    8/28/2014 8:49:43 PM
Novak Djokovic dropped just four games against Paul-Henri Mathieu as he coasted into the third round of the US Open.

It's very windy but I managed to adjust to the conditions. I managed to play better in the important moments, to stay solid and use my serve with accuracy rather than speed. I'm very happy with my performance overall."

The top seed next plays American Sam Querrey, who upset 28th seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3 6-4 6-4. Querrey's only win in eight previous meetings with Djokovic came at the Masters event in Paris two years ago.

I usually just worry about myself and try to focus on my game and not change up my strategy too much. I'll pretty much just try to serve big and be aggressive and take my chance was some big forehands."

    8/28/2014 8:53:07 PM
American No 1 John Isner was untroubled against Jan-Lennard Struff and he now meets German Philipp Kohlschreiber, who has beaten him at the same stage of the US Open for the past two years.

I wouldn't really call it a problem," said Isner. "I have beaten him more times than he's beaten me overall. But he's beaten me here. I thought our matches the last two years have been pretty high quality. I remember last year I wasn't disappointed with how I played. He just played
better than me. Simple as that. In a few days' time I'm just going to have to try to be better than him."

    8/28/2014 8:55:28 PM
[game-set-match] Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has wasted little time in dispatching Petra Cetkovska, 6-4 6-2. The third seed will take on the winner of the match between Madison Keys and Aleksandra Krunic. 27th-seeded Keys has a crucial break in the deciding set *2-1.

[game-set-match] Big-hitting American Madison Keys loses 7-6(4) 2-6 7-5 to world No 145 Aleksandra Krunic from Serbia. Victory for the promising 21-year-old helps her set up a meeting with two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova.
    8/28/2014 9:53:11 PM
World No 1 Novak Djokovic barely worked up a good sweat on another sizzling day as he strolled past Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-1 6-3 6-0 and into the third round of the year's final grand slam.

"I have nothing to complain about, I wanted to get my job done as quick as possible," said Djokovic. "I don't feel like I need to play long matches to get into the groove. I mean, I feel that I'm hitting the ball very well. Second match even better than the first one. Under the circumstances I think I came up with a very good performance. Stayed mentally tough and did not allow myself to get frustrated because of the wind and conditions that were obviously very tough for both of us."

  • ALMOST TIME  ...
Andy Murray will hope to avoid any drama when he meets little-known German qualifier Matthias Bachinger in the second round at midnight UK time tonight. After the cramp that so badly affected him against Robin Haase on Monday, Murray will no doubt be happy to be playing in the relative cool of the night session in New York.

I feel like I'm playing pretty good tennis and hopefully results will be not too far behind."

He has never played Bachinger before in a professional match, although their paths crossed in the junior ranks. The German world No 235 only found out he had got into qualifying last Monday when he was back home in Munich but won three matches in three days after flying to New York and then beat Radek Stepanek for his first ever grand slam main draw victory. Bachinger, who lost to Britain's James Ward in qualifying here last year, has not dropped more than three games in any set so far.
    8/28/2014 10:05:23 PM

    8/28/2014 10:26:21 PM
Murray's opponent tonight is vastly inexperienced at the grand slam level, having only ever won one main draw match, in the first round against Radek Stepanek here at this year's US Open. His most notable career achievements include three tournament wins on the Challenger circuit and two semi-finals in ATP 250 tournaments. He was a fairly handy junior, however, and even beat Murray before they had both turned professional.

    8/28/2014 10:48:47 PM
[betting]Bachinger's outsider status is reinforced by the betting odds ahead of tonight's clash. The German is available at 6/1 with Sky Bet. who have massive favourite Murray priced at 1/2 to win in straight sets. If you fancy a flutter on some better value Murray bets, such as the correct set score or the sequence of set winners, then head over to Sky Bet.
    8/28/2014 10:55:06 PM
The build up to Murray's match has started on Sky Sports 3 HD and Boris Becker, having put on a jacket for the evening session after another sun-drenched afternoon, does not think the wind will be a major factor in the contest.
The wind has died down a little bit, it's not as swirling as it was this afternoon, which should benefit both players. It's a really pleasant night to play tennis.

    8/28/2014 11:03:37 PM
Annabel Croft believes the fact the evening session crowd is taking a long time to file into Arthur Ashe Stadium may play into the hands of the inexperienced Bachinger.
The question mark is how he's going to cope with coming out here and being on a big stadium court and having a crack at a former champion in Andy Murray. They do know each other, they've known each other since the juniors. It depends how he comes out - at the moment it's not that full out here and that may help Bachinger.

    8/28/2014 11:07:13 PM
Murray had a cramping crisis in his first round match with Robin Haase but managed to make it through and Boris does not think it will have produced any lasting problems.
He's had more than 48 hours to recover. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the first team meeting after that match to see (them discuss) the reasoning behind what was almost a physical breakdown. But I saw him in the locker room before, he looked fit and ready to go so I don't think there are any affects from Monday's match.

    8/28/2014 11:11:23 PM
The two players are now out on the court and have commenced the knock-up. Both looked relaxed heading out onto Arthur Ashe Stadium, with Bachinger saying his main goal is to enjoy the occasion and the "big atmosphere".
    8/28/2014 11:15:49 PM
Both Annabel and Boris cannot see past a straight sets victory for Murray. We are about to start to find out. Murray will serve first.
    8/28/2014 11:20:16 PM
Murray actually goes 15-30 down as he struggles with the wind, even if it has died down slightly. However, he soon finds his rhythm and holds well as Bachinger dumps a forehand into the net.
    8/28/2014 11:24:19 PM
Bachinger looks assured from the baseline as he goes 30-0 up. He then drops a couple of points, included a botched attempt at a serve and volley, but holds on to level things up at the start of the first set.
    8/28/2014 11:26:44 PM
Murray holds to love, although his defences are given a good test by Bachinger's heavy groundstrokes.
    8/28/2014 11:28:45 PM
[markpetchey]Sky Sports commentator Mark Petchey admits he has found it hard to do any scouting on Bachinger, only being able to pore over a couple of You Tube videos.
I've watched him a little bit on You Tube but I haven't seen too much of him to be honest. He looks strong but not necessarily as flexible as you need to be at the highest echelons of this game.

    8/28/2014 11:31:55 PM
Now Bachinger holds to love as his solid start continues.
    8/28/2014 11:32:22 PM
  • Andy Murray is ready to face Matthias Bachinger at midnight

    8/28/2014 11:32:44 PM
Bachinger produces a stunning forehand return winner cross-court but an errant backhand gives the game to Murray. The German is certainly not looking out place against the two-time grand slam winner.
    8/28/2014 11:34:58 PM

  • It's a fairly warm evening in New York but Murray is yet to work up a sweat

    8/28/2014 11:36:21 PM
Bachinger's serve is really clicking into gear as he completes another routine hold, this time to 15, and even pulls off the serve and volley this time, digging one off his shoelaces after a decent attempt at a passing shot by Murray.
    8/28/2014 11:38:28 PM
Murray completes another solid service game as the feeling out process continues. Will Murray make a real move after the change of ends?
    8/28/2014 11:40:58 PM
Greg Rusedski is sitting court-side for Sky Sports and gives his verdict with how things have gone so far.
It's been very interesting because both players are trying to break down each others' forehands. Murray's forehand out wide isn't working so well but he is serving much better. He's had some second serves at 90mph and 98mph so that's a big positive for Murray.
