    7/31/2014 8:48:03 AM

    7/31/2014 8:40:07 AM
  • Morning all.
    7/31/2014 7:29:47 AM
  • In case you missed it last night, here's the story on Everton signing Romelu Lukaku for £28m.
    7/31/2014 7:30:37 AM
  • Jose Mourinho said the striker had the wrong mentality to fight for a place at Chelsea:

"The thinking behind the move was the fact that Romelu was always very clear with us, in his mentality, in his approach, he was not highly motivated to come to a competitive situation at Chelsea," said Mourinho.

"He wanted to play for Chelsea but he wanted to be clearly the first choice striker, which in a club of our dimension, it is very difficult to promise to a player.
    7/31/2014 7:31:11 AM
  • The Daily Mail say Chelsea could spend the money on Atletico Madrid defender Joao Miranda. The 29-year-old is valued at around £20m.
    7/31/2014 7:32:09 AM
  • Meanwhile, Spurs are hoping to snap up Sporting Lisbon's England Under-21 defender Eric Dier for £4m, according to The Telegraph.
    7/31/2014 7:32:53 AM
  • Further afield, Hamburg are expected to complete a deal for Napoli midfielder Valon Behrami.
    7/31/2014 7:33:27 AM
  • And reports in Italy claim Lazio want to partner Ron Vlaar with new signing Stefan de Vrij. They obviously enjoyed watching Holland at the World Cup.
    7/31/2014 7:34:12 AM
  • Oh, we forgot to mention that Southampton signed someone last night! Woop! Ryan Bertrand has joined on a season-long loan with an option to buy.
    7/31/2014 7:43:25 AM
  • Saints will also have been encouraged by defeats for Celtic and Feyenoord in the Champions League last night as they step up bids for Hoops duo Fraser Forster and Virgil van Dijk as well as Feyenoord's Jordy Clasie.
    7/31/2014 7:44:27 AM
  • Right, cat video watched, Facebook checked, transfer blog open, work email only just being opened.

    Let's do this F365.
    7/31/2014 7:44:42 AM
  • Good morning Blog!
    7/31/2014 7:44:50 AM
  • Good morning.
    7/31/2014 7:44:56 AM
  • The Daily Star claim Marouane Fellaini has agreed a deal with Napoli but the Serie A side must now negotiate a fee with Manchester United.
    7/31/2014 7:45:44 AM
  • Steven Gerrard says he told Luis Suarez not to join Arsenal last summer because he felt the striker was too good for them.

"His dream all along from the first day he came was to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona," said Gerrard

"Last summer when he was out in the cold and training on his own that's the conversation I had with him. I said, 'Don't go to Arsenal'.

"With all due respect to them, I said to him that he was too good for Arsenal.
    7/31/2014 7:50:07 AM
  • Does Fellaini want me to pack his bags for him?
    7/31/2014 7:50:14 AM
  • Do you reckon Everton will spend any more? Their squad still looks thin to me and they can't have much cash left
    7/31/2014 7:50:17 AM
  • Perhaps they'll look at loans again now Lukaku and Barry have joined permanently.
    7/31/2014 7:50:35 AM
  • Bertrand to Southampton? Oh, thank God!
    7/31/2014 7:50:39 AM
  • "I am building a side for the next ten years" - Jose Mourinho

