  • [fulham] Club-record signing Kostas Mitroglou could return to the Fulham starting line-up as the Cottagers look to salvage some pride in their final Premier League game of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday. Fulham were relegated after a 4-1 defeat at Stoke last weekend and Mitroglou, who had been out with a knee injury since March 8, came off the bench at the Britannia. Long-term absentee Damien Duff has also been suffering from a knee problem and is ruled out.

  • [astonvilla] Aston Villa hope striker Gabriel Agbonlahor will be fit for Sunday's Premier League finale at TottenhamThe striker missed the midweek 4-0 defeat at Manchester City with a knee injury but boss Paul Lambert hopes he will be recovered in time for the trip to north London. Winger Marc Albrighton (groin) is a doubt for the match while the likes of Jores Okore, Christian Benteke and Libor Kozak are still absent with long-term injuries.
    5/9/2014 3:20:21 PM
  • [westham] West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has a fully-fit squad to choose from as the Hammers take on title hopefuls Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday. Only a West Ham victory at the Etihad Stadium will give hope to fellow challengers Liverpool, who need also to beat Newcastle at home to be crowned champions. The Hammers secured a 2-0 win against Tottenham last weekend and are 12th in the table.
    5/9/2014 3:22:54 PM

Morgan Amalfitano could figure after being rested in the midweek loss at Sunderland, but Billy Jones and Zoltan Gera (both hamstring) and Steven Reid (groin) are definitely out.

  • [football] Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore admits he does not want to see a break-up of the current Football League structure.
    5/9/2014 3:29:20 PM
  • [cardiff] Cardiff will be without Juan Cala for Sunday's Premier League appointment with Chelsea after the defender was handed a three-match suspension. The Spaniard was sent off in the Bluebirds' 4-0 defeat at Sunderland last month for denying Connor Wickham a goalscoring opportunity, but this punishment related to his conduct as he left the field and made his way to the players' tunnel. With Cardiff relegated following last Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Newcastle, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to make changes as the Welsh club target a winning send-off on home soil before returning to the Championship next term.
    5/9/2014 3:31:25 PM
  • [sunderland] Midfielder Lee Cattermole is a slight doubt for Sunderland's season-ending Premier League fixture at home to Swansea on Sunday. Cattermole turned an ankle during Wednesday night's 2-0 victory over West Brom, which secured the club's top-flight status, and will be assessed on Saturday. Manager Gus Poyet has hinted he will make changes, with several of his players suffering the after-effects of a remarkable survival mission, but goalkeeper Keiren Westwood (shoulder) and striker Steven Fletcher (ankle) remain on the sidelines and loan signing Ki Sung-yueng and full-back Andrea Dossena have left the club.
    Lee Cattermole: Doubtful for Sunderland

    5/9/2014 3:35:10 PM

    5/9/2014 3:37:49 PM
  • [crystalpalace] Crystal Palace boss Tony Pulis has a fully-fit squad to select from as the Eagles round off their Premier League campaign at Fulham on Sunday. Striker Cameron Jerome was unavailable for the 3-3 draw against Liverpool at Selhurst Park on Monday due to illness, but has since returned to training and is in contention to face the Cottagers. Midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi returned from a knock in Monday night's game and suffered no adverse reaction, playing 85 minutes before being replaced by Tom Ince.
    5/9/2014 3:42:09 PM
  • [newcastle] Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse could need four months in which to recover after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured kneecap. The Senegal international, who suffered the injury during a 2-1 Premier League defeat by Swansea on April 19, will miss Sunday's final day trip to Liverpool as a result. Manager Alan Pardew was otherwise coy about his fitness concerns, although utility man Ryan Taylor is back in light training after a second bout of knee surgery.
Papiss Cisse: Out for months with a knee problem

