Michael van Gerwen claimed the Premier League title at London's O2 with a thrilling 10-8 triumph over Phil Taylor. The Dutchman - who had finished the round-robin stage of his debut season on top of the table and then defeated James Wade 8-4 in his semi-final - rallied from 5-2 down to see off the 16-time world champion. Victory was sealed in style with a 132 finish on the bull as Van Gerwen became just the fourth different champion in the event, as well as £150,000 richer.

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard believes the return of Jose Mourinho would help the Blues challenge for the Premier League title again. Real Madrid boss Mourinho is the red-hot favourite to fill the Stamford Bridge vacancy this summer with interim boss Rafa Benitez stepping aside after Sunday's Premier League finale with Everton.
Challenging for the league again next season is a huge priority and if Jose does come back it will be a huge lift for this club. He's the greatest manager in Chelsea's history and changed the whole mentality of the place to turn us into a winning club.

Bill Kenwright has assured Everton’s fans that the club's future is in good hands, as David Moyes prepares to call time on his Goodison Park career before moving to Manchester United this summer.
Although we will miss him like there is no tomorrow, I promise you David, we will just maintain what you have started and I won't let you down.
Moyes is also confident that Everton will continue to flourish after he leaves.
This group of players is great - they police themselves, in training every day they demand it and they will not allow that to change, they know the standards and they know what is required.

West Brom boss Steve Clarke has insisted that unsettled striker Peter Odemwingie will not be sold cheaply in the summer. The Nigerian has repeatedly hit out at Albion over his treatment during the second half of the season, since famously turning up at QPR on transfer deadline day in January only for a deal to fall through, but Clarke is not willing to budge on a likely £4m price tag.
Whoever wants him has to pay the market value. Is that the same as it was in January? Yes. We are not a charity.

England boss Roy Hodgson believes Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy deserves his call-up to the squad for the friendlies against Republic of Ireland and Brazil.

    5/17/2013 8:31:17 AM

[ssn]Mike Atherton has told Sky Sports News he is expecting more from England after a slow day at Lord's.
It was certainly slow by any standards but it had its points of interest as well, particularly a good balance between bat and ball. I think the New Zealand seamers bowled with excellent discipline and control and got he ball swinging a little bit in the air. England were a bit timid and I think they will certainly try and ask more questions of the New Zealand bowlers than they did yesterday.

[ssn] Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is looking forward to his side’s final game against Sunderland but does not think it is his place to comment on whether the season can still be regarded as a success if Spurs miss out on Champions League qualification.
It is not up to me to judge. It is up to the board and the chairman to decide what will be considered a success or not. What we are striving to achieve is 72 points, which will be our Premier League highest and is already a considerable tally. But it shows you have to improve and gather more points next time.

[ssn] Arsene Wenger has insisted he did not pay much attention to Alan Pardew’s comments last week when he joked that he did not care whether Newcastle lost to Arsenal. The two sides meet on Sunday and Wenger is expecting a tough game at St James’ Park.
I take that as a relief at being safe, and then reality kicks in and Newcastle will play their normal game. I think you have to take a distance with this kind of statement. They have been under a lot of pressure and got safe so of course there is euphoria.

    5/17/2013 9:12:13 AM

[twtr] Here are some of your thoughts on whether Arsenal or Tottenham will finish in the top four.

    5/17/2013 9:17:10 AM

[ssn] Andre Villas-Boas remains confident that Gareth Bale will remain at Tottenham next season.
Our interest is for the player to continue here and we have made that very, very clear. Whatever is happening, the idea is for the player to be with us next season.
Villas-Boas has also hinted he could make a summer move for David Villa but has dismissed speculation linking the club with the Croatian Ante Rebic.
    5/17/2013 9:28:45 AM

[ssn] Sir Alex Ferguson admits the celebrations over the past few days have been some of the best he has ever experienced as Manchester United manager, having been presented with the Premier League trophy last Sunday and then enjoyed their victory parade around the city 24 hours later.
Sunday was quite amazing, it was unbelievable. And the parade on Monday, I thought 99 could not be beaten, but this was incredible.

    5/17/2013 9:55:13 AM

Arsenal have been linked with a  move for Wayne Rooney after he requested to leave Manchester United, but Arsene Wenger says they have not stepped up their interest as they are concentrating solely on the clash with Newcastle.
I don’t know if Man United will sell Rooney. That is the best sign to show you that we have not made any approach for him because the first thing to do is to call Man United, which we did not do.  At the moment we are focused on Sunday.

When I first came to Bolton we found ourselves in 17th position and had to get the confidence back in the group, so right now we are feeling very confident that we can get off to a good start and take the momentum into next season.

[ssn] QPR will be another club desperate to win promotion to the Premier League next season, and manager Harry Redknapp admits he has a lot to do to get the squad ready.
It is a busy summer for the club. We need to change things here to give ourselves a chance of trying to mount a challenge and give ourselves a chance of getting out of the Championship because it is not going to be easy. That is where all the hard work starts, trying to clear the decks and get some fresh blood in.

Reading striker Jason Roberts believes players were not consulted properly over the FA's decision to introduce a five-match minimum ban for racist or other discriminatory abuse. UEFA recently set a 10-game sanction for similar offences and Roberts feels the FA should have taken a similar stance.
The last 18 months regarding equality at the FA has consisted of bad decisions, lack of will, lack of consultation and lack of leadership!
