Simon Zebo will get his chance to stake a late claim for a place in the Test team when the British and Irish Lions take on the Waratahs on Saturday. The Ireland winger has only just teamed up with the Lions, having played against the US Eagles on Saturday before getting a call to provide cover for injured compatriot Tommy Bowe. However he will now look to throw down a marker to play Australia in the first Test on June 22.

    6/13/2013 7:18:56 AM

British and Irish Lions captain Sam Warburton claims the squad are all determined to put in a good performance against the Waratahs on Saturday.

I think players are always trying to impress. It doesn't matter what game it is or when, you always want to have a good game. All the players naturally put pressure on themselves. Nobody is reading into anything, there is still plenty to prove and a couple of games to go so the players will try to take this opportunity.

Paul Casey cannot wait for the US Open to get started and expects Merion to provide a "brutal" test of golf. Casey has fallen from third to 168th in the world over the last four years after struggling with form and fitness, but came through qualifying at Walton Heath last month thanks to rounds of 74 and 64.

It's the first time I've had to qualify so I am taking the approach that I am just enjoying playing in another US Open and I worked very hard to get here.
    6/13/2013 7:22:21 AM

Laura Robson insists she will need to spend more time on the practice courts with new coach Miles Maclagan if she hopes to make an impact at Wimbledon.

It's good so far and we've only had less than a week together so there's no miracles yet, but in general my serve is looking a bit better than it was and I'm feeling pretty good on court.

    6/13/2013 7:31:24 AM

Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp, who came close to inheriting the national reins prior to Roy Hodgson's appointment, claims England 'do not know how to play football' and has called for an overhaul at all levels.
We do not know how to play football. We just boot the ball up the pitch and it gets us nowhere. We don't have the kids coached the same way - the right way - from a young age. As a result we have a senior team that is greatly underachieving.
    6/13/2013 7:33:18 AM

Captain Kevin Sinfield believes England's clash against the Exiles will be similar to a bruising encounter with Australia or New Zealand.

It will certainly be Test-match standard, in terms of the ball being in play, the physicality Friday will bring and the speed of the game. It will be just like playing Australia and New Zealand.

Marco van Ginkel says playing in the Premier League is an ambition but he will not talk about his link with Chelsea until after his involvement with Holland at the U21 European Championship comes to a close.
The Premier League is a very good league, I think every young player wants to play there.
    6/13/2013 7:52:23 AM

Michael Laudrup claims he is planning to stay at Swansea despite his agent severing ties with the Premier League club.
The only thing I'm interested in his having the best players available in the next season.
    6/13/2013 7:57:05 AM

Danny Rose believes expectations placed on the England team are too high and has called for a sense of perspective. The Tottenham Hotspur full-back was part of the U21 squad that suffered three straight defeats at this summer's European Championship to crash out at the group stage.
We last won the World Cup in 1966 so I don't know why people put this expectation on England at all. The expectation should drop a little bit, definitely.
    6/13/2013 8:00:45 AM

Brendan Rodgers claims adding 'depth' to his Liverpool squad is a top priority as he presses ahead with his recruitment plans.
You can flip it about, but we just need to build up the depth of the squad. I want people who might be disappointed because they're not on the bench. At the minute we probably don't have that so it's competition we want to get.

[glennhoddle]Glenn Hoddle insists the Football Association must make major changes after England's humiliating European Under-21 Championship exit - but denied Stuart Pearce should take the blame.
Whether it is Stuart re-signing or a new person coming in, if the FA don't change the structure and help the coach why would anyone want to take the job?

    6/13/2013 8:37:29 AM

Cesc Fabregas insists speculation linking him with a summer move away from Barcelona is 'absurd'. The midfielder is said to be interesting Manchester United and former employers Arsenal.
I've always said that I'm happy at Barca. Whoever says that I'm leaving doesn't know me and has never spoken with me.
    6/13/2013 8:45:56 AM

Former Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has ruled out a return to Stamford Bridge - for this season at least. The Serbia international is currently impressing for Benfica and has been linked with a move back to the Premier League.
Of course, someone like Jose Mourinho wanting me to go back to London would be an opportunity to prove that I can play in the Premier League, but I want to achieve more at Benfica.

Newcastle forward Papiss Cisse has been granted backing from the PFA if he refuses to wear the new club shirt featuring the Wonga logo. Alan Pardew's side will wear the shirts for the first time in a pre-season friendly at Motherwell on July 16.
If someone feels very, very strongly that it's not compatible with their beliefs, then some sort of solution should be found.
    6/13/2013 9:20:30 AM

Mako Vunipola is hoping he has done enough to convince British and Irish Lions head coach Warren Gatland that he is worthy of a place in the Test team.

The coaches wouldn't have brought them in if they didn't feel they were good enough. So for me it's just the same, keeping my head down, keep working hard.

The people over there are totally keen on football and I am definitely able to imagine coming out for a club in their league in the future.
