I think for the first day he was a bit like 'why is everyone coming for me?' He made a remark after the game, conversations happen and the end result was the end result.

  • SMALLING STORM [manchesterunited]
Hot-footing it up to Manchester and after Chris Smalling apologised for an ill-advised fancy dress costume earlier this week, manager David Moyes has also attempted to draw a line under the incident.

Carrick has targeted Manchester United's Saturday Night Football clash with Swansea to kickstart a surge up the table...
It’s not easy, it’s been a difficult time, to cope with the results but that’s part of the job, we need to get on with it, pick ourselves up. We still believe we can go on a good game of runs, starting tomorrow, it’s a huge game and one we’re looking forward to. We have to relish this challenge and when things aren’t going well that’s when you really find what you’re really about so it’s a good test for us.

Next up on Weekend Warm-Up was Stoke striker Peter Crouch. He showered praise on Moroccan winger Oussama Assaidi insisting the midfielder is a real box of tricks in training and on a matchday.
He’s up there, he’s a fantastic player, when he gets the ball you see some fantastic tricks. On the training ground you see some things where he gets you up out of your chair, the fans love him, some of the goals he’s scored have been spectacular. He’s always a danger so it’s good to have someone like that with a box of tricks who can surprise the opposition

There's a big Yorkshire derby to kick off Saturday's schedule, with struggling Sheffield Wednesday hosting play-off chasers Leeds at Hillsborough from midday on Sky Sports 1. Brian McDermott and his team are holed up in a Sheffield hotel ready for an early night but the Whites boss put his cocoa on hold to give us a few pre-match thoughts.
We didn't have a good result against Rochdale in the FA Cup and we'll use that as a driver, starting tomorrow. We've brought two players into the squad - Jimmy Kebe and Cameron Stewart - who we think can make a big difference. We really needed that width to stretch teams. We have to start right tomorrow. It will be a great atmosphere and I for one can't wait to get going.

  • 'RIGHT MOVE' FOR WELLS [huddersfield]
Our man Bryn Law has made a quick dash to west Yorkshire to find out why Nahki Wells - tipped for a move to the Premier League - has opted for the Terriers.
It might surprise a few people but I thought it was the right move for my football career, to learn my trade in the Championship. I see Huddersfield moving in the right direction. It can be a great platform to get to the Premier League.

  • GERRARD WOULD TAKE 4TH [liverpool]
Geoff Shreeves spoke to the Liverpool & England captain. Despite being mentioned as title contenders Gerrard said he would take 4th right now if he was offered it.

I’ll tell you the reason why..because we’ve been out of the Champions League for so long. To have that chance to play a couple of qualifiers against sides you know you should beat, the chance to get Champions League football back here at Anfield, I’d bite your hand off for it. But I am confident we can finish higher than fourth.

Gerrard: I'll take 4th right now

  • NASRI EYES RECORD [manchestercity]
A rather dapper-looking Samir Nasri - dressed in a hip leather jacket -  discussed Manchester City's prospects this season on Weekend Warm-Up. City have scored 57 goals so far and Nasri is confident they can beat the Premier League record tally of 103 goals set by Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea in the 2009/2010 campaign.
I think we are going to score way more and beat the record

Nasri insists Chelsea's 103 goal haul in 2010 is within reach for Manchester City this season
