  • [mondaynightfootball] Tony Pulis is set to have a full squad available when Crystal Palace host Liverpool in the Premier League in Monday Night Football's 8pm kick-off. Midfield dynamo Kagisho Dikgacoi missed last Sunday's 2-0 defeat against Manchester City but Pulis is optimistic all his players will be fit for the clash at Selhurst Park.
    5/2/2014 10:09:46 AM
  • [cardiff] Cardiff will be without suspended defender Juan Cala when they continue their fight for Premier League survival at Newcastle on Saturday. Cala was sent off during last weekend's damaging 4-0 defeat against Sunderland that sent Cardiff bottom of the league with just two games left. Ben Turner is expected to take over from Cala as the Bluebirds target a win that would at least give them a fighting chance of avoiding the drop.

Gibbs has been sidelined with an ankle problem while Wilshere has been out for almost two months after a foot injury sustained during England's friendly against Denmark.
Kieran Gibbs is very very close now (to returning from injury) and Jack Wilshere is not far away as well. They are both very close to being integrated back into training again.

  • UPS AND DOWNS - Premier League.
    • Arsenal will be assured of fourth place and Champions League football by beating West Brom on Sunday or by matching Everton's result against Manchester City.
    • Cardiff will be relegated if they fail to beat Newcastle and both Norwich (v Chelsea) and Sunderland (v Manchester United) win. Fulham will also go down if they lose at Stoke and Norwich and Sunderland pick up maximum points.
    • Victories for Cardiff and Fulham would see them climb out of the bottom three if Norwich and Sunderland lose. [football]
    5/2/2014 12:10:19 PM
  • UPS AND DOWNS - Sky Bet Championship.

    • Leicester are champions and Burnley are promoted.
    • Derby, QPR and Wigan are in the play-offs and will be joined by Reading if they beat Burnley on the last day of the season. Defeat or a draw for the Royals would allow Brighton to move above them if the Seagulls win, while a defeat for Reading could also open the door for Blackburn to climb above them, although they would need to win with a goal difference swing of seven in their favour.
    • Yeovil and Barnsley are relegated.
    • Birmingham will go down with a defeat at Bolton. A draw coupled with a loss for Doncaster at Leicester would see the Blues avoid the drop on goal difference. Millwall and Blackpool are not mathematically safe either. [fl72]
    5/2/2014 12:14:03 PM
  • UPS AND DOWNS - Sky Bet League 1.
    • Wolves are champions and Brentford are promoted.
    • Preston, Leyton Orient, Rotherham and Peterborough are in the play-offs.
    • Stevenage and Shrewsbury are relegated.
    • Carlisle must win to stay up but are also relying on Crewe to lose with a goal difference swing of four required. Tranmere need a victory and must hope Crewe do not win.
    • Notts County can also go down if they lose and both Tranmere and Crewe pick up three points. Colchester are not mathematically safe but it would require an astonishing set of results to drag them into trouble. [fl72]
    5/2/2014 12:19:02 PM
  • UPS AND DOWNS - Sky Bet League 2.
    • Rochdale, Scunthorpe and Chesterfield have achieved promotion with all three in the running to win the title.
    • Fleetwood, Burton, York and Southend are in the play-offs.
    • Torquay are relegated. Wycombe are three points behind third-bottom Northampton and Bristol Rovers in 21st and need to win - and for the Cobblers and/or Rovers to lose - if they are to survive on goal difference. [fl72]
    5/2/2014 12:21:56 PM
  • [chelsea] Frank Lampard, John Obi Mikel, Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah are available again as Chelsea return to Premier League duty in Super Sunday's clash with Norwich, which is live on Sky Sports 1HD (4pm). The quartet missed the Champions League semi-final exit to Atletico Madrid - Lampard and Mikel were suspended, Matic and Salah ineligible - while Ramires serves the second of his four-match ban. Captain John Terry (ankle), Eden Hazard (calf) and Samuel Eto'o (knee) featured against Atletico despite recent injuries, while Oscar (hip) was on the bench, with all four fitness concerns and goalkeeper Petr Cech (shoulder) out.
    5/2/2014 12:29:41 PM
  • [saturdaynightfootball] Playmaker David Silva could return for title favourites Manchester City's crucial Premier League trip to Everton (Saturday, 5.30pm, SS1HD). The Spaniard missed last weekend's win at Crystal Palace after being carried off on a stretcher with an ankle injury in the previous game against West Brom but has now recovered. Winger Jesus Navas has missed the last three games with an ankle injury. Matija Nastasic is back in full training after three months out with a knee injury but is not match-fit.
    5/2/2014 12:35:03 PM
  • [hull] Hull City manager Steve Bruce has admitted he would be satisfied with a dour goalless draw at fellow strugglers Aston Villa on Saturday.
A dull 0-0 will do me on Saturday. Last time against Villa was an awful affair. Me and (Villa boss) Paul Lambert both said it was arguably the worst game we'd seen in a long time. This one must be better because it couldn't be much worse.