    5/9/2014 3:49:07 PM

  • Those Football League play-offs continue tonight in Wigan, with QPR the visitors. If you've a keen eye on the two-legged tussles, have a listen to Sky Sports News Radio's FL72 Weekly play-off special - where Brighton's Craig Mackail-Smith has been running the rule over each and every contest... • [bn]Here's some breaking news that will cheer Arsenal fans: defender Laurent Koscielny has signed a new "long-term" deal. More soon...
    5/9/2014 4:07:40 PM
  • So Koscielny follows the likes of Santi Cazorla, Per Mertesacker and Aaron Ramsey in committing this season to the club and Arsene Wenger's told the Gunners' website he's thrilled to have secure the extended services of a man who's helped the team to 15 clean sheets this term: [arsenal]
Laurent has proven himself to be an outstanding player since joining us in 2010 and has showed his quality once again this season. I am delighted he has decided to commit his future to the club.
    5/9/2014 4:16:38 PM
  • Here's a word from the man himself: [arsenal]
I am very proud to have reached agreement with the club on a new contract. I have enjoyed four great years at Arsenal already, and I look forward to continuing to help the team in the years to come.
    5/9/2014 4:17:43 PM
  • The final piece in our Premier League team news jigsaw comes from doomed Norwich, who look set to be without on-loan defender Joseph Yobo (calf) for Sunday's curtain-closer at Arsenal. Winger Anthony Pilkington (hip) is also sidelined, as is midfielder David Fox (knee). That big win for Sunderland in midweek, remember, effectively relegated the Canaries. They'd need to win, hope West Brom lose - and manage a 17-goal swing in the process... [norwich]
    5/9/2014 4:25:11 PM
  • Norwich opted for the high-risk strategy early last month when they sacked Chris Hughton and replaced him with Neil Adams with just five games to go. Adams always knew a menacing final run of fixtures could prove the Canaries' undoing but he's told us he has no regrets about taking the top job. [norwich]
    5/9/2014 4:29:38 PM
  • [liverpool]Over to Liverpool because though the Reds look set to fall short in their title bid this Sunday, boss Brendan Rodgers has given his players a hearty back-slap for putting the club "back on the world map".
I want to congratulate my players - I think we've had a remarkable season. They've put Liverpool on the world map again. Come Sunday we will fight right to the very end. If we end up not winning the title, I think to finish second to the richest team in the history of sport really shows the progress we have made. I think this is really only the beginning. I've had two years here and we have been progressing. This year we have made a step. I see and hear that other teams will improve, but I think we will improve dramatically as well next season.
    5/9/2014 4:45:43 PM
  • [supersunday]Here's a reminder of how you can see the Premier League season finally reach its climax on Sunday...
    5/9/2014 4:47:24 PM
  • [qpr]QPR have pressing matters of their own tonight and, look, they've made it to Wigan, where the sun is shining. Can Harry Redknapp's side do a Derby and take a lead back to their own place? Coverage of tonight's play-off semi-final first leg is live on Sky Sports 1 from 7.30pm but we'll have live updates right here in this blog. Team news should be with us in 45 minutes or so.
    5/9/2014 4:54:09 PM
  • [wigan]Here's what we do know in terms of team selection tonight: Uwe Rosler has told us he'll have a "good pool" to choose from, though he's been coy about the identities of a coupe carrying knocks. Ali Al Habsi should return in goal, though, ahead of second-choice stopper Scott Carson. There'll be no Benoit Assou-Ekotto for QPR tonight - he's back at Tottenham for treatment on a knee injury - so Yun Suk-Young could continue at left-back. Ravel Morrison, Joey Barton and Richard Dunne should all return after they were rested against Barnsley on Saturday.
    5/9/2014 4:58:01 PM
  • [qpr]If you were hoping for some pre-match soundbites from Joey Barton, you're out of luck... will he be able to contain himself if he curls in a last-minute free-kick tonight? I guess we'll see.

    5/9/2014 5:01:28 PM
  • Plenty more build-up to tonight's DW Stadium clash on the way but it's time for the final Weekend Warm-Up of the season and look who's dropped into the Sky Cafe for a chat with Tom White?

    5/9/2014 5:04:53 PM
  • [crystalpalace]Let's start by asking Tom Ince about that breathless Crystal Palace comeback against Liverpool that left Luis Suarez in tears...
It was a crazy game. The shock was that Liverpool were only 3-0 up - they played some unbelievable stuff in the first half but then a goal from Damian Delaney that he hasn't stopped talking about all week and wight Gayle comes off the bench with two great finishes and it raises the roof - the fans really were the 12th man. It was like we'd won the league ourselves.
    5/9/2014 5:10:13 PM
  • [crystalpalace]Ince signed for Liverpool in 2008 as a youth player and admitted he's tried to console Steven Gerrard after that result at Selhurst Park - one that handed the title momentum back to Manchester City.
There was a moment when I went up to Stevie G. More than anyone, it's hurt him massively. Liverpool are the team that, based on performances over the season, deserve to win the title. But that's what the Premier League brings. They'll have to focus on beating Newcastle and hope for a City slip-up.
    5/9/2014 5:15:50 PM
  • Sky Sports News Radio grabbed a word with Tom Ince a little earlier after those plans to overhaul English football were revealed by FA chairman Greg Dyke. Should there be changes to the loan system? Ince says the current set-up's worked pretty well for him...
    5/9/2014 5:18:23 PM
  • [westbrom]We'll hear Ince's team-mate Julian Speroni, as well as Arsenal's Mesut Ozil, a little later but first, let's chat to Ben Foster. West Brom could stay up on goal difference alone if they lose to Stoke and Norwich beat Arsenal and Foster admits it's been a pretty miserable season.
It’s new for us (a relegation fight) - it’s obviously been a very difficult season for us. I don’t think anybody in the camp can say they have enjoyed it but the main thing is that we have maintained that Premier League status, albeit scrappily and not very pretty at times. Now we need to finish on a high and give the fans something to smile about.
    5/9/2014 5:25:09 PM
  • [westbrom]What did Foster make of Steve Clarke's sacking? And how does he rate new boss Pepe Mel?
It was a bit of a shock (Clarke leaving) - I don’t think anybody really expected it - but the chairman obviously thought we were not heading in the right direction and that’s his prerogative. The main thing is we have stayed in the Premier League and that is all that matters. Whoever we had brought in after Steve Clarke, if they could have guaranteed us Premier League survival, then all of us would have taken it. The fact that (Pepe Mel) is a Spanish manager makes no difference to the lads, he can get his message across pretty good.
    5/9/2014 5:27:06 PM
  • [westbrom]Roy Hodgson will name his preliminary England squad on Monday and though Foster's desperate to be on the plane to Brazil, he's no qualms with Joe Hart's status as top dog...
There are a few of us vying for that spot so we don’t count our chickens. It’s a honour to be involved - I've never been involved in a major tournament. If I get the call I am really going to be looking forward to it. I think Joe Hart should be No 1, god forbid he doesn’t get injured. He is a fantastic goalkeeper and we are lucky to have someone like him as well. The media love to get carried away when an English keeper makes a mistake but I think Joe's class is there for everyone to see.
    5/9/2014 5:31:42 PM
  • [qpr]Team news from the DW Stadium is imminent so let's grab a quick word from former QPR striker Kevin Gallen on how he sees tonight's semi-final first leg going...

