A sensational century from Matt Prior and dogged resistance from Ian Bell and Stuart Broad helped England save the third and final Test in Auckland. England had started the day on the back foot - with New Zealand needing just six wickets to win and claim a 1-0 series victory. However Prior finished with an unbeaten 110, while Bell's brave 75 and a defiant six off 77 deliveries from Broad saw England to 315-9 and left New Zealand cursing their luck.

Matt Prior hailed a "phenomenal effort" from England as the tourists saved the series against New Zealand in Auckland.
It is still setting in to be honest. I am not really one to celebrate draws but to escape with that was a phenomenal effort.

It is widely accepted that England cannot afford to lose in Montenegro on Tuesday night, but Roy Hodgson has attempted to play down the importance of a 2014 World Cup qualifier in Podgorica.
If we can do it the easy way, that's great. But if we have to do it the hard way, then I am pretty sure we can dig in and do that.

England captain Alastair Cook admitted it was an uncomfortable experience watching his side salvage a dramatic draw against New Zealand in Auckland.
There were a lot of nerves. I managed to watch pretty much all the day until the last 18 balls. You'd much rather be out in the middle than to be a hopeless spectator.

England travel to face Montenegro tonight - but there may be a few things you don't know about the former Yugoslav republic.
    1. Water polo is considered the national sport of Montenegro. Montenegro won the European title in 2008 with a 6-5 win over Serbia.
    2. One of Montenegro's national dishes is krap - a form of carp from Skadar Lake prepared with dried plums, apples and quince.
    3. Montenegro are ranked 28th in the latest FIFA rankings, seven places above neighbours Serbia.
    4. Part of the James Bond film 'Casino Royale' was purportedly set in Montenegro. However, the scenes were actually shot in the Czech Republic.
    5. Montenegro has never reached the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. Its 2013 entry is a song called 'Igranka' by hip-hop duo Who See.

  • FEEDBACK

You have been letting us know you views on a dramatic final day's play in Auckland as England salvaged a draw with New Zealand.
who-ar-ya praised the attitude of the England players
Great never say die spirit is wonderful as it finishes a learning curve series on a positive note.
Prad was full of praise of England hero Matt Prior
Woke up to this stunning news. I was sure Matt Prior is now "GOD" ...he must be the biggest hero in his team today. Given England Inspiration again. One of the best last wicket keeper / tail end innings ever.
Ian, though, has questioned Brendon McCullum's captaincy
Very well played by Matt Prior but New Zealand should have had this one won if Brendon McCullum had only enforced the follow on. Must be his worst decision in his role as captain.

Mirko Vucinic is likely to pose the biggest threat to England in Montenegro, and he claims to have found a weak link to exploit.
I certainly do see that as a source of weakness because, if they do not play for their own clubs, I don't see why their national coach should pick them for the team.

  • Sir Ian and Bumble give their opinion on the nailbiting end to the final Test of the series between New Zealand and England.

  • CRICKET

[davidlloyd] After escaping in Auckland, Bumble wants to see England bat with more strut in this summer’s Test series.
England haven't had a batting head on and they've lacked any sort of aggression or energy. They've been out-thought and out-manoeuvred by New Zealand for long spells. I'd like to see more strut, more swagger and more arrogance from our players. It seems to be in the mind; we seem to have got into a monumental block situation and they've found it difficult to get out of that.

It is heartbreaking, obviously. We played some brilliant cricket throughout the series but especially in this Test match, and dictated terms from day one and we gave it every chance to force the result.

[ianbotham] More reaction to England's draw in Auckland, this time from Sir Ian Botham, who says Matt Prior has shown great quality to dig England out of a hole.
What more can you say about Matt Prior? He is an exceptional cricketer now. He was absolutely magnificent and Stuart Broad, after a very shaky start, settled in and hung around. It was a top, top effort. A draw sums this series up - the pitch wins in the end. The pitches have been, to be honest, too flat. England kept on trying to make it a bit harder for themselves but they showed great character.

[ssn]Although England barely escaped with a draw in their three-Test series with New Zealand, things looks even bleaker for Australia ahead of the Ashes. Australia were recently whitewashed 4-0 by India and have now lost captain Michael Clarke to a 10-week injury lay-off. Former England bowler Angus Fraser told Sky Sports News:
It’s certainly a major blow in the short term - there is other cricket that Australia will be playing before they take on England in the Ashes. The Aussie dressing room doesn't seem a happy place at this moment in time and I think a lot of England supporters will take a lot of satisfaction in that because for quite a number of years the boot was most certainly on the other foot.
