  • [westham]How about this for a picture? England's last World Cup-winning centre-forward and...their next? At the moment Andy Carroll would probably settle for a place on the plane to Brazil, but we can all dream...

    3/14/2014 5:21:24 PM
  • [stoke]Carroll and West Ham will be at Stoke on Saturday, and for those who missed it earlier here's the full story on Robert Huth, whose season is over after a second knee operation

  • [bn]ANELKA CALLS TIME?
Nicolas Anelka has made a statement on Twitter which appears to signal the end of his West Brom career. Stay tuned...

  • [westbrom]
    3/14/2014 5:49:50 PM
  • [westbrom]For those non Francophones among you, those Tweets roughly translate as this...

Following discussions between me and the club, a proposition has been made that I rejoin the squad under certain conditions I cannot accept. So to protect my integrity I have decided to terminate my contract which ties me to West Brom until 2014. Now.

  • [westbrom]ANELKA LATEST
Anyone who needs reminding of the context to this Anelka story, it's all here for you. Have we seen the last of the enigmatic Frenchman in England? Well, he's left and returned to the Premier League three times in the past, so watch this space...
    3/14/2014 6:04:38 PM
  • WEEKEND WARM-UP[chelsea]
Right, on to Weekend Warm-Up we go, and Anelka's former Chelsea team-mate Petr Cech is talking to Sky Sports News about the good form which has taken them seven points clear at the top of the Premier League. It all sounds pretty ominous for the club's title rivals...

We’ve been doing really well and we’ve tried to carry the
momentum from Christmas where we did really well.
Once you get in the mood and
confident and the tranquillity of the momentum,
you concentrate on the game and
have no distractions and everything seems to keep going.

    3/14/2014 6:08:58 PM
  • WEEKEND WARM-UP
Next up is Sol Campbell, who has been telling Geoff Shreeves all about his reasons for writing a book...

I thought it was the perfect time for me to reflect back on my career. When I was playing I was just concentrating on playing football, sometimes in life you don’t want to give too much away, you want to keep things together and concentrate on your game and concentrate on what you’ve got to do to be successful, and I’m in a different place now.

    3/14/2014 6:23:15 PM
  • WEEKEND WARM-UP[tottenham]
Sol opens up about the acrimony his cross-town move from Tottenham to Arsenal caused when he jumped ship back in 2001...

To the Spurs fans who maybe have a little bit more warmth for me I'd apologise for the way it happened, but I'm not going to apologise for the move

    3/14/2014 6:35:26 PM
  • WEEKEND WARM-UP[tottenham]
And there is more from Campbell on the circumstances surrounding his departure. Some Spurs fans still resent the way he walked out at the end of a contract, denying the club even a fee. Here's Sol's version of events...

I tried to move the club on. Even in the last knockings of the contract talks I said 'here's a contract'. I gave them a four-year contract with a one-year break clause, and I said 'I'll give you one more year at this rate' Basically, I'm saying if they can pay me this maybe they can bring in other guys like me on this kind of rate, to move the club on.

    3/14/2014 6:49:28 PM
  • NORTH LONDON DERBY
What do you make of that then, Spurs fans? Can we expect to hear Sol's name being sung by either set of supporters at White Hart Lane this Sunday? And how will the game go? Here's what Jamie Redknapp thinks...

    3/14/2014 6:55:17 PM
  • [arsenal]Where Sol Campbell once stood at the heart of Arsenal's defence, Per Mertesacker now stands a couple of inches taller. The Germany defender has become a real crowd favourite at the Emirates - helped by a couple of goals against the old enemy. Big Per has been telling us Arsenal's title chances are not over yet...

We have two competitions left and if we can manage to finish like last year with strong performances I think we have a good chance to compete in both competitions until the end. No we can’t afford to lose any, these are all decisive games. There are no points to drop anymore. Vital games and we are really up for it.

    3/14/2014 7:08:35 PM
  • [newcastle]WEEKEND WARM-UP
Elsewhere in the Premier League this weekend, Newcastle go to Fulham without their manager Alan Pardew, whose seven-match stadium ban begins. John Carver steps into Pardew's shoes, and Dutch forward Luuk de Jong tells Weekend Warm-Up he doesn't foresee a problem...

We're professional as a team. You sometimes need a manager to make a decision, but John is capable of that and it will be no problem for us

    3/14/2014 7:30:25 PM
  • [swansea]WEEKEND WARM-UP
Garry Monk's fledgling managerial career continues in south Wales as Swansea welcome West Brom. Monk has gone from stalwart centre-half to club manager and proud father of twins in the past few weeks. Try summing that up...

It's been probably the most bizarre month of my life

    3/14/2014 7:36:27 PM
  • [westbrom]ANELKA UPDATE
And on it goes...if you thought Nicolas Anelka's pretty definitive 'I quit' statement earlier marked the end of the 'quenelle' affair, then have another think. West Brom have now issued a statement of their own. Here's a sample...

The club notes Nicolas Anelka’s comments on Twitter this evening (Friday). However, the club has received nothing formally regarding the termination of Nicolas Anelka’s contract from either him or his advisers. The club regards the release of such a statement on Social Media as highly unprofessional and will make a further statement when appropriate.

    3/14/2014 7:50:18 PM
  • THAT'S ALL FOLKS
So another weekend arrives with the Anelka situation unresolved, and that's where we'll leave it for tonight. Join us again tomorrow, when we'll have build-up to and coverage of the days' football. Until then, thanks for reading...
