T20 Blast - May 16

Live coverage of the NatWest T20 blast - Notts v Lancashire

  • WICKET! Brilliant catch from Croft on the long-on boundary to send Patel on his way for a fantastic 56. Notts 180-5 (19.4ovs) #t20
  • WICKET! Patel c Croft b White 56 [wicket]
Having heaved a six over long-on, Patel looks to have done the same when he connects with a length ball. Instead, all he does is offer Croft the chance to take a superb catch leaping in the air. Stunning stuff from the Lancashire man, who also ran out Wessels earlier.

  • Over 20: Nottinghamshire 182/5 (Read 17, Mullaney 1)
Good score from the Outlaws, though Lancashire will fancy their chances on a good deck. Game nicely set up

  • According to WASP, @LancsCCC have a 23% chance of chasing down this target. Here is WASP explained:

  • Over 1: Lancashire 4-0 (Brown 2, Smith 1)
England's latest international Harry Gurney starts off the second innings. Nottinghamshire keep appealing for leg before decisions that haven't got a hope of being given out in a month of Sundays.
    5/16/2014 7:01:56 PM
  • Over 2: Lancashire 8/0 (Brown 6, Smith 1)
There is a boundary in the over bowled by Shahzad, but so far we aren't seeing an fireworks from the Lightning in their reply.

  • STARS TO SHINE [video]
    5/16/2014 7:07:06 PM
  • Over 3: Lancashire 21/0 (Brown 14, Smith 3)
That's more like it from Lancs! Brown blasts a pair of boundaries off Gurney, who seems rather flustered by the batsman backing away and rather looses his line.

  • [twitter] WE HAVE A WINNER!
The first result of the opening night is in - Durham have defeated Worcestershire. Calum MacLeod made 80 for the hosts at Emirates ICG, while Paul Collingwood weighed in with 62 in a total of 173-4. The Rapids got off to a fast start thanks to Moeen Ali, but were eventually bowled out for 144.

    5/16/2014 7:11:13 PM
  • Over 4: Lancashire (Brown 16, Smith 4)
Get Carter - he leaks just two runs off the bat (as well as a couple of extras off the pads) to make amends for that previously expensive over.

    5/16/2014 7:15:13 PM
  • WICKET! Smith run out 12 [wicket]
Tom Smith goes as we see a carbon copy of the run out in Nottinghamshire's innings. Taylor was underneath a lofted shot from the left-hander, but then barely lays a finger on the ball. However, Smith has charged down for a run and Hales' clever thinking means a throw to the wicketkeeper sends the all-rounder on his way.

  • [twitter] FINE START FOR FOXES
Like Nannes, Scott Styris is another overseas recruit to impress on his first appearance. His half-century for Leicestershire carried them to a total that was too much for Derbyshire, despite the best efforts of Australian Marcus North...

    5/16/2014 7:17:57 PM
  • Michael Vaughan pieces together Smith's comical run-out:
Taylor usually has a safe pair of hands but he didn't used them! He chested it down and then it was brilliant awareness from Hales with a powerful throw

    5/16/2014 7:18:32 PM
  • Over 5: Lancashire 35/1 (Brown 16, Croft 1)
Timely wicket for Notts in that over, particularly as it had started with Shahzad being carted for six over mid-wicket by the now departed Smith.
    5/16/2014 7:18:58 PM
  • Over 6: Nottinghamshire 42/1 (Brown 22, Croft 2)
Crunching shot from Brown through the covers, Taylor dived but even an NBA player at full length couldn't have caught up with that one inside the circle. Powerplay ends with the visitors going along at seven an over. Not enough - work to do here

