Weekend Live! (21 -23 March)

  • 3/23/2014 2:38:09 PM
  • SPURS 2-2 SOUTHAMPTON
Now Lovren's down in the box after colliding with team-mate Cork. This has more than a hint of Saints' 2-2 draw at Sunderland about it: 2-0 up; 2-1 at the break; 2-2 in the second half; Lovren injured...although it looks like Lovren will carry on here, at least
    3/23/2014 2:39:34 PM
  • SPURS 2-2 SOUTHAMPTON
Saints' passing lacking the composure of that dreamy opening half hour, which seems some way away now as Spurs apply the pressure. Soldado's looking very sharp for the home side, despite a lack of shooting opportunity so far
    3/23/2014 2:43:09 PM
  • SPURS 2-2 SOUTHAMPTON
Here is a shooting chance for Chadli, but the angle is getting worse by the second and in the end his effort is off target. Boruc helps it behind for a corner, nonetheless, but Spurs make little of it
    3/23/2014 2:44:52 PM
  • SPURS 2-2 SOUTHAMPTON
All Spurs at the minute and Eriksen is sniffing out a hat-trick, He's free in the box, but Sigurdsson's pass is slightly sluggish and the goalscorer can only pull a shot into the side-netting as he reaches for the ball
    3/23/2014 2:47:09 PM
  • SPURS 2-2 SOUTHAMPTON
Lovren's not enjoying himself against Soldado and resorts to a shove in the back as Soldado attempts to spin away just inside Saints' half. In the book
    3/23/2014 2:48:46 PM
  • SPURS 2-2 SOUTHAMPTON SUB![substitution]
Lovren looks a candidate for coming off at the minute, but Pochettino instead opts to change things further forward as he hooks Rodriguez for Ramirez
    3/23/2014 2:51:46 PM
  • SPURS 2-2 SOUTHAMPTON
Ramirez's first contribution is an inswinging free-kick from the right. Lovren gets half a yard on his marker but can't make clean contact at  the near post
    3/23/2014 2:54:37 PM
  • SPURS 2-2 SOUTHAMPTON
Chadli belts a cross against Shaw - standing a yard away - and sticks his arm up looking for a penalty only to concede a free-kick as the ball rebounds against him. Suitably sheepish, he trots back into position
    3/23/2014 2:56:34 PM
  • 3/23/2014 2:57:28 PM
  • SPURS 2-2 SOUTHAMPTON CHANCE![tottenham]
Eriksen is carrying a real threat from Spurs' left, and he makes another bolt for the middle as Kaboul spots the run and delivers his best quarterback ball. Eriksen's first touch isn't the worst, but his second sends a volley into an orbit last occupied by a Chris Waddle penalty-kick...

  • [flag] A VILLA 1-0 STOKE
The Potters are finally stirred into an attack themselves but Peter Odemwingie delays a pass to Marko Arnautovic and the Austrian is flagged offside.

  • [astonvilla]A VILLA 1-0 STOKE
Gabriel Agbonlahor runs at the away defence and Ryan Shawcross is forced to hack clear. Villa looking impressive here with their goalkeeper Brad Guzan all but a bystander!
    3/23/2014 4:19:50 PM
  • [stoke]A VILLA 1-0 STOKE
But Odemwingie fashions a chance on Guzan's goal but his fierce shot is deflected over. The corner comes to nothing though and Villa go on the offensive again.
    3/23/2014 4:21:21 PM
  • [goal]STOKE GOAL! A VILLA 1-1 STOKE (Odemwingie 22)
Peter Crouch flicks on for Odemwingie to coolly chest down and slot past Guzan. The game at Villa Park has taken off where the White Hart Lane thriller left off! The former West Brom forward's strike somewhat against the run of play.
    3/23/2014 4:22:16 PM
  • [yellow-card]A VILLA 1-1 STOKE
Wilson Palacios first player in Mark Clattenburg's book for hacking down Villa goalscorer Benteke.
    3/23/2014 4:25:18 PM
  • [goal]STOKE GOAL! A VILLA 1-2 STOKE (Crouch 26)
Potters left-back Erik Pieters gets behind the Villa defence way too easily and cuts back for Crouch to slot past one of his former teams. It's gone goal crazy in Aston.