    Sells Lukaku and signs Drogba.
    7/31/2014 7:50:44 AM
  • You see for Saints to make the Bertrand transfer permanent they'll have to pay £10m. Wowsers. Decent signing on loan though until Matey Targett is ready
    7/31/2014 7:51:03 AM
  • Are saints going to get Clasie? Quite fancied having him to replace Cleverly.
    .
    7/31/2014 7:51:20 AM
  • Liverpool fans just did a jig at the Bertrand news.
    7/31/2014 7:51:21 AM
  • No Ryan Bertrand in the immortal words of Blur "Woo-Hoo".
    7/31/2014 7:56:57 AM
  • Good lord I hope Romelu proves Jose wrong here. However, no-one can say he doesn't like young players, like Balo, Varane, Oscar, Hazard etc. He's rarely wrong. Guess Lukaku just didn't fit.
    7/31/2014 7:57:05 AM
  • I sit next to Hamburg fan at work, he would rather sign Fellaini than Behrami. Im handing in a transfer request.
    7/31/2014 7:57:21 AM
  • Tony Pulis wants to bring Steven N'Zonzi to Crystal Palace.
    7/31/2014 7:58:15 AM
  • Another two names on Southampton's list are Sporting Lisbon left-back Marcos Rojo and Inter Milan midfielder Saphir Taider, according to the Daily Mirror.
    7/31/2014 7:58:47 AM
  • Meanwhile, the Daily Star are sticking with the story that Atletico Madrid want Santi Cazorla.
    7/31/2014 7:59:14 AM
  • N'Zonzi & Jedinak - decent midfield
    7/31/2014 7:59:24 AM
  • So Stanley Collymore had this to say on twitter last night "Gooners, haven't forgotten you. Khedira still 100% on, whatever anyone else tells you."
    7/31/2014 8:02:48 AM
  • Typical. Biggest dealio of the past few weeks and it happens outside of transfer blog hours.
    7/31/2014 8:03:04 AM
  • Oh, BTW, Good morning, Blog! It's 1:30 pm here in India, and just after lunch. Needless to say, no work getting done in the second half today then.
    7/31/2014 8:07:35 AM
  • Winty started poking the transfer fire last night but wasn't around to see it burn...
    7/31/2014 8:08:28 AM
  • Ted, Manc will be interested to know (as am I) that the Express say United are going in with £24m for Carvalho, Directly under this story they say A vidal fee + personal terms have been agreed.
    7/31/2014 8:10:26 AM
  • Am assuming Pogba to Arsenal got done dealio'd last night and we're just waiting for confirmation, right?
    7/31/2014 8:10:35 AM
  • On that basis expect Khedira, Vidal and Di Maria all to move just after 5pm tonight. It's a bloody fix just to throw us all off.
    7/31/2014 8:10:42 AM
  • Apparently Madrid want to do business now instead of losing Khedira for free to Munich. We need a saga, what's the saga?
    7/31/2014 8:10:49 AM
  • I think most gooners would have been over the moon to have signed Khedira a few weeks ago, but now they'll just complain "Why didn't we sign Pogba"
    7/31/2014 8:14:26 AM
  • There was some fanciful talk of Edinson Cavani to Man United yesterday but the man himself insists he's staying at PSG. "Am I sure I will stay? I am sure I am staying, why would I not be? I am good in Paris, under contract and calm. I feel good here. But, as I have already said, it does not only depend on the player. It also depends on the club and what is going on for them."
    7/31/2014 8:15:39 AM
  • Twitter really lost its s**t last night with talk of a fee being agreed for Vidal. Everyone was saying the BBC was reporting it, when in fact it was merely their gossip column regurgitation some guff from caughtoffside.com
    7/31/2014 8:15:48 AM
  • I'm glad Cavani is calm, that makes me calm too. Calm as hindu cows we are.
    7/31/2014 8:23:09 AM
  • If Carvalho goes for £24m can we stop all talk of an English or Premier League premium for transfers? 30 top flight appearances in Portugal and a couple of loan moves to weaker divisions by the age of 22. Crikey.
    7/31/2014 8:23:31 AM
  • I was never convinced by Khedira to Arsenal. A brilliant footballer, definitely, and will improve us. But he is not really a holding midfielder, is he? Also has a questionable injury record (quite risky considering his reported wage demands).
    7/31/2014 8:23:46 AM
  • Carvalho and Vidal would be an absolute treat for the united midfield. Have we cut out any dross yet? Looking at Anderson here.
    7/31/2014 8:23:58 AM
  • Good morning blog, please tell me today is a day full of done dealios, excitement and whimsy, to distract me from the joyous of task of filling ahead of me today!
