  • Teams are in the tunnel. Let's hope this lives up the entertainment on the south coast this afternoon
    12/22/2013 3:55:52 PM
  • 12/22/2013 3:59:51 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON
Swansea get us going at the Liberty and both keeps get an early touch of the ball courtesy of a couple of errant through balls
    12/22/2013 4:01:34 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON
Shelvey is causing havoc all over the shop. First he whips in a cross from the right that Coleman should deal with, but doesn't, but Routledge is unable to capitalise as he's wrong-footed by Coleman's error. The former Palace and Spurs man then slices horribly wide from 10 yards from Shelvey's cutback from the left. Very bright start by the hosts
    12/22/2013 4:04:06 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON[everton]
Very open out there. Everton enjoying their first spell of possession, albeit while being kept at arms length by a hard-working home side

  • [cardiff]BREAKING NEWS
Word coming in from Cardiff, and it appears Malky Mackay will still be in a job this Christmas. City chairman Mehmet Dalman, quoted on the BBC website, says Mackay will be "in charge for the foreseeable future"

    12/22/2013 4:09:43 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON [save]
Everton just starting to get on top here, relentlessly closing down Swansea, who are struggling to get out of their own half. Mirallas weaves into the box and his shot is well held at the near post by Tremmel
    12/22/2013 4:14:25 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON
Pienaar is afforded a free header in a crowded area, but it's straight at the Swansea keeper
    12/22/2013 4:15:24 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON [swansea]
Tidy build-up by Swansea and Bony feeds Routledge from the edge of the box but Distin does well to step in and shepherd the ball back to safety
    12/22/2013 4:18:32 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON [swansea]
De Guzman tumbles just outside the area, but no dice, referee waves play on. He slipped as he turned and jumped straight back up without looking for a foul, to be fair to the Swansea man.
    12/22/2013 4:20:50 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON [everton]
Chico Flores gives the ball away and hands Mirallas a brilliant chance. He can lay it off to either Pienaar or Lukaku for an easy finish, but he opts to shoot and Williams does well to get in and block
    12/22/2013 4:22:46 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON
Barkley tumbles under a Williams challenge in the area, but there are no appeals for a penalty and Everton settle for a corner. The ball might have already been out of play when the tackle came in
    12/22/2013 4:24:55 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON [swansea]
Ball drops to Routledge 25 yards out but he drags his shot wide as Swansea get a rare sight of Tim Howard's goal
    12/22/2013 4:27:03 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON[everton]
Everton have been impressive as the away team here and look comfortable, but we're yet to see a clear-cut chance from the visitors.
    12/22/2013 4:29:57 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON
Routledge does well to stay onside and pick up Davies through ball. He cuts back and crosses for Bony, but the ball is delivered to the far post as Bony runs near post.
    12/22/2013 4:31:28 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON [swansea]
More good running from Routledge, driving at the centre of the Everton defence before finding Bony with a reverse ball, but the shot is wild. Much better from the hosts though...
    12/22/2013 4:32:22 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON
Second wind for Swansea having resisted Everton's early pressure and the crowd are responding...
    12/22/2013 4:34:47 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON [swansea]
A messy few minutes. Everton have dropped off, but Swansea struggling to capitalise. They do, however, win their first corner...

...but it comes to nothing as Distin heads clear at the near post
    12/22/2013 4:41:52 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON
Half-time approaching and both managers have plenty to ponder in the break because chances have been at an absolute premium. It's been pretty in patches, but frustrating, frankly.
    12/22/2013 4:45:27 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON
Hernandez cuts in from the right, but his shot is high and wide
    12/22/2013 4:46:07 PM
  • [half-time]SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON
That's half-time and these two sides have passed each other to death, to no effect. It's like a chess match and the two managers have 15 minutes to find a decisive end game

    12/22/2013 4:56:57 PM

  • The best chance of the first-half as Mirallas' shot is blocked by Williams with two much better options either side of him

    12/22/2013 4:58:54 PM
  • Coming up, some quotes from Tim Sherwood on his debut win as a Premier League manager. Spurs beat Southampton 3-2 earlier today on the south coast...

