Not sure England are entirely deserving of a guard of honour at the moment, but that's apparently what this water truck at Alice Springs airport was trying to deliver... it was aimed away from the tour party, by the way...

  • [cricket]SLEDGING
Australia coach Darren Lehmann is in no mood to make the Ashes a warm, cuddly affair. In response to questions about whether he would hold talks with England coach Andy Flower following the controversies of the first Test, he had this to say...

From my point of view, Andy looks after his side, and I look after my side. That's what you do in the game of cricket. I played cricket with Andy - I know him and I talk to him all the time. But at the end of the day, he's in control of the England cricket team - and we have to try to get the Ashes back.

  • [everton]BAINES BLOW
Everton manager Roberto Martinez lost a big player for up to six weeks after it was revealed left-back Leighton Baines had fractured a toe. Here is what the Toffees boss had to say...

It could mean anything from missing six weeks to being back in 10 days because it depends how the fracture heals. Gareth (Barry) slotted in during the game and when you have got a player with that experience, he can play anywhere. We have got other players at the football club who can play in that position

Rimla Akhtar, from the Muslim Women's Sports Foundation...

We need to look at how we are creating opportunities for women, how open we are and how flexible to the needs of this community. Simple things like creating an all-female environment, which is perfect for these women to feel comfortable in. It is difficult and that is why we go in and help organisations achieve that

Female golfer Charley Hull, who helped Europe win the Solheim Cup...

I get a bit more recognised by people. I've had a few golfers saying well done to me. It is really good because you feel like you can inspire other people. The main thing for my success is my dad as he has never been pushy. I wouldn't give advice to a teenager, but to the parent: just let them do it off their own back

  • [cricket]COUNTY CRICKET CHANGES
The ECB's professional game managing director Gordon Hollins has been explaining the thought process behind the changes to the county cricket set-up.

There is a huge latent demand for county cricket, huge interest throughout the country. Whilst that exists, people just didn't know when matches were being played. So what we've tried to do with this schedule is de-clutter it.

  • [cricket]SLEDGING
England coach Andy Flower says his side and Australia must "draw a line" to ensure the acrimonious scenes during the first Ashes Test in Brisbane are not repeated...

I think there are standards of behaviour that individuals and teams must set themselves. The competition should be intense. It's played between two proud cricketing nations. But I think we need good leaders, who know where to draw the line, and they need to be good role models.

We've been places that we would never have thought of in the past. That has really helped us. Everyone is excited about next year. Changes are great for everyone apart from Red Bull.
