Andy Murray gives his assessment after beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets to reach his fourth consecutive quarter-final at the US Open.

Offensively, I played well today," said the 27-year-old. "I kept him on the backfoot as much as possible and I kept him away from the net. I'm glad to come through it because it was tough. I always to take it (the second serve) early. I knew against Jo that it I could take the second serve early I could make him go for more first serves and as you saw in the end there, he went for some huge serves and missed them and served a couple of double faults, which helped."

And looking ahead to his quarter-final showdown against Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic, he said:

We've obviously played a lot of long matches on the hardcourts in the past and I know that if I want to win I'll have to go through a bit of pain to get there, but it's worth it. I'll fight as hard as I can and if I play a good match, I've got a chance."

Sky Sports' Greg Rusedski believes all the questions about Andy Murray's fitness will be answered against world No 1 Novak Djokovic on Wednesday.

When you're not 100% physically against the likes of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, then you're going to end up second best," said the 1997 US Open runner-up. "We're going to find out where's he's really at physically, because he'll be playing some really long and physical points against Djokovic. The questions (about Murray) will finally be answered. Is it mental or physical ... we'll find out."

The first of the women's quarter-final matches is due to start around 5.30pm (BST) with Swiss star Belinda Bencic up against Shuai Peng from China. Over on Louis Armstrong at around the same time, Marin Cilic faces Gilles Simon, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

[tennis] Last night Japan's Kei Nishikori booked a US Open quarter-final berth with a five-set victory over Milos Raonic that equalled the latest-finishing contests in the tournament's history. Nishikori, the 10th seed, defeated the fifth-seeded Canadian 4-6 7-6(4) 6-7(6) 7-5 6-4 and will face Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka for a place in the semi-finals. The 2:26 am (0726 BST) finish equalled the record for the latest at the US Open shared by two prior contests: Philipp Kohlschreiber's 6-4 3-6 4-6 6-3 6-4 third-round win over John Isner on September 3, 2012 and Mats Wilander's 7-6(3) 3-6 1-6 7-6(6) 6-4 win over Swedish compatriot Mikael Pernfors in a second round match in 1993.

Very happy to see a lot of people even at 2:00 in the night," said Nishikori. "I don't even know how they go back home! I'm very happy to play like that."

The epic win helped Nishikori become the first Japanese man since Zenzo Shimidzu in 1922 to get to the last-eight in New York.

Andy Murray feels he is close to hitting top form after an impressive victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga set up a blockbuster US Open quarter-final against Novak Djokovic.

I don't feel like I'm that far away from playing my best tennis. It's still obviously a long way from trying to win the tournament but it's only nine sets now, three matches, and I'll just try and take it one set at a time. I'm maybe five, six days away from potentially winning another grand slam. I
know there is a lot of work to be done between now and then. But I'm putting everything out there on the courts, it's the last slam of the year. I hope I can play well."
