The 92 live - Sky Sports News coverage from around the country

  • Good morning. It's Thursday 1st August 2013 and today Sky Sports News is set to make broadcasting history.
    8/1/2013 5:57:24 AM
  • On the eve of the new season, we will visit every Premier League and Football League club in a single day with live reports from each and every one!
    8/1/2013 5:59:09 AM
  • And we're even sending Jim White to several of the clubs in a helicopter...
    8/1/2013 6:00:28 AM
  • Jim has just kicked off 92Live from the roof here at Sky Studios... and he's about to get into his chopper to make his way around the country.

    8/1/2013 6:02:52 AM
  • You can follow 92Live throughout the day here on our rolling blog as we bring you news and updates from our reporters around the country, plus news, interviews and breaking stories from every club. And you can also catch up with the video reports on our Interactive Map
    8/1/2013 6:04:36 AM

And we're off! Our first report comes from Everton where Fraser Dainton is on the roof at Goodison Park to meet head groundsman Bob Lennon. He's been at the club for 25 years and has explained his excitement at the new pitch he's introduced for the season, which he hopes will help Roberto Martinez's passing style. He also showed us the new 'Hawkeye' box on the roof.
    8/1/2013 6:11:47 AM
  • Here's the view Fraser and Bob had from the Goodison roof!

    8/1/2013 6:12:59 AM

Next stop. East London. Bryan Swanson is there with the man who has the keys to the stadium... club secretary Terry Grovner. He's just spotted some holes on the pitch where some foxes have been at the turf... but he insists they will be ready in time for their first home game on August 10. He's also told us the club means more to him than his wife!
    8/1/2013 6:16:25 AM
  • Bryan is now off to West Ham (you'll see him on your screens again after 10am), while Jim White's chopper is in the air and is winging its way to Gillingham. In the first hour, we also expect to visit Leicester City, Preston North End, Rochdale and Sheffield Wednesday. Stay tuned.
    8/1/2013 6:20:31 AM
  • Keep your eyes on the skies today! Jim is coming...

    8/1/2013 6:22:14 AM

Next, James Cooper is meeting a Rochdale superhero... kitman Jack Northover. Fans of the club will be aware of this guy, who does loads of jobs around the club. He;s the longest serving staff member and he might be getting a testimonial at the end of the year. He says he'd love that to be against Man City or Liverpool.  He also told us that he fulfilled his privilege to do a naked skydive after the club got promoted!!!! He's also just performed a rap about Jeff Stelling. Lovely stuff.
    8/1/2013 6:28:58 AM
  • "It was pretty cold at 50,000ft..."

    8/1/2013 6:30:45 AM

Rob Dorsett has just had some very unique access. Leicester manager Nigel Pearson always comes into work early to plan his day and we've just had a look around his office (which is usually strictly out of bounds). He's told us about the long hours that he and his team put in every week.

    8/1/2013 6:34:24 AM
  • There is this misconception that Leicester City go out and spend money all the time and we're working hard to come into line with the financial fair play regulations. It's not an easy conundrum to solve, but we feel the players who were here last season are well equipped to do it again. I don't envisage any more signings.

Nigel Pearson tells us why he probably won't be bringing any more players in before the end of the transfer window.
    8/1/2013 6:39:31 AM
  • Nigel Pearson in his office

    8/1/2013 6:42:15 AM

Now it's time for one of English football's most traditional clubs as Peter Stevenson reports from pitchside at Deepdale where he's been joined by manager Simon Grayson. They kick off their season against Wolves at the weekend and they are practising at the stadium today. The squad will also be doing some yoga later today!
    8/1/2013 6:44:18 AM
  • He's a big signing for us. We beat a few Championship clubs to get his signature. He has a wealth of experience and has shown in pre-season what he's capable of doing. We're delighted with him, hopefully he can get us a lot of goals and his experience rubs off on the younger players as well.

    8/1/2013 6:46:27 AM
  • Here's the moment it all began with Jim White on the roof of Sky Studios earlier today
    8/1/2013 6:53:53 AM

Now we're off to sunny South Yorkshire. Ian Bolton is on the pitch at at Hillsborough with John Hemmingham of the Sheffield Wednesday Kop Band, proudly wearing the new Owls home kit. They've been around the world with England (and have more caps than Beckham or Shilton!!!) They've just ended the first hour of 92Live with a song for us!
    8/1/2013 6:58:34 AM
  • A great way to end the first hour!

    8/1/2013 6:59:23 AM
  • We're one hour into our marathon. Fans of Brighton, Plymouth Argyle, Bristol City, Huddersfield, York City, Peterborough, Tranmere and Shrewsbury Town stay tuned... your clubs are coming up very soon.
    8/1/2013 7:02:48 AM

Jim White and his chopper have made their first stop - and it's at the training ground of Gillingham. Our man has caught up with manager Martin Allen, who says his team are chasing more than survival this year. He says his side are "going into the unknown" and they're hoping to be the surprise package of the season. We also got to meet his faithful seven-year-old dog Monty!
    8/1/2013 7:05:52 AM
  • And here's Monty!