  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON
We're under way in the second-half. Surely the next 45 minutes can only be better than the first?
    12/22/2013 5:02:00 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON
Early chance for Swansea in the second-half as Hernandez swings in a free-kick from the right, but it's just about dealt with and Swansea are forced to work it all the back to their keeper.
    12/22/2013 5:03:17 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON [everton]
Looks like Martinez is going to make the first move to change things. He's chatting to Osman on the touchline
    12/22/2013 5:05:29 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON
Barkley robs de Guzman, feeds Mirallas, but his low cross lacks power and Tremmel can drop his hat on it
    12/22/2013 5:08:25 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON [everton]
Here come Everton, building up some pressure and Swansea are penned in for now. Pienaar is furious at Lukaku for shooting from 20 yards instead of passing. The South African then shoots wide in frustration himself.
    12/22/2013 5:10:14 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON [missed-chance]
Finally a chance and Ross Barkley makes an absolute mess of it, falling over his own feet as he prepares to shoot with only the keeper to beat. It was Pienaar who found him in acres of space, but it was like he had his shoelaces tied together.
    12/22/2013 5:13:12 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON
Superb run from Coleman, who has been Everton's one spark, as he weaves into the box and wins a corner. Lukaku wins the header, but Swansea hack clear
    12/22/2013 5:14:36 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON [everton]
Some head tennis in the Swansea area and Barry almost breaks the deadlock with an improvised, hooked effort over his shoulder, but the ball loops over the bar
    12/22/2013 5:19:39 PM
  • SWANSEA 0-0 EVERTON [save]
That's more like it! Barkley drives forward from half-way and drills in a shot from 20 yards which Tremmel tips onto the bar. Swansea wobbling...
    12/22/2013 5:21:50 PM
  • [goal]SWANSEA 0-1 EVERTON
A Coleman rocket from 25 yards flies into the back of the net. Stunning strike from the right-back and the game finally has the goal it desperately needed. An absolute whizzbanger from Coleman.
    12/22/2013 5:22:41 PM
  • [goal]SWANSEA 1-1 EVERTON
From nothing, Swansea are level as Tiendalli beats a static Pienaar at the far post and meets a cross from the left. His shot deflects off Ovideo and past Howard.
    12/22/2013 5:26:57 PM
  • SWANSEA 1-1 EVERTON [swansea]
Tiendalli's prod was going wide so that will probably go down as an Oviedo own goal. Poor defending from Pienaar though.
    12/22/2013 5:29:49 PM
  • [substitution]SWANSEA 1-1 EVERTON
Vazquez replaces Bony for Swansea, 15 minutes to go...
    12/22/2013 5:31:57 PM
  • SWANSEA 1-1 EVERTON [substitution]
Pienaar is on the floor in pain, clutching his hip. He's going to hobble off and Everton are going to make two changes. Pienaar makes way for Naismith while Osman comes on for Mirallas.
    12/22/2013 5:34:08 PM
  • SWANSEA 1-1 EVERTON
Alvaro breaks the offside trap, much to his evident surprise, and his shot is subsequently awful, chipping straight into the hands of Howard
    12/22/2013 5:38:32 PM
  • SWANSEA 1-1 EVERTON [yellow-card]
Davies carded for a cynical block on McCarthy - the the first of the game
    12/22/2013 5:39:17 PM
  • SWANSEA 1-2 EVERTON [goal]
What a goal from Barkley! After that embarrassing stumble earlier, he curls a delicious free-kick over the wall from 25 yards and in off the underside of the bar. Davies' rash challenge is heavily punished
    12/22/2013 5:41:13 PM
  • SKY BET ODDS
Swansea are now out to 40/1 to win and 7/1 to salvage a draw, with Barkley 33/1 to add to that stunner by scoring next.
    Bet in-play here.
    12/22/2013 5:42:18 PM
  • [save] SWANSEA 1-2 EVERTON
Fine reaction stop from Howard from Hernandez's fierce drive preserves Everton's lead.
    12/22/2013 5:43:20 PM
  • [save] SWANSEA 1-2 EVERTON
Barkley concedes a free-kick level with the penalty spot, but Barry heads clear. The ball eventually falls to Lamah 25 yards out and his volley is clawed over by Howard. Fine effort.
    12/22/2013 5:47:44 PM
  • [full-time] SWANSEA 1-2 EVERTON
That's it. Barkley's wonderful free-kick has earned Everton the points and sent them into the top four for Christmas.
    12/22/2013 5:50:42 PM
  • [jamieredknapp]Jamie is full of praise for Ross Barkley in the studio...
He's a sensational footballer. Players like him don't come along very often. He is different class. He's got one of the most ferocious shots off either foot that I've seen in a long time.

    12/22/2013 6:01:58 PM
  • [glennhoddle]Glenn is thinking of England...
With him (Barkley) and Adam Lallana and Jack Wilshere, England have a lot of talent in that midfield for the next few years

    12/22/2013 6:03:27 PM
  • [swansea]Michael Laudrup cut a very disconsolate figure after the game and felt the result was harsh on his Swansea side.
We didn't deserve to lose this game, conceding such a late goal at the moment when I think Everton would have been happy with the draw. They had made two changes to take the draw. It was harsh.

  • [everton]Roberto Martinez revels in Everton's win in Wales...
For us to show the desire and discipline to win the game like that is very pleasing. We have a real nice blend in the squad, but what pleases me is everyone is prepared to work really hard for the team.

    12/22/2013 6:15:21 PM
  • Well that concludes an exciting afternoon of Premier League football. We've had eight goals and two away wins as Spurs handed Tim Sherwood a victory in his first game as Premier League manager with a 3-2 win at Southampton and Ross Barkley then secured a 2-1 win for Everton at Swansea with a brilliant late free-kick.

Everton end the day in fourth, with Spurs in seventh, but only six points back from leaders Liverpool. Join us tomorrow night for what promises to be a barnstorming affair at the Emirates as Arsenal host Chelsea Chelsea in Monday Night Football.

Thanks for joining us and have a fantastic evening...
