US Open live!

  • [sunny]It's a glorious day at Flushing Meadows; the sun is out, the sky is blue. Temperatures are expected to peak at 26 degrees Celsius later this afternoon. Good conditions for tennis.

  • On Now:
    A. Ashe: Larsson v Jankovic
    Louis Armtrong: Vinci v Peng
    Grandstand: Monfils v Gonzalez
    #USOpen #SkyTennis

  • [set]Twentieth seed Monfils recovered from an early break down to win the opening set 7-5 against world No 100 Gonzalez in 56 minutes. As ever, Monfils mixed the sublime with the ridiculous but came up trumps when it mattered, breaking in the 11th games and then serving it out. Meanwhile, Jerzy Janowicz prevailed in an first-set tie-break against Kevin Anderson - two giant servers going toe-to-toe on Court 17. There was actually four breaks in that opening set, two apiece, and four aces (all by Anderson). Fourteenth seed Marin Cilic is also a set up, winning a first-set tie-break 7-2 against Illya Marchenko.

  • [game-set-match]JANKOVIC BEATS LARSSON 6-1 6-0
Ninth seed Jankovic is the first winner on day five, marching into the fourth round in 58 minutes for the loss of just one game against Larsson. The Serb will play either sixth seed Angelique Kerber or Belinda Bencic next.
    8/29/2014 4:21:10 PM
  • [game-set-match]PENG BEATS VINCI 6-3 6-4
The first seeded casualty of the day is Vinci. The 28th-seeded Italian went down 6-3 6-4 to China's Peng, who was good value for the win and advances to a fourth-round date with either 14th seed Lucie Safarova or 22nd seed Alize Cornet.
World No 39 Peng reached the fourth round of the US Open for the second time in her career

    8/29/2014 4:27:51 PM
  • Hopefully the next match on Arthur Ashe will be more competitive than the Jankovic-Larsson opener. Former champion Venus Williams is up against Sara Errani, who is seeded 13th compared to Venus' 19th. Williams has won all three previous meetings without dropping a set but the most recent of those was in 2012.
    8/29/2014 4:31:12 PM
  • [set]Ito has hit back to level at one-set all against Lopez on Court Five. The Japanese player, who is ranked 126 in the world, broke 19th seed Lopez twice to take it 6-3.

    8/29/2014 4:41:42 PM
    8/29/2014 4:45:32 PM
  • [set]Monfils moves two sets up against Gonzalez, 7-5 6-3, and is now well on course for a third-round meeting with either French compatriot Richard Gasquet or Italy's Paolo Lorenzi. Monfils' best run at the US Open was a quarter-final appearance in 2010. Cilic, the 14th seed, is also two sets up on Marchenko, 7-6 6-2. But Janowicz and Anderson - who are both 6ft 8 in - are level at one-set all after the South African took the second set 6-2 in 33 minutes. Janowicz is still yet to hit an ace, while Anderson has sent down eight of them.
    8/29/2014 4:53:59 PM
  • [break]Seventh seed Grigor Dimitrov's second-round match against Dudi Sela is under way on Louis Armstrong. Dimitrov is an early break up, leading 3-0 in the opening set.
    8/29/2014 4:57:16 PM
  • Second set Monfils! He's now looking in control. Can Gonzalez trouble the Frenchman in the 3rd? #USOpen #SkyTennis

  • [game-set-match]MONFILS BEATS GONZALEZ 7-5 6-3 6-2
Monfils came on strong after a slow start in the opening set and, in the end, ran out a comfortable straight-sets winner against Gonzalez in two hours and seven minutes. The French crowd pleaser could take on compatriot Richard Gasquet in the third round, if 12th seed Gasquet can see off Paolo Lorenzi later today.
    8/29/2014 5:23:51 PM
  • [break]Errani has made a storming start against Venus on Arthur Ashe. The Italian is a double break up, leading 3-0 in the opening set.

Janowicz was delighted after winning the first set tie-break but has since lost the next two sets against Anderson

    8/29/2014 5:31:52 PM
  • [stats]Second seed Simona Halep is up against Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in the third round on Grandstand. The last time Lucic-Baroni made the fourth round of a grand slam? That would Wimbledon in 1999 when she reached the semi-finals as a 17-year-old.
    8/29/2014 5:35:17 PM
  • [injury]Going from bad to worse for Sela against Dimitrov on Louis Armstrong. He's a set and a break down and has just needed a visit from the trainer to have some strapping applied to the fingers on his right hand.
    8/29/2014 5:36:10 PM
  • [set]Errani, who is giving away nine inches in height, has just taken the opening set 6-0 against a totally out-of-sorts Venus Williams on Arthur Ashe. That took 26 minutes and featured 18 unforced errors from Venus. Errani had not even taken a set off the American - champion here in 2000 and 2001 - in three previous meetings.

    8/29/2014 5:42:34 PM
  • [game-set-match]ANDERSON BEATS JANOWICZ 6-7 6-2 6-1 6-3
Anderson has broken Janowicz's serve eight times on the way to a four-set win in the second round. The 18th-seeded South African goes through to a third-round meeting with either 14th seed Marin Cilic or Illya Marchenko. Cilic is two sets and a break up so, barring a big turnaround it will be him.
    8/29/2014 5:46:28 PM

    8/29/2014 5:55:25 PM
  • [game-set-match]CILIC BEATS MARCHENKO 7-6 6-2 6-4
