  • GIGOR KEEPS HIS COMPOSURE
    Seventh seed
Grigor Dimitrov recovered from losing the opening set to love against David Goffin in their third-round clash to win 0-6 6-3 6-4 6-1. The Bulgarian said ...

He played a great, great first set. Whatever I was trying to do was just not enough. He was taking every ball on the rise, penetrating through the court, coming in, volleys. His game was just too good in the first set. But I didn't let go of my belief, especially coming into that second set. I thought if I kept good composure and if I just stayed there mentally, I knew physically I was able to go the whole five sets. After taking that second set, I knew eventually I was playing my game. He was pushed back a little bit, so he started struggling with his footwork. I took charge of the game."

A first-round juniors match on the Grandstand, the tournament's third-largest court? Yes, when it stars the darling of the US Open - CiCi Bellis. The 15-year-old American upset 12th-seeded Dominika Cibulkova, the Australian Open runner-up, in the first round, but lost in the second round on Thursday, with fans waiting in line for hours to get in to see the match. And just four days after her run in the main draw ended Bellis is back in action and winning. The top-seeded girl in the junior tournament has made a flying start by thumping Renata Zarazua from Mexico 6-1 6-3.

  • DJOKO MAKES BLISTERING START
[break] World No 1 Novak Djokovic seeks his 22nd consecutive grand slam quarter-final berth against German 22nd seed Philipp Kohlschreiber. The last time Djokovic failed to reach the quarter-finals of a major was at Roland Garros in 2009 - when he lost to Kohlschreiber in the third round. The German has given Djokovic plenty to think about in the past, winning the opening set in the past two meetings. Djokovic has made an early double break to take a *4-0 lead in the opening set, despite the unfamiliar surroundings of Louis Armstrong Stadium.

  • FIRST TEST FOR MURRAY
[tennis] Andy Murray faces the first real test of his US Open credentials when he takes on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the fourth round next. Should Murray win, it would be his first victory over a top-10 player since lifting the Wimbledon title last year. The good news is he is back on Arthur Ashe, one of his favourite courts, but Tsonga feels there is not the same fear factor about Murray that there was. Murray has beaten Tsonga in nine of their 11 previous meetings but the Frenchman came out on top when they played each other in Toronto last month. It was Tsonga's first win over his friend since the Australian Open in 2008 and came despite Murray leading 3-0 in the deciding set.
    9/1/2014 6:18:44 PM
  • MURRAY'S ROUTE
[stats] Having struggled in the opening round against Robin Haase, Murray has looked much more assured in his wins against Matthias Bachinger and Andrey Kuznetsov. Tsonga, though, is playing with confidence and so far the ninth seed has looked untroubled en route to the fourth round.

  • MURRAY *1-1 TSONGA
The 2012 US Open winner Murray is already returning some of Tsonga's first serves, which is a good sign. His reaction speed is quite phenomenal against one of the biggest servers of the game. The Frenchman is taken to deuce with the Scot looking very much on his game this afternoon on what's Labor Day in America - a public holiday. However, a 137 mph ace gets Tsonga out of trouble and he eventually holds.

  • MURRAY 2-1* TSONGA
The two-time grand slam winner and Olympic gold medalist holds to love for the second time. He's rushing Tsonga and eating up those short balls for fun.

  • MURRAY *2-2 TSONGA
Tsonga makes his eighth unforced error to hand Murray a 0-30 lead on his next service game. The Scot works the angle for a forehand down the line, but catches the top of the net - 30-30. The Frenchman then nets his return to hand Murray a break point chance. The eighth-seed crashes his forehand into the high part of the net this time - we're at deuce. Murray quickly brings up a second break point, but the British No 1 nets his backhand this time. The 29-year-old from Le Mans in France goes on to hold and we're level.