  • [stoke]CROUCH PLEASED
Niall Quinn's man of the match, Peter Crouch, against one of his former clubs was happy his side had fought back from an early 1-0 deficit

Earlier in the season we may have collapsed but we didn't today. I thought we controlled pretty much the majority of the game after their goal.

  • [astonvilla]LAMBERT LOW
Villa boss Paul Lambert admitted they were beaten by much the better side in Stoke in the 4-1 home defeat.

We were second best, that wasn't good enough. We got off to a good start, going ahead after five minutes. Ok we lost a couple to injury but that wasn't good enough.

  • [stoke]HUGHES HAPPY
Potters boss Mark Hughes happy that his club's 4-1 win at Villa Park has effectively ensured Premier League survival for another season

Today was a culmination of a lot of hard work by the coaches and the players. They deserve the credit with the commitment and application they've shown. I always felt we'd be stronger in the second half of the season. We're enjoying it, we've got seven games to go and want to finish with a flourish.

Wolves top of the perch after beating in-form Sheffield United

    3/23/2014 6:27:34 PM
  • REAL 0-1 BARCELONA [missed-chance]
Wonderful shoulder-dipping, hip-swaying run from Di Maria, who cuts back from Benzemam only for the Frenchman, leaning back, to lift horribly high.

    3/23/2014 8:16:08 PM
  • REAL 0-1 BARCELONA [barcelona]
Messi's through here as Barca break again but - oh! - he drags a left-footed shot wide. Real think he's offside but replays show he'd timed his run just right.
    3/23/2014 8:17:22 PM
  • REAL 0-1 BARCELONA [realmadrid]
Ronaldo latches onto a loose ball and tries his luck from range but despite taking an awkward bounce in front of Valdes, there's no real danger.
    3/23/2014 8:19:56 PM
  • GOAL! REAL 1-1 BARCELONA (Benzema 20) [goal]
Di Maria has made a storming start but the jump from Benzema is brilliant. Valdes gets his hands to it but can't keep it from crossing the line. What a start!
    3/23/2014 8:21:34 PM
  • Benzema rises to nod Real Madrid level.

    3/23/2014 8:23:18 PM
  • Victor Valdes's attempt to parry that Benzema header was in vain.

    3/23/2014 8:23:52 PM
  • GOAL! REAL 2-1 BARCELONA (Benzema 24) [goal]
Oof! Talk about living up to its billing! After missing an early sitter, Benzema has a second! He does superbly to sort out his feet and control a Di Maria ball on his thigh, before lashing past Valdes.
    3/23/2014 8:24:49 PM
  • It's two goals in five minutes from Benzema...

  • REAL 2-1 BARCELONA [realmadrid]
Amid that goalfest, I didn't get chance to tell you that, rather bizarrely, Angel Di Maria had stayed down on the turf after joining in the goal celebrations for Benzema's face. He went off for some sort of treatment, only to come back on and set up that second.
    3/23/2014 8:33:45 PM
  • REAL 2-1 BARCELONA [realmadrid]
Benzema should have had his hat-trick - Di Maria again with another dangerous delivery from the left - but Pique's on the line and makes a dramatic intervention. Moments later, the hosts wants a penalty for a Fabregas handball but nothing doing. Breathless stuff.

  • THAT'S A WEEKEND WRAP [football]
Can every weekend be like this (ok, perhaps not, Arsenal fans)? The Premier League has given us a stonking 42 goals - only bettered by the 43 back in February 2011 - and we've had a seven-goal Clasico to go utterly gooey for. We'll do it all again in less than 48 hours because six top-flight sides are in action on Tuesday - not least the Manchester pair, live on Sky Sports. On Wednesday, Liverpool will try to keep pace when they take on Sunderland in front of our cameras and we'll have more live action from La Liga with tonight's rivals - plus Atletico. If that's not enough, Celtic could wrap up the Scottish Premiership title at Partick Thistle. We'll look back and ahead in the morning when our Sky Sports Today blog returns. Join us then - and thanks for reading.