  • [liverpool] Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Liverpool will check on the fitness of Daniel Sturridge ahead of the Monday Night Football clash with Crystal Palace (Live on Sky Sports 1HD from 7pm) at Selhurst Park:
We'll see over the next 48 hours. He hadn't trained since he got injured in the game against Manchester City, so it was a bit much against Chelsea. He had worked really hard to get back and we needed something on the bench that could support us and help us in the game but unfortunately, it wasn't to be.

  • [twitter] So it turns out that Southampton won't be the only Premier League side with an extravagant pitch design this weekend...

  • [stoke] Stoke City boss Mark Hughes is stepping up his efforts to bring Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi to the club on a permanent basis after impressing during his season-long loan spell:
We like Ossie and if we could come to an arrangement with Liverpool we would like to bring him here. He's a valuable player and I think Liverpool recognise that. I think there's been tentative enquiries but nothing concrete yet. He's done really well here. It's certainly helped him and Ossie's certainly helped us.

  • [tottenham] Here's the story from earlier that Tim Sherwood has admitted he does not know whether he has a future at Tottenham following reports that he is set to be replaced in the summer:
I'm not sure if it makes it untenable. We play West Ham and then we play at home to Aston Villa. After that I will sit down with the chairman and we'll decide what the plan is moving forward. And then we'll see if it's untenable or not.

    5/2/2014 3:21:00 PM
  • [chelsea] And more from Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho who says he will be looking to bring in two big-name players this summer - but refused to confirm his interest in Diego Costa:
We are going to do, I would say, a couple of critical signings. Is a striker a target for us? Yes. Is Diego (Costa) a good player? Yes, he is but he's an Atletico Madrid player so I cannot say much.

    5/2/2014 3:28:00 PM
  • [liverpool] Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been speaking to the media today ahead of the Monday Night Football clash with Crystal Palace, and he says that he congratulated Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho after last weekend's defeat at Anfield:

  • DAY OF DRAMA
Manchester City could take a huge step towards winning the Premier League title today by beating Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday Night Football later - but first, Football League sides will see their fate sealed on the final day of their season.

  • CHAMPIONSHIP UPS
Leicester have sealed the title and Burnley have confirmed second. Derby, QPR and Wigan have also booked their place in the play-offs.

However, Reading (70pts), Brighton (69pts) and Blackburn (67pts) can still snatch sixth (although Rovers' must win, turn around a seven goal deficit on the other two and hope both Reading and Brighton lose).

You can see Reading's home match with Burnley and Brighton's trip to Forest live on Sky Sports 1 and 2 respectively. Coverage starts at  Midday.

    5/3/2014 9:51:16 AM
  • CHAMPIONSHIP DOWNS
At the other end of the table, Birmingham (43) are currently third from bottom, and, due to goal difference, will realistically need to win at Bolton to stand any chance of survival.

They'll also need Doncaster (44) to lose at Leicester, while Millwall (45) know victory at home to Bournemouth will seal their Championship status.

Those games kick off at 12.15pm.

Yeovil and Barnsley have already been relegated.