    5/16/2014 7:26:03 PM
  • Over 7: Lancashire 44/1 (Brown 23, Croft 3)
For Croft's all-sorts earlier now swap in Mullaney's not-even medium pacers. He keeps it tight and leaves Lancashire needing another 139. The ball is coming out so slowly it might need a taxi halfway down to reach the batsman.
    5/16/2014 7:26:08 PM
  • Over 8: Lancashire 49/1 (Brown 25, Croft 6)
Boundaries proving hard to come by for the Lightning as Jos Buttler remains sat in their dugout waiting for his chance. Patel continues his fine night with a tight first over.
    5/16/2014 7:28:10 PM
  • WICKET! [wicket] Brown c Wessels b Mullaney 25
Brown tries to be aggressive against Mullaney, but only bunts a catch straight out to long-on. A breakthrough for Notts, though you wonder if they're quite so happy to see Buttler coming out to the middle now...
    5/16/2014 7:29:11 PM
  • Over 9: Lancashire 56/2 (Croft 8, Buttler 5)
Two balls. That's how long it took Buttler to get the scoop out. Plays it perfectly, too. Gets way outside leg and helps a full delivery over the top of the wicketkeeper. He tries to go down the ground with the next ball and nearly puts a hole in Mullaney with a drive that the bowler, understandably, can't cling on to.
    5/16/2014 7:32:02 PM
  • Over 10: Lancashire 65/2 (Croft 16, Buttler 6)
Buttler's presence may have breathed some life into Croft, as he starts the latest Patel over by belting the left-arm spinner straight down the ground for four.
    5/16/2014 7:35:34 PM
  • I think Northants were pretty pleased with their victory...

    5/16/2014 7:36:43 PM
  • WICKET! [wicket] Buttler c Lumb b Mullaney 18
And a big wicket it is too. Having belted Mullaney down the ground for six earlier in the over, Buttler's bat slips in his grasp as he tries to repeat the trick. All he does is pick out a sliding Lumb at long-off. Huge breakthrough for the hosts.
    5/16/2014 7:38:25 PM
  • Over 11: Lancashire 80/3 (Croft 17, Horton 1)
15 from the over - but also the wicket of Buttler. Notts right on top here.
    5/16/2014 7:39:36 PM
  • WICKET! [wicket] Croft b Patel 19
Croft tries to heave Patel into the Trent. Instead he sees leg stump disturbed. Lancashire letting it fall apart in this run chase. They need another 101 runs to win from the remaining 51 deliveries.
    5/16/2014 7:41:12 PM
  • Over 12: Lancashire 84/4 (Horton 2, Clark 1)
Two fresh batsmen in and a run-rate that is rising faster than my blood pressure whilst keeping an eye on York City's play-off semi-final against Fleetwood.
    5/16/2014 7:43:24 PM
[betting]Another wicket falls with Lancs chasing 183, Lightning are out to 16/1 for a T20 Blast win at Trent Bridge. Check out the latest live odds on the Notts v Lancs.
    5/16/2014 7:44:41 PM
  • Over 13: Lancashire 92/4 (Horton 5, Clark 4)
Wides and singles. The only time that combination of words should ever be uttered together is as the nightclub lights go up. Lancashire going nowhere really, apart from Buttler none of their players have looked capable of hitting boundaries on a regular basis. They need another 91 from here.
    5/16/2014 7:47:52 PM
  • WICKET! [wicket] Horton c Shahzad b Patel 5
The procession continues - Horton tries to use the reverse sweep but only ends up lapping a chance in the air to the fielder at point. I think, THINK, Samit Patel might be on to win man of the match here...

    5/16/2014 7:50:05 PM
  • [nasserhussain] What an evening Samit Patel is having! He can do no wrong. The reverse-slog from Horton comes off the toe and goes straight up. Notts all over Lancashire like a rash.

    5/16/2014 7:50:24 PM
  • Over 14: Lancashire 99/5 (Clark 10, White 1)
Great spell from Samit Patel. He has picked up 2-25 from his four overs having earlier made a half-century with the bat. Nasser feels Lancashire look a batsman light in their line-up. Too much relying on the shoulders of Buttler.
    5/16/2014 7:51:28 PM
  • Over 15: Lancashire 112/5 (Clark 17, White 7)
White and Clark keep on swinging, the former getting four off Shahzad with a leg-side flick before the latter finishes the over with a six over mid-wicket that has the same trajectory as I wish from my pitching wedge on the golf course. Another 71 needed off 30.
    5/16/2014 7:56:09 PM
  • WICKET! [wicket] White c Wessels b Mullaney 7
The hits don't keep on coming for White, as he skies Mullaney out to deep mid-wicket. Was hitting to the long boundary and never quite had enough on it. Six down Lancashire and we're into their bowlers.
    5/16/2014 7:57:25 PM
  • Over 16: Lancashire 134/6 (Clark 39, Ali 0)
4-6-6-2-4 That was what Clark managed after the departure of White. He is gifted two full tosses from Mullaney for the sixes, then also clips away a leg-side half-volley to finish an expensive last over. Lancashire now need 49 from the last four. Could they? COULD THEY????
