[ssn]Michael Owen is coming up live in the wake of his announcement last week that he will retire at the end of the season. Stay with us for all the best lines.
    3/25/2013 2:01:53 PM

[ssn]Michael Owen is speaking to Sky Sports News reporter David Craig at his horse stables in Cheshire
On his decision to retire, Owen says…
I have known since probably before Christmas this was going to be my last season… it has been quite an emotional few days… It was more emotional than I thought it would be.
On his plans after retiring, Owen says…
I have two main things I would like to do. I would like to stay in touch with football. The first is in the media, potentially doing some TV work. The second is to set up my own management business which looks after younger players predominantly.
On his highs and lows, Owen says…
My whole career has been something I could not have dreamed of as a youngster. Early on in my career was probably the high and the year I won Footballer of the Year. Before that, as well was my England debut, that goal against Argentina and the hat-trick in Munich. It is unfortunate the injuries damaged my career.
Asked whether he played too much as a youngster, Owen says…
In hindsight, you have to say I played a lot… I played loads go games early and did not have a break in the summer for years and years… It is something I look back and think maybe if I had played less it would have helped later in my life... But maybe if I had gone slower early in my life, I wouldn’t have had those golden moments.

[ssn]More from Michael Owen and his exclusive live interview with Sky Sports’ David Craig.
Asked about his time as a member of England’s ‘Golden Generation’, Owen says…
It was a great time and some great players but we didn’t win a tournament so you have to say it was a disappointment. We got to almost every quarter-final there was!
On whether the media put too much pressure on England’s players, Owen says…
Not really. I think it is fair to say some people crumble under pressure… I think you could go through a list of players who play well for their club and then disappoint at international level… If you play for England, you need to play with pressure.

    3/25/2013 2:16:10 PM
[ssn]David Craig is still questioning Michael Owen live on Sky Sports
On former England team-mate Wayne Rooney, Owen says…
We all like to see Wayne Rooney at the top of his game and, if he is, he is straight in as England’s No.10

More from Owen on his interest in becoming a football agent…
Players of that calibre (Rooney), and looking after them, helping to shape their career, is exactly what I want to do. I was really pleased with my agent. I know people think agent is a scary world but they are a necessity… I think I can do well in the field.
On his time at Newcastle, Owen says…
Newcastle has always been a bit of a sore point, because I had a great four years up there. I was captain for some of it and loved it there and the people… It is a shame it always gets spun into negative comments.
On the potential of becoming a manager in the Premier League, Owen says
Not immediately. Give me time to think about it!

Gordon Strachan has been discussing Scotland’s upcoming game against Serbia, where both sides are looking to respond to defeats by Wales and Croatia, respectively. Strachan is without the likes of Robert Snodgrass.
The first 25 mins on Friday was almost freakish. But we got ourselves off the ropes and took the lead. We showed heart to do that… There will always be times when you are missing top players but as a group we need to work to deal with that… Scotland and Serbia are two teams hurting after the weekend results. Both will be looking to pick themselves up and improve performances.

    3/25/2013 4:32:09 PM

Gordon Strachan insists Scotland's performance during their game against Wales will not be repeated when they face Serbia on Tuesday.
It was a freak 25 minutes. I can't call it a bad 25 minutes. I thought it was freaky, what I saw was totally unusual.
