New Norwich signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel reportedly told Dutch magazine Voetbal International this week that the Canaries are looking to bring in an attacking midfielder and two wide players this summer, but Chris Hughton claims his new recruit has been misquoted.
I did hear the reports and they are certainly not accurate. It isn't rocket science they are key areas we would be looking at. Ricky is an indication of what we wanted to bring in - a forward with a very good goalscoring record. Certainly no specific individuals were spoken about or positions.

    3/29/2013 4:58:38 PM

According to Celtic manager Neil Lennon, some Scotland players "need to leave their egos at the door" if the national team is to emerge from its current slump. The 2-0 World Cup qualifying defeat in Serbia in midweek left the Scots at bottom of Group A with two points from six games and confirmed they won't be going to Brazil in 2014.
In terms of the national team, some of the players need to leave their egos at the door and sacrifice a little bit more for their country. I am not just talking about the hunger at young level, I am talking about the hunger at senior level. I think players are comfortable at their clubs and it looks to me like it becomes a bit of a chore rather than a privilege to play for their countries.
    3/29/2013 4:59:44 PM

Full-time: The big news from the Championship is that Watford have been pegged at home to Burnley in a 3-3 draw, with Sam Vokes snatching a last-gasp winner. In the other 3pm game, Jordan Rhodes sealed a 1-1 draw for Blackburn against Blackpool. Stay with us for the full reports.

Rangers manager Ally McCoist believes delaying the restructuring of Scottish league football would be a sensible decision. Clubs met at Hampden on Thursday to discuss the proposed 12-12-18 revamp, which would leave Rangers rooted in the third tier if it was implemented next season.
We don't want to jump into something that is wrong and we are faced with the same problems three or four years down the line.

Gianfranco Zola reflected on Watford's defensive frailties after they were held to a 3-3 draw by Burnley at Vicarage Road.
A sloppy piece of defending costs us a lot. I understand we have a very young team, but there's not much time for them to learn, we need to grow up quickly.

  • [bn]Jockey JT McNamara paralysed after suffering neck injury in fall at Cheltenham Festival
    3/29/2013 7:16:00 PM

Reading owner Anton Zingarevich believes the Royals need to win five of their eight remaining games to avoid relegation.
It's a tall order, but if you look back a couple of games, we had a good chance of staying up. It changes.
    3/29/2013 7:18:46 PM

JT McNamara is reported to be in a "very positive" frame of mind despite suffering a serious neck injury which resulted in paralysis at the Cheltenham Festival.

Blackpool manager Paul Ince felt the result was a fair reflection of the game after his side drew 1-1 with Blackburn at Ewood Park.
The first half was poor really, the players got involved in the occasion rather than actually playing the game - it was all about headers and tackles and getting knockdowns.
Blackburn caretaker manager Gary Bowyer praised his players after they battled back.
There's a lot of respect there for Michael Appleton and it was a decision that shocked the players. To their credit they got on with their work and had a right good go.
    3/29/2013 7:55:33 PM

Birmingham manager Lee Clark played down talk of a late play-off charge after his side had romped to a 4-0 victory at Crystal Palace.
We are just looking at the clubs directly above us to try and peg them back. We are also not being arrogant or ignorant and thinking we are out of what is going on behind us as well.
Crystal Palace boss Ian Holloway faces a challenge to pick up his players after their heavy defeat.
I can't remember my team missing as many balls flying across the box or making as many wrong decisions as they did out there and they've gone and scored four. That is the last thing we need but we've got to get on with it.
