Munich would put Manchester City on top of Group D.

  • SMITH ON GUNNERS [arsenal]
Sky Sports News Radio are talking with Alan Smith LIVE in Naples at 9.30am – will Arsenal play for the draw they need or go all out for victory against Rafa Benitez's Napoli?
    12/11/2013 9:24:38 AM
  • [arsenal] ONLY THE BEST WILL DO
Arsene Wenger has insisted there is no danger of Arsenal becoming complacent against Napoli as they look to tie up UEFA Champions League qualification. The Gunners have travelled to Italy with a three-point lead at the top of Group F, knowing a draw would be good enough to secure first place and they could even progress if they lose.
Benitez has a very big experience, is a very intelligent manager, so I know he will prepare his team well. The only way we can counter that is to be at our best and put in a good performance as an average performance will not be good enough.

    12/11/2013 9:29:12 AM
  • [manchesterunited] UNITED PROGRESS
Manchester United may have been struggling in the Premier League but they are through to the last 16 of the Champions League as Group A winners after a narrow 1-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk last night. Manager David Moyes was pleased to return to winning ways after a couple of home defeats domestically and expressed his delight at progressing to the knockout stages.
When you get near the top you want to win the group. We had the game in Sociedad where we should have won and we ended up drawing, so we maybe would have had this wrapped up long before now.

It is all well and good me sitting here talking about fight and hunger and everything, but the only way we are going to show how much fight and hunger we have got is out on that cricket pitch.

He does, however, admit that he has lost confidence in Chelsea’s ability to keep out corners.
Maybe you laugh but I think, in this moment, if we train defensive corners, against the dummies, I think one dummy will score!