    8/1/2013 7:06:18 AM
  • Jim White and Martin Allen

    8/1/2013 7:08:36 AM
  • Jim takes a quick break before getting back on his helicopter. Next stop... Arsenal!

    8/1/2013 7:11:44 AM

We join Geraint Hughes who is on the pitch at Ashton Gate with club legend Louis Carey, who is three games away from equalling a record number of appearances. He's almost a vegan these days and says his secret to footballing longevity is the right stretches combined with the right nutrition. He says he plans to play into his forties.
    8/1/2013 7:12:20 AM
  • A Bristol City legend.

    8/1/2013 7:12:59 AM

Now we're in the dressing room at Plymouth Argyle with Amy LewisShe's chatting with club chaplain Arthur Goode, who explains the role that prayers can play at a football club. He says he's there for the players and holds prayer meetings pre-match. He explains that faith can play a role in all of our lives, including football.
    8/1/2013 7:16:34 AM
  • Here's Amy and Arthur in the dressing room.

    8/1/2013 7:17:07 AM

Now we're on the South Coast with Jamie Weir as Craig Mackail-Smith is being fitted for his matchday suit ahead of their first match of the season. He's just had his famous locks chopped off for charity! He says he is still two months away from fitness after picking up an injury and will be glued to Sky Sports this weekend as they open their season against Leeds.
    8/1/2013 7:20:42 AM
  • Looking dapper fellas!

    8/1/2013 7:23:38 AM

Today is not only 92Live. It's also Yorkshire Day and Richard Graves is in West Yorkshire at the brand new training complex of Huddersfield Town. The players aren't in yet, but he catches up with head chef Ray Sherlock to talk through their dietary needs. Youth tam boss Frankie Bunn also spoke of his excitement about the new training facility.
    8/1/2013 7:29:09 AM

  • Here's Richard and the team having a look around.

    8/1/2013 7:30:46 AM

London Road next and Kate Riley is with a good friend of Sky Sports News, Peterborough Director of Football Barry Fry. He has some breaking news for us after a council meeting last night - the club are set to knock down their terrace and build a new £10million stand. He says it's "win win win" news. He also says they are expecting to sign a new player today... so keep an eye out for that Posh fans!
    8/1/2013 7:33:56 AM
  • We were bitterly disappointed to go down with the last kick of the ball against Crystal Palace to a free-kick that was never a free-kick. The manager, the chairman, the players and the fans were absolutely devastated, but that's what happens in football. We've got to pick ourselves up and go again and get back in the Championship as soon as we can.

Fighting talk from Barry Fry on the eve of the new season.
    8/1/2013 7:37:11 AM

It's time for our first visit to the North East leg of 92Live and David Craig is on the pitch with club cheerleaders Fantasy Cheer and also Richard
, who rejoined the Minstermen ahead of the new
campaign, 14 seasons after leaving the club.
He says "it's a bit surreal" to be back, but he's excited about the shape of the squad.
    8/1/2013 7:40:45 AM
  • And here they are!

    8/1/2013 7:42:21 AM

Now we're inside Prenton Park with Alan Irwin and club manager Ronnie Moore, looking back at some old photographs. He's in his third tenure as manager of club, having also played for the club in two successful spells where he scored 78 league goals.
    8/1/2013 7:44:19 AM
  • Like every manager we could do with another couple of players, but we haven't got the money to go and do that so we get on with what we've got. They're a great bunch, there's no doubt about that and I think we've got a hell of a chance. We've got youth and experience in there so hopefully we'll get the goals we were lacking last season that would have taken us into the play-offs.

Ronnie Moore hopes to steer Tranmere into the promotion picture this season after disappointment last term.
    8/1/2013 7:46:50 AM
  • Here's a web exclusive for you... a behind-the-scenes look at what the SSN team have been up to at York City.
    8/1/2013 7:51:20 AM
  • Jim's in high spirits as he wings his way to Arsenal.

    8/1/2013 7:56:36 AM
  • So that's the second hour of 92Live completed. If you're a supporter of Shrewsbury Town, Southend, Oxford, Bristol Rovers, Nottingham Forest, Accrington Stanley, Liverpool or Fulham then make sure you stay tuned. We're coming to your club soon.
    8/1/2013 7:59:07 AM

Our next stop is Shropshire as Pete Colley chats to Shrewsbury manager Graham Turner inside the boot room. Turner is a rarity, he's seen the start of the season as player, manager and chairman and he says the best feeling is being a player! He's looking forward to facing MK Dons at the weekend - and the much younger Karl Robinson. He says the team are as ready as they'll ever be, he says it's a been as good a pre-season as he can remember and he has great confidence in his squad. However, he admits he'd like to sign a couple more players.
    8/1/2013 8:06:14 AM
  • Here's the 92Live team as they arrived at Shrewsbury!

    8/1/2013 8:06:59 AM
  • CLUB 16 - FULHAM

We're back off to London now where Dharmesh Sheth is on the Craven Cottage pitch with stadium announcer and celebrity fan David ‘Diddy’ Hamilton (and also Billy the Badger in the background). Diddy says he has been busy all summer practising announcing all the new players' names and he reflects on his favourite memory in his 20 years - the day they beat Juventus!
