  • DOUBLE DELIGHT
Your NatWest Blast isn't just a one-night stand, you know. Far from it - Saturday sees not one but two games taking place at Lord's, with Middlesex taking on both Essex and Sussex. Director of cricket Angus Fraser told Sky Sports he cannot wait to get started...
We are very excited about the new format, and the double-header on Saturday. We were one win away from getting through to the knock-out stages last year and the desire this year is to get through to quarter-finals and then to Finals Day.

  • WICKET! BANGER FAILS TO SIZZLE! [wicket]
Mind you, O'Brien has some good company in the golden duck camp - Somerset skipper Marcus Trescothick has started his season with a whimper rather than a bang, Gloucestershire bowler James Fuller the man to dismiss the former England opener. At Durham, meanwhile, the Beard to be Feared has struck for Worcestershire, Moeen Ali dismissing the dangerous Phil Mustard leg before.

  • EARLY TROUBLE
Somerset have possibly the deepest batting line-up in the competition, but they're going to be tested at this rate as they've lost another now at Bristol - Peter Trego has followed skipper Trescothick back to the pavilion.

  • TYKES TUMBLING
That pre-tournament pick by former Yorkshire player Vaughan is looking a little dicey on opening night - his old county are three down in a hurry against Northamptonshire, England's Joe Root the latest to go. Seems Aaron Finch can't turn up from the IPL soon enough...

Visiting skipper Paul Horton called 'heads'...and he is correct! Lancashire - who include James Anderson and Jos Buttler - are going to have a bowl...
We fancy chasing on this ground. We know they are quite happy doing that here, too

Home skipper James Taylor admits he would have had a bowl, too
It's had a bit of weather over the last week, but it looks a pretty decent wicket.

  • Benedict is in position at Trent Bridge with a couple of key stats:
    [benedictbermange]
The average first innings score in domestic Twenty20 at Trent Bridge is 154. In 16 T20s played between Notts and Lancs, the record is split at eight wins apiece.

    5/16/2014 5:12:35 PM
  • HALES STORM [quotes]
Alex Hales hit England's first - and still only - T20 century in Bangladesh earlier this year. It led to calls for him to be included in the 50-over format, though for now the selectors have kept him in the squad only for the shortest format...

It was one of those days when everything clicked. It was a good wicket over in Chittagong. Twenty20 can be that sort of game that when it all clicks, you can take apart a bowling attack.

The right-hander admits he needs to be more consistent in the longer formats, having recently played a first-class game for Worcestershire after being allowed to leave Trent Bridge on loan...
Over the last few years my 50-over form for Notts hasn't been as good as I've wanted it to be. If I have a good campaign and keepin doing my thing in Twenty20, hopefully I can put on as much pressure as I can. I'm just desperate to play first-class cricket.

  • ON THEIR WAY
Messrs Lumb and Hales are walking out to the middle, at least I think they are as the pre-match pyrotechnics make it tough to see.

  • Michael is ready for action at Trent Bridge

    5/16/2014 5:31:26 PM
  • Over 1: NOTTINGHAMSHIRE 8/0 (Hales 6, Lumb 2)
Hales finishes the first over, sent down by spinner Lilley, by thrashing a drive straight down the ground for four. Here's an interesting battle coming up - Anderson against Nottinghamshire's openers. This is a ground the Burnley Express loves in Test cricket.