You'd think on paper that QPR would be the favourites and they finished above Wigan in the league but Wigan have really come on under Uwe Rosler.
I think it's going to be a tight game; QPR will try to dominate possession and take it back to Loftus Road but I expect Wigan to come out all guns blazing. Whoever scores the first goal, I fancy to win the game.

    5/9/2014 5:55:47 PM
  • Let's head back to Weekend Warm-Up because we sat down for a chat with Mesut Ozil, who's pretty content with life in the Premier League. The clue's in the subtitle... [arsenal]

    5/9/2014 6:03:25 PM
  • [arsenal]Here's more from Arsenal's record signing, Mesut Ozil - a man tipped by manager Arsene Wenger to shine next term after some concerns over his form and fitness:
It was definitely the right decision to join Arsenal. I am enjoying my life in London - my family is able to visit me as often as possible - but also on the pitch - my teammates are helping me as much as possible. I made the right decision. We had a very successful season. We could have done better - but we lost some important players due to injuries. We qualified for the Champions League and we made it to the FA Cup final. Arsenal has not won a title in the last 10 years and our target is to end that negative run.
    5/9/2014 6:08:35 PM
  • [stoke]We'll fix both eyes on play-off matters very soon but first, a couple of snippets from two Premier League goalkeepers with a string of admirers. Stoke's Asmir Begovic will turn his attention to Bosnia's first World Cup after Sunday's finale against West Brom - and it's the chance to play on the international stage, not rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United, that's on his mind:
It’s a good place to be, an exciting place to be. We are trying to push forward. I have two years left on my contract and I am committed to the cause and am very settled where I am. I have big things coming up in the summer so I haven’t really thought to much about the future. It’s very flattering to hear big clubs and great names in the game talk and say nice things about you but I just try to do my best for Stoke. The World Cup is a big shop window for everyone but the most important thing is to do yourself proud and do your country proud.

  • [crystalpalace]Julian Speroni played a blinder against Liverpool on Monday - but will he be at Selhurst Park next season?
The fans have been amazing, they have given me an incredible 10 years and I want to thank them for all the love they gave me. This year has been a dream – staying in the Premier League was our target. It was an emotional night against Liverpool; I thought this could be my last night, and hopefully not, but if it was, I wanted to say thank you and goodbye. I know the club want me to stay and I want to stay, which is great but we haven’t spoken yet and we need to sit down. It’s normal that clubs are going to sniff around but I was always very clear what I wanted to do – that I wanted to stay at this football club and that hasn’t changed.
    5/9/2014 6:31:04 PM
  • Right, down to play-off business. Harry's about to get a taste of them for the first time as a manager...

    5/9/2014 6:33:16 PM
  • Here's a reminder of last night's result at the Amex - and the Championship schedule in store...

    5/9/2014 6:34:35 PM
  • PRE-MATCH OMENS [stats]
Opta have done it again - here are a few pre-match nuggets if stats are your thing:
    • Wigan have won only one of their previous six league encounters with QPR on home soil, drawing four (L1).
    • After going 11 league games unbeaten on home soil between December and April (W7 D4), the Latics have lost two of their last three there (W1).
    • The R’s have gone eight games without keeping a clean sheet, conceding twice in four of those matches.
    • Charlie Austin has scored in three successive appearances for QPR.
    • No Championship side has conceded more goals from corners this season than Queens Park Rangers (11).
    • No player has created more chances for Wigan this season than Jordi Gomez (52).
    5/9/2014 6:36:49 PM
We'll hear from Uwe Rosler, a man who suffered defeat in the play-off final with Brentford 12 months ago, ahead of kick-off in just a moment but here's what he had to say on Harry Redknapp's assertion his side were the favourites for this one:
When Harry says we are the clear favourites for promotion then I have to smile a little bit about that one. Harry said we have the best squad - I think we have a very good squad - but Harry has probably three times a bigger wage budget than we have. I like pressure, it gets the best out of me in that scenario and the players are used to that. Wigan Athletic, historically, have been under pressure so I really believe that we can raise our standards again.
